Passage A
(2025.1・广东春季高考)I worked as a journalist and I was lucky to have an interview with Ezra Pryme, the famous English eccentric (怪人). I say "lucky", because Ezra Pryme doesn't have much time for humans and he almost has no visitors. He is very rich and he has a very big country house with a large garden. He has got a large family, but he never sees any of his children or his grandchildren. "I haven't got any time for them," he says. He has the largest collection of Art Deco objects in the world, but he is the only one who ever sees them.
I knocked at the door of the house at exactly 3 p.m.. Ezra's servant opened the door for me. I was led through a large hall where all sorts of paintings are on the walls and then into a library. I waited for a while and at last a very short man appeared. As soon as he saw me, he held out his hand. Not expecting this, I hesitated for a moment. "You can shake hands," he said. Passage B
(2023.1・广东春季高考)Anger is a natural feeling that everyone experiences in life. Some researchers believe the first sound a baby makes when born could be a sign of anger. Anger may be the first feeling we have and respond to. It’s in many cases a perfectly healthy feeling. Anger can cause people to make very positive changes in their lives. Sometimes we have to be angry at injustice (不公正), at wrong doings, or even at nature, before we can do what needs to be done to correct wrongs or make things better. But of course, that is not how we usually think of anger.
Most people think of anger as a feeling we must keep under control. Children are sometimes sent to their rooms or punished for expressing anger in an uncontrolled way. Parents tell a child to control himself when the child shows anger. We may be angry with friends or at work, but we know it’s not right to show it. Very early in life, we learn that anger is something that must be controlled.
We learn this for a good reason. Uncontrolled anger can lead to fights, car accidents, bad relationships with others, unacceptable social behavior, and many other problems. However, many experts say that if one suppresses his anger, he may suffer serious mental and physical health problems. So what can we do to understand and calm this feeling?
One solution is to talk about it with someone we trust, for example, a good friend. We can also try to walk away from a situation that causes anger, ask a doctor for advice, or just exercise more in our daily life. And of course we may have many other methods. Whatever solution we choose, as long as we are trying to find the solution to the problem, we have already taken the first step in the right direction.

4. Which of the following can help deal with anger?
A. Excellent physical health.
B. A talk with a close friend.
C. Some exercises given by teachers.
D. A good relationship with others.

But at the beginning, these reforms were not easily carried out. Only a few people in the state understood Shang’s talent and the advantages of his plans. Most people had little trust and confidence in him.
To solve this problem, Shang came up with an idea. He ordered some soldiers to put a thin wooden pole at the south gate of the Qin state capital. This attracted many people. Then, in front of the crowd, he said loudly, “People of Qin, whoever takes this pole to the north gate will get a reward of 10 gold pieces.”
It was a simple task and the reward was big. Some people passed and no one stepped forward. They all thought that Shang was joking. Hearing no answer, Shang stepped forward and said, “I will increase the reward to 50 gold pieces.”
The words sounded even more unbelievable. Finally, a man from the crowd came forward to take the pole. He put the pole on his shoulders and walked to the north gate. True to his word, Shang paid the man 50 gold pieces.
Soon, the people were saying that Shang was a man of his word. When he began promoting (推行) his reforms, the people followed and did not question him.

You know, the northern part of China was so cold in winter that doors were all clothed with frost (霜). Xiaoqiang once cane to my house and said that was sugar. I corrected him saying that was frost. But he insisted. I gave up and said, “Sugar is sweet. Go and taste.” He really did that. But his tongue was stuck (粘) to the door. It was my mom helped him out with warm water. For this I was beaten by my dad.
The other interesting thing happened when we were in Grade 7. After they moved to my hometown, we almost did everything together, began our primary school, entered the same middle school and we have been classmates for nearly nine years. For some time, we hated going to school and tried to make all excuses just to skip My classroom was on the second floor, not very high. One day, we tried to jump out through the windows when the teacher turned to the blackboard to write. I did it with two other close friends, of course including him. I made it first. I did it. So was the next one. When he started to move, the teacher was making sound. He was so afraid, he didn’t jump right. He was hung by the window on his clothes. Passage 1
Cities around the world are racing to become “smart”. It’s just like a classroom full of hard-working students. Take Toronto, Canada, for example. Tech company Google has made public a 1,500-page plan. It is going to remake two neighborhoods with things like snow-melting roads.
To build smart cities, we need lots of new technologies, such as robots and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies will lead to safer and more efficient (效率高的) cities. However, they will also raise questions about privacy.
But there is a more serious problem: Smart cities will be difficult to manage.
As we know, tech products are sometimes unreliable The Internet and our computers break down regularly. Tech products also age quickly. Only a few years into their lives, problems may become commoner and commoner.
In smart cities, many basic systems and services, such as water services, are based on such tech products. What if they break down regularly? Can you imagine the result?
New technologies in 2020 will be outdated before 2025. If we use smart technologies widely in cities, we will need to be prepared to replace them every few years. But who would want to pay this bill?
The most important problem is whether having a smart city will make us better at solving urban problems. Smart technologies can’t solve problems on their own. Suppose AI programs discover a road that needs to be repaired. It still requires people to show up with asphalt (沥青) and a steamroller (蒸汽压路机), doesn’t it?
As an engineer, I think smart technologies should have a place in cities. However, that place is not everywhere. For many of our urban problems, we don’t really need the latest technologies. The best of the old ideas works better.

