Donald Trump has suggested that the U.S. should take back control of the Panama Canal, which Panama has owned since 1999. He believes Panama is charging the U.S. too much to use the canal and has raised concerns about China gaining more influence in the area. However, Panama strongly disagrees, saying that the canal belongs to Panama and denying that China has any control over it. The Panama Canal was built by the U.S. in the early 1900s to help ships travel more easily between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Before the canal, ships had to go all the way around South America, which took months. The U.S. controlled the canal and surrounding area for many years, but by 1977, President Jimmy Carter signed a formal written agreement to give Panama control over the canal. The agreement said that both the U.S. and Panama would share control until 1999, when Panama would take full control.
By the time Panama took full control in 1999, tensions between the U.S. and Panama had been high for years, with many disagreements about how the canal should be managed. In the 1980s, the U.S. even attacked Panama to remove a leader named Manuel Noriega.
Since Panama gained full control of the canal, shipping through it has grown, but the canal has faced challenges like droughts, which have lowered water levels and affected its ability to function. To manage this, Panama has raised fees for ships using the canal, which Trump has criticized as too high.
Although Trump’s comments have upset some people, Panama remains firm that the canal belongs to them and that it is neutral (中立) and open to all countries. Trump has also mentioned other ideas, like making Canada the 51st U.S. state or buying Greenland, but these ideas have been rejected by the other countries involved.
24. Which of these statements is NOT true?
A. China used to control the Panama Canal.
B. The U.S. used to control the Panama Canal.
C. Panama gained full control of the canal in 1999.
D. US and Panama shared control of the canal until 1999
25. What is the current situation with the Panama Canal?
A. The U.S. controls it again. B. Panama controls the canal, and shipping has increased.
C. The canal is closed due to drought. D. China controls the canal.
26. What do we know about Panama’s relationship with the U.S. regarding the canal?
A. It has been marked by tensions and conflicts.
B. It has been mostly peaceful, with few disagreements.
C. The U.S. completely trusts Panama to manage the canal.
D. Panama is eager to give control of the canal back to the U.S.
27. What is the main idea of the article?
A. Panama’s economy depends entirely on the Panama Canal.
B. The U.S. built the Panama Canal to help ships avoid long journeys.
C. The Panama Canal is a valuable resource for both Panama and the U.S.
D. Donald Trump wants to take control of the Panama Canal back from Panama.

