Reagan Bischoff, a girl with cerebral palsy(大脑性瘫痪), runs a video channel named Throw Leftie. Due to her condition, her left hand and foot are weak, making tasks like tying her hair, putting on earrings, tying shoelaces(鞋带), and cutting food quite difficult. Her mum always encourages her, saying, “Try first, and ask for help if needed.” Even when she fails and feels frustrated, she never stops trying.
Why did she start the channel? While learning to live independently, she discovered many creative ways to solve these problems. She realized that many others faced the same struggles, so she created Throw Leftie to share her ideas. Through her videos, viewers can learn how to adjust (调整) tools or change daily routines to make life easier.
In the sport of lacrosse, coaches used to yell “Throw leftie!”. But because her left hand couldn’t work well, she became a goalkeeper instead. This allowed her to enjoy the sport without overusing her weak hand—a clever solution.

It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty and he always went down to help him carry fishing tools.
The old man was thin with deep wrinkles(皱纹) in the back of his neck. His hands had the deep scars(疤) from dealing with heavy fish. But none of these scars were fresh.
Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same colour as the sea and were cheerful and full of confidence.
“Santiago,” the boy said to him as they climbed from the bank where the boat was pulled up. “I could go with you again. We’ve made some money.”
The old man had taught the boy to fish and the boy loved him. “No,” the old man said. “You’re with a lucky boat. Stay with them.”
“But remember how you went eighty-seven days without fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks.”

What is a hurricane(飓风)?
You may already know that hurricanes are storms that can cause devastating(毁灭性的) waves, wind, and rain. They happen during the hurricane season, which is from June 1st to November 30th in the Atlantic Ocean and from May 15th to November 30th in the Pacific Ocean.
Categories of hurricanes
There are five categories of hurricanes, which are based on wind speeds. The categories help people know how much damage(危害) a hurricane may cause because the greater the wind speed, the more dangerous the storm. For example, a Category 5 hurricane has winds over 157 miles per hour, which are strong enough to destroy the buildings along the shoreline completely.
Danger of hurricanes
When a hurricane happens together with heavy rainfall, there can be a devastating flood. The centre of a hurricane is called the eye. The eye is actually a calm area in the storm. When the eye of a hurricane passes over land, people might think that it’s over, but before long the wind and rain increase again as the second part of the hurricane moves through.
Safety tips on hurricanes
There is no way to stop a hurricane or make it change direction, so if you ever find yourself in the path of a hurricane, be sure to remember the following safety tips.
• Be sure you have a radio, batteries, fresh drinking water, and enough food.
• Tell neighbours, friends, and family members your emergency plans. Tell them where you’ll go if you need to leave your home.
• If you live near the ocean, leave your home and travel to a safe place. You could stay with a friend or a family member in a hotel or in an emergency shelter area.

But after forty days without a fish, the boy’s parents had told him that the old man was now exactly and finally salao, which is the worst form of bad luck, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week.
“I remember,” the old man said. “I know you did not leave me willingly.”
“It was Papa who made me leave. I am a boy and I must listen to him.”
“I know,” the old man said. “I quite understand that.”
“He doesn’t have much faith(信念).”

“Yes,” the boy said. “Can I offer you a beer on the terrace and then we’ll take the fishing tools home?”
“Why not?” the old man said. “Between fishermen.”

• Stay inside during the storm. You could be seriously injured(受伤) if you go outside.