B.it is difficult and expensive to manage a smart city
C.smart technologies can’t solve problems on their own
D.many new technologies become outdated within five years
Passage 2
Many people say that when they use weighted quilts (被子), they have better sleep, lower stress and anxiety, and are more relaxed than using a light one.
But there aren’t many studies to show the benefits of lying under a weighted quilt. Recently, researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden did a study to find out whether using a weighted quilt can actually help sleep.
Twenty-six young, healthy adults took part in the study. In one stage, they were covered with a weighted quilt (weighing about 12% of their body weight) for one hour before bedtime, then they had an eight-hour sleep. Researchers collected their saliva samples (唾液样本) during the pre-sleep hour to record changes in melatonin (褪黑素) and other hormone concentrations (激素浓度). In the next stage, participants (参与者) were covered with a light quilt (2.4% of their body weight) for the night.
They found that when participants laid under a weighted quilt for an hour before bedtime, they showed a 32% increase in salivary melatonin concentration
Melatonin plays a big role in body’s sleep-wake cycle. The body produces melatonin at night, and there are a few ways to get melatonin from other sources—certain foods (like cherries and milk) or melatonin supplements (补充剂).

A.About 1.5 kg. B.About 3.5 kg. C.About 7.5 kg. D.About 12.5 kg.
4. What can you infer (推断) from paragraph 5?
A.Drinking milk can help people sleep well.
B.The body can not produce melatonin itself.
C.Melatonin can hardly influence one’s sleep.
D.Melatonin supplements can be used every night.
5. Which is the best title for the passage?

Passage 3
Do dragons exist today? Although often mistaken for a mythical(神话的)creature, we actually live among several different types of “dragons.” For example, you may have seen dragonfly flying over a summer garden or read about a Komodo dragon lizard. The ocean has its share of dragons, too.
The blue dragon is a marine(海洋的)snail without a shell. It is commonly known as a blue sea slug(海参). This particular species of marine snail can swallow a bubble of air(which it holds in its stomach)that enables it to float upside down on the surface of the ocean. The underside of the slug is blue, and it back is a gray color. This helps to conceal it from birds flying overhead and from fish swimming below.
Blue dragons feed on poisonous jellyfish and other similar species. When food is in short supply, they will eat each other. They collect toxins(毒素)from the jellyfish and store it in many finger-like structures. This ability to store poison gives them a much stronger sting(刺)than the jellyfish itself. They use this poison as a defense against enemies. The sting can also be felt by people.
These creatures are rarely visible for study and observation except for when they come close to land during times of onshore winds. They have been seen in Hawaii and in tropical(热带)waters around the world. Beware(当心)of the blue dragon’s sting!