In the past few decades, the way people access information has undergone a dramatic transformation, shifting from traditional media to digital platforms. Traditional media, which includes newspapers, television, and radio, has long been the basis of public communication. These forms of media are characterized by their one-way communication model, where information is delivered to a passive audience without immediate interaction. In contrast, digital media—including social media, blogs, and online news websites—operates on a dynamic, interactive framework that allows users to engage, comment, and share content in real time.
Despite their differences, both traditional and digital media share the fundamental goal of spreading information to the public. Each serves as a tool for education, entertainment, and monitoring of the environment. Moreover, both forms are influenced by economic factors—relying on advertising income and audience engagement—and must stick to ethical standards, although the carrying out of these standards varies significantly between the two.
However, the differences between these media forms are obvious. Traditional media typically offers slower, more selected content produced by professionals, often ensuring higher accuracy but lacking immediacy. Digital media, on the other hand, provides instant updates and a variety of perspectives at the cost of occasional unreliability. One critical distinction lies in accessibility: traditional media is often limited by geographic and temporal restrictions, while digital media is globally accessible anytime, promoting a more interconnected world. Additionally, digital platforms allow users to become content creators themselves, making them difficult to see the line between producers and consumers.
Looking ahead, the future undoubtedly belongs to digital media. With the rapid advancement of technology and increasing internet penetration (渗透) worldwide, digital platforms are becoming the primary source of information for younger generations. Although traditional media will not disappear entirely, its role will likely reduce to that of a supplementary source, valued for its depth and credibility. As artificial intelligence and big data continue to evolve, digital media will further personalize user experiences and dominate the landscape of communication. Ultimately, this shift indicates not just a change in how we consume information, but a transformation in how we connect with the world around us.
28. What is a key characteristic of digital media according to the passage?
A. It allows real-time interaction and engagement.
B. It relies only on professional content producers.
C. It is limited by geographic and temporal restrictions.
D. It delivers information through a one-way communication model.
29. What is the main purpose of the second paragraph?
A. To predict the future development of digital media.
B. To discuss the economic models of both media types.
C. To emphasize the differences between the two media forms.
D. To highlight the shared goals and characteristics of both media.
30. Which of the following would be the most suitable title for the passage?
A. The Economic Challenges of Traditional Media
B. The Media Revolution: From Traditional to Digital
C. The Disadvantages of Digital Platforms
D. How to Become a Content Creator
31. What can be inferred about traditional media from the passage?
A. It will completely disappear within the next decade.
B. It will maintain its dominant position in information dissemination.
C. It may continue to exist but in a more specialized role.
D. It will merge completely with digital media and lose its identity.
D
The term “multitasking” originally referred to a computer’s ability to carry out several tasks at one time. For many people, multitasking has become a way of life and even a key to success. In fact, some excellent mental aerobic exercises involve engaging the brain in two or more challenging activities at a time. Although checking e-mail while talking on a phone and reading the newspaper may be second nature for some people, many times multitasking can make us less productive, rather than more. And studies show that too much multitasking can lead to increased stress, anxiety and memory loss.
In order to multitask, the brain uses an area known as the prefrontal cortex Brian scans of volunteers performing multiple tasks together show that as they shift from task to task, this front part of the brain actually takes a moment of rest between tasks. You may have experienced a prefrontal cortex “moment of rest” yourself if you’ve ever dialed (拨电话) a phone number and suddenly forgotten who you dialed when the line is answered. What probably occurred is that between the dialing and the answering, your mind shifted to anther thought or task, and then took that “moment” to come back. Research has also shown that for many volunteers, job efficiency declines while multitasking, as compared to when they perform only one task at a time.
Multitasking is easiest when at least one of the tasks is habitual, or requires little thought. Most people don’t find it difficult to eat and read the newspaper at the same time. However, when two or more attention-requiring tasks are attempted at one time, people sometimes make mistakes.
We often don’t remember things as well when we’re trying to manage several details at the same time. Without mental focus, we may not pay enough attention to new information coming in, so it never makes it into our memory stores. That is one of the main reasons we forget people’s names—even sometimes right after they have introduced themselves. Multitasking can also affect our relationships. If someone checks their e-mail while on the phone with a friend, they may come off as absent-minded or disinterested. It can also cause that person to miss or overlook key information being passed on to them.
32. Why are some mental aerobic exercises designed to engage people in multitasking?
A. To make them more productive. B. To reduce their stress and anxiety.
C. To develop their communication skills. D. To help them perform daily tasks more easily.
33. According to Paragraph 2, why may a person suddenly forget who has called?
A. He may leave his prefrontal cortex temporarily damaged.
B. He is probably interrupted by another task.
C. He is probably not very familiar with the person he has called.
D. He may need a rest between dialing and speaking.
34. People tend to make mistake when ________.
A. they perform several challenging tasks at a time B. new messages are processed one after another
C. their relationships with others are affected D. the tasks require little thought
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Multitasking has become a way of life. B. Multitasking often leads to efficiency decline.
C. Multitasking exercises need to be improved. D. Multitasking enables people to remember things better.

Tips for choosing photos or videos for social media
Choosing the right type of visual content is key to engaging your audience on social media. 36
You need to weigh the options carefully before deciding to choose between the two.
Consider the platform.
37 For instance, Instagram users often prefer high-quality photos, while YouTube is fundamentally a video-based platform where videos perform better. Additionally, it is crucial to consider the population composition of each platform’s user base, as different age groups and interests may respond differently to visual content.
Focus on your message.
Begin by clearly defining the core message you wish to communicate. Then, select the medium that can most effectively convey that message. 38 However, while a video is often better suited for demonstrating a process or providing educational content. Matching your format with your message ensures clearer communication and higher audience engagement.
Know your audience.
Understanding your target audience’s preferences and online behavior is key to choosing between photos and videos. For example, audiences interested in DIY projects might engage more with informative infographics (信息图形) or short tutorial videos. On the other hand, fans of video games often prefer in-depth, long-form video content or live streams. 39
Use a combination of the two.
It is also very possible that the best option for your business is to use both photo and video for social media. 40 If the message you are trying to send varies, the way it is presented should be chosen on a case-by-case basis.
A combination of media is a good option for businesses that have limited access to resources such as third-party professionals and equipment. In such cases, it may be most possible to base the type of media you are using for social media on what resources you have access to at the time. While it can be helpful to determine which option is more effective, it isn’t worth breaking the bank over.
A. Video media tends to take longer to produce than photos.
B. A simple photo might be perfect for a quick, daily update.
C. This may especially be the case if you offer a wide variety of content.
D. Both photos and videos have their own advantages and disadvantages.
E. Videos typically take more skill and resources to shoot and edit, compared to photos.
F. Tailoring your content format to your audience’s habits can significantly boost interaction.
G. The effectiveness of photos versus videos greatly depends on the social media platform you use.