Passage 4
Walk or drive to work? Which way is lower in carbon (碳)? To be friendly to the environment, you may choose to walk. Have you ever tried to live a low-carbon life through your diet
A new study from the University of Oxford has looked into the health and environmental influences of 15 foods common in western diets. Among these, plant based (基于植物的) foods included fruits, vegetables, nuts and potatoes. It also studied animal-based foods, including red meat, chicken, milk products, eggs and fish.
According to the study’s lead researcher, Michael Clark, “Choosing better and greener diets is one of the main ways people can improve their health and protect the environment.” That is to say, plant-based diets are much healthier for us and kinder to the environment.
To get this result, researchers compared the influence of eating another portion (一份) of each food with the increased risk of a few illnesses. They also found out the environmental harm for each animal-based food and each plant-based food.
By using this method, the study found that red meats were the most unfriendly foods to the environment. Keeping farm animals produces a large number of methane (甲烷) that keeps 30 times more heat than CO2. As well as making the earth warmer, eating too much red meat is known to increase the risk of a few illnesses, such as heart trouble.
Plant-based diets can give us the same health benefits in a much greener way. According to the study, without eating or using meat and milk products, global farmland use could be cut down by more than 75% and still feed the world.
Speaking to the Guardian (英国卫报), Tim Benton of Chatham House (英国皇家国际事务研究所) said, “If we can give people reasonable official (官方的) advice of what a healthy and green diet is, the world and its people would be in a much better place.”
1. Which one is animal-based food?
A.Milk products. B.Fruits. C.Potatoes. D.Vegetables.

Passage 5
The sun sets on a field in southern England. When it rises again the following morning, that field has been changed into a huge work of art. A large part of the crop (庄稼) has been pressed into a pattern of circles, squares and other shapes.
Farmers have reported finding strange circles in their fields for centuries. The earliest mention of a crop circle dates back to the 1500s. Crop circles, however, didn’t get attention until 1980, when a farmer in England discovered three circles in his field. The world first began to learn about crop circles.
By the 1990s, crop circles had become something of a tourist attraction. In 1990 alone, more than 500 circles appeared in Europe. Within the next few years, there were thousands.
Crop circles can come in many different shapes, changing in size. Most early crop circles were simple. But after 1990, the circles changed. Crops can be made to look like just about anything — smiling faces, flowers or even words.
People have long been wondering who or what is creating these crop circles. Possibly the most widely known idea is that crop circles are the work of visitors from other planets.
Probably the most scientific opinion says that crop circles are created by vortices (涡旋). They force the air down to the ground, which presses the crops down. Dr. Terence Meaden, an expert, says when the dust (沙尘) gets caught up in a vortex, it can appear to glow (发光), which may explain the UFO-like glowing lights many people have seen.

Passage 6
On March 3, 2022, the 2021 Touching China Award ceremony aired on CCTV. Ten role models were on the list, and Yang Zhenning is one of them. When mentioning the greatest theoretical (理论的) physicists in the world, Yang Zhenning is a name never to be forgotten.
Yang Zhenning, a famous Nobel Prize-winning physicist, became the first Chinese- American scientist who managed to return to China after the US just lifted (解除) the ban (禁令) on visits to China in 1971. Yang also helped hundreds of Chinese students to have a further study in the US. These people later made a huge construction (贡献) for China.
Yang was born in 1922, in Hefei Anhui, China, and grew up in Tsinghua University. From a young age he had an interest in physics. At the age of 12, Yang showed his great goal to win a Nobel Prize after being attracted by a book about the unknowns of the universe.
With this goal in mind, Yang studied hard. After getting a master’s degree in Tsinghua University in 1944, Yang got the chance to further his studies in the United States. There he met another Chinese student, Tsung-dao Lee (李政道), who shared the same interests, and they often discussed the physics problems together. In 1957, they won the Nobel Prize in Physics. It let other Chinese people know that Chinese scientists could stand out in the global science community.
At the Nobel Banquet (宴会),Yang also expressed his pride. He was very proud of his Chinese background. No matter where he has been, Yang Zhenning has always had his motherland in mind.
In 2003, Yang returned to China and also taught at Tsinghua. Under his influence, many overseas Chinese also returned to China to make contributions, such as Turing Award winner Yao Qizhi, physicist Wu Xiaogang, and mathematician Zhang Shouwu.

Passage 7
Mictobes (微生物) help us do lots of things here on Earth. They can make bread rise and cure infections (感染), among many other things. Researchers have done lots of experiments with microbes in space and their latest findings show that these microbes could help us explore (探究) more of our universe.
Last summer, the European Space Agency did an experiment called BioRock on the International Space Station. In this experiment, three species of bacteria (细菌) were tested on their ability to pull rare (稀有的) earth elements (REEs) out of rocks in three types of gravity (重力) — normal Earth gravity, Mars gravity and microgravity.
This method of using microbes to pull out “biomining”. We’ve been doing it for some time here on Earth, mainly to pull out copper (铜) and gold. But would it work in space or on another planet?
The results were encouraging. Of the three species, one was able to pull 14 types of REEs out of rocks in all three types of graviy. The rocks used in the experiment were mede of basalt (玄武岩) — a type of rock that is commonly found on Earth, Mars and the moon.
While the findings might be interesting on their own, how can they help us explore space? For one thing, space exploration in the future will require us to find resources on the moon and Mars that we can use to continue our exploration efforts. Biomining can help us do this cheaply and easily.