Creative photography died when a camera lens (镜头) found its way onto a cell phone, and everyone in the world became a photographer. For over a hundred years, photography 56 (provide) a creative way for generations of artists to freeze the heights of human achievement. Photographers were the visual storytellers of the 20th Century. Today, visual art seems 57 (extend) no further than applying a filter (滤镜) to yet another “selfie”, shared on whichever social platform has achieved critical mass on the day.
In many ways, this decline began with the digital photography. Where before, catching a correctly exposed image required 58 (technique) knowledge, photographic skill and creative vision in equal measure, today, computers 59 (build) into every camera have assumed responsibility for 99% of all photographs taken in the digital age. Photographers have been reduced to 60 (point) the camera in the general direction of the subject and pressing a button. As 61 result of the rapid advancement of technology, anyone with even the most basic camera can now achieve results which was 62 (previous) the domain of the professional photographer.
Evidence of the end of authentic photography can be seen in the decline of the photojournalist. 63 once dedicated and skilled photographers would tell the story of world events through the photographs they captured, today, most newspapers have laid off their entire team of photographers, relying instead on photos supplied by their readers for free. Decades of photojournalistic traditions 64 (reduce) to something anyone with a cell phone can do. Henri Cartier-Bresson must be turning underground at the thought of 65 we have done to his noble art.

Before the shadow of illness fell upon them, the small world of Emily and her daughter Lily was filled with simple joys. Their tiny apartment, though old and poorly furnished, was always warm with laughter. Eight-year-old Lily was a bundle of energy, her dreams as vast as the sky. She would spend hours drawing pictures of ballerinas, turning around the living room, her joyful voice singing along to the radio. Emily, a single mother who worked as a cleaner, found all her strength in her daughter’s bright smile. They struggled financially, but their love made them feel wealthy.
This beautiful world collapsed when doctors diagnosed Lily with a rare and severe genetic disorder. The vibrant, dancing girl was now restricted to her bed, her small body growing weaker each day. The light in her eyes began to dim, replaced by a glassy look of pain and confusion. Simple actions like holding a cup or turning a page in her favorite storybook became impossible battles.
Emily watched this heartbreaking transformation, feeling a deep sense of helplessness. She spent her days caring for Lily and her nights searching for medical solutions online, but hope seemed to slip further away with each passing day.
The final blow came in the form of a phone call from the hospital. A highly specialized surgery abroad offered a chance—a small one—to stop the disease's progress. However, the cost was astronomical, a figure so large it seemed like a cruel joke. With all her savings exhausted and no family to turn to, Emily felt the walls closing in.
One evening, as Lily slept fitfully, Emily made a desperate decision. Sitting at the old kitchen table, she poured her heart out onto a crowdfunding website. She described Lily’s courage, their fight, and the overwhelming medical expenses. She uploaded a recent photo of Lily, pale but smiling bravely from her hospital bed. With a trembling hand, she clicked ‘Submit’. A wave of exhaustion and fragile hope washed over her. She whispered into the silence, “Please, let someone see this. Please.”

M: Well, she is at work at the moment. She doesn’t finish until 5. I’ll have to wait until tonight now, I suppose.

W: Hello, everyone. Welcome to our program. I’m Jenny Jackson. The weather here in Juárez has become unbearable. With no rains for over a year, the city is suffering from unusually hot weather. Some light showers have been forecast since last month, but all of them have been effective in surrounding areas. Summer has not even started yet, but temperatures have reached 40 degrees centigrade in the past three days. And people have been warned not to go out of their homes — not if you walk on foot, at least — between 11 in the morning and 7 in the evening. Little kids and the elderly are the ones who have suffered the most from this extreme heat wave. They must drink water all the time. To help our audience have a better understanding of this extreme weather, we have invited Prof. Torres from University of Mexico to our studio this evening.

根据第一段最后一句“The agreement said that both the U.S. and Panama would share control until 1999, when Panama would take full control”可知A、B、C选项均正确。
根据第三段首句“Since Panama gained full control of the canal, shipping through it has grown”可知,巴拿马控制运河且航运量增长。A(美国重新控制)、C(因干旱关闭)、D(中国控制)均与事实不符。
根据第二段“tensions between the U.S. and Panama had been high for years”及美国1980年代入侵巴拿马的历史可知,双方关系长期紧张且存在冲突。B(基本和平)、C(美国完全信任)、D(巴拿马渴望归还)均与原文相反。
A(巴拿马经济完全依赖运河)、B(美国建设运河的目的)和C(运河对两国都有价值)、均为细节,非全文焦点。

【答案】32.A 33.B 34.A 35.B
根据第一段的内容可知,作者提出:“In fact, some excellent mental aerobic exercises involve engaging the brain in two or more challenging activities at a time.”,之后用although引出转折,这种训练有时并不能productive。
主要根据“this front part of the brain actually takes a moment of rest between tasks”,可以推断出之后的“if you’ve ever dialed (拨电话) a phone number and suddenly forgotten who you dialed when the line is answered”的情况,所以选择B。
故选择A。
D 37. G 38. B 39. F 40. C
You need to weigh the options carefully"(需要仔细权衡选项)直接对应D选项中"have their own advantages and disadvantages"(各有优缺点),为总分逻辑关系。
37. 本段主题"Consider the platform"(考虑平台)与G选项中"depends on the social media platform"完全吻合,且后文Instagram和YouTube的举例正好支撑这一观点。
38. 前文讨论"select the medium"(选择媒介),后文用"however"转折提到视频的优势,B选项"a simple photo"与后文视频形成对比,且"quick, daily update"(快速日常更新)与后文"demonstrating a process"(展示过程)形成内容上的互补。
39. 本段主题"Know your audience"(了解受众),F选项中"Tailoring...to your audience's habits"(根据受众习惯定制)与此完美呼应,且"boost interaction"(提升互动)与前文engage more形成语义衔接。
40. 后文"If the message...varies"(如果信息多样)与C选项中"wide variety of content"(内容种类多样)直接对应,且"this may especially be the case"(这种情况尤其适用)很好地承接了前文使用两种形式的建议。

entire(整个的)最符合语境。所以选A。
所以选A。
后文提到“struggle to cope with our reactions(应对我们反应的挣扎)”,这种反应即是由所见所闻引发的“感受(feelings)”。所以选A。
“sit in a circle”意为“围坐成一圈”。 所以选D。
所以选A。
56. had provided 57. to extend 58. technical 59. built 60. pointing 61. a 62. previously 63. Where/ While 64. have been reduced 65. what
56. had provided
而“提供创意出口(provide a creative outlet)”这个状态持续了“ over a hundred years”,并且是在“died”这个过去时间点之前就已经完成和结束的状态。
57. to extend
解析: 动词“seem”的固定用法就是“seem to do something”。
58. technical
59. built
60. pointing
61. a
解析: 这是绝对固定的短语“as a result of...”(由于…… 没有“as result of”或“as the result of”的用法。
62. previously
解析: 空格需要修饰后面的整个名词短语“the domain of the professional photographer”,但更深一层看,它是修饰整个从句“was previously the domain...”,表示时间“以前、过去”。
63. While/ Where
(过去) 和 “today, most newspapers have laid off...”
64. have been reduced
65. what

I’m glad to hear about your interest in creating English learning videos! Both WeChat Channels and Douyin have their unique advantages.
WeChat Channels is great for reaching a more connected audience, like classmates and friends, since it’s integrated within WeChat. It’s ideal for educational content and longer videos. Douyin, on the other hand, has a broader user base and is perfect for short, engaging clips that can quickly attract viewers with trends and effects.
I’d recommend Douyin if you want to reach a wider audience and use creative tools. But if you prefer a more community-focused approach, WeChat Channels may be better.

Please.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Hours turned into days with no response.
It was from a stranger who wanted to donate a large amount of money.
Hours turned into days with no response. Emily’s hope began to fade like the evening light outside their window. Each day, she would check the donation page with trembling hands, her heart sinking at the unchanged total. The silence felt deafening, and in the quiet hospital room, she could hear only the steady beep of Lily’s monitor and her own worried breaths. Just as she was about to surrender to despair, her phone suddenly lit up with an email notification—a small sign of hope in the deepening darkness.
It was from a stranger who wanted to donate a large amount of money. The message came from a retired teacher living in a coastal town thousands of miles away. He explained how Lily’s story had reminded him of his own granddaughter, and how he believed every child deserved a chance to dream. With the transfer of the full amount, not only would the surgery be covered, but also the subsequent rehabilitation treatments. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Emily wept tears of relief as she held Lily’s hand, watching her daughter’s pale face gradually regain its hopeful glow.