Passage 8
Do you compare yourself to other people? Perhaps your best friend receives something you really want, or you’re not allowed to go to a concert but your brother or sister is. Even though comparisons are common and can sometimes be beneficial, focusing (专注) on your own progress is important for your happiness.
“We often compare ourselves to others who are doing better or not as well as ourselves.” says Dr. Jack. “But I suggest comparing yourself to your past self and your future self. This can make you feel proud of what you’ve achieved and excited about what you might do. Focusing on your own purposes is more worthwhile than always trying to come out on top.”
Comparing yourself to those around you is natural. It can help us to be clear about our achievements and to form friendships with people having similar interests. However, nobody is perfect in real life. It’s also important to realize how the comparison is making you feel. “If you begin to feel quite low, focus on your own strengths.” says Jack. In other words, you can ask yourself questions like “What can I do well in?”, which can help you trust yourself.
Maybe here you are wondering “What if all my friends are better than me?”. Dr. White says that jealousy (妒忌) is not bad but focusing on bettering your own work can help you feel just as successful. He also mentions that learning to celebrate your friends’ success can not only help to cheer your friends up but also help you feel good. It will encourage you to build each other up.

Passage 4
With a thirst for a new challenge, I decided to begin my language journey and my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier. Since starting to learn, I have made good progress. The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is a test of Chinese language for non-native speakers. In July 2020, I passed my HSK3 exam with a score of 100 percent. I am now almost ready to start HSK5.
Learning to speak Chinese isn’t as insurmountable as I once thought. When I speak to native (当地的) speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I also find it not too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters. I find studying the language relaxing and worthwhile, particularly writing the characters. The thing I find most challenging is listening because native speakers talk at such a speed (速度). I can’t always understand what’s been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this greatly.
Despite my progress, it has taken a lot of hard work. Furthermore, there is a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency. The key to progress is to be patient . The satisfaction (满意) that comes from simple things like ordering food (点餐) in Chinese, buying things on the Internet or communicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard work worth it.
My biggest takeaway from learning Chinese is that it’s not only double but can also be enjoyable. Learning Chinese not only helped me in day-to-day life, but deepened my cultural understanding of such a colorful and beautiful country. Considering where I am now, compared to two years ago, as long as I keep studying hard, I can image a time when I’ll be able to read famous Chinese novels not in English but in the original text. So, to all my non-Chinese friends, I always say “Don’t give up. Embrace (拥抱) the challenge.”
1. What is the author’s regret?
A.He had a new challenge. B.He decided to begin his language journey.
C.He didn’t start learning Chinese earlier D.He passed his HSK3 exam.
2. What does the underlined word “insurmountable” mean in paragraph 2?
A.upset. B.Possible. C.Comfortable. D.Difficult.
3. Which one is the most challenging for the author?
A.Writing characters. B.Taking part in HSK exams.
C.Listening to the native speaking. D.Speaking to a taxi driver.
4. Why does the author think learning Chinese is satisfying?
A.It can make the author proud.
B.It makes the author know more Chinese characters.
C.It can be useful in daily life.
D.It makes the author more competitive.
5. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Passing exams isn’t a piece of cake
B.Learning Chinese isn’t unbeatable
C.Explore the historical and cultural country
D.Deepen understanding of Chinese culture
Passage 5
Several studies show communication skills are the most important skills for American adults. They are often taught through Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, which encourage student involvement (参与), offered in K-12 schools in 27 states. But they are also a by-product of theater classes, according to a recent study. The study followed children aged 5 to 18 over six years and found increases in communication skills across ages. The longer the kids spent on the theater classes, the more they gained in 21st-century skills, like communication, creativity, imagination, and problem-solving, says Thalia Goldstein, the study’s co-author.
Theater involves different learning — getting up on your feet to take in information, rather than sitting at a desk. “When you put something in your body, it lasts longer, and you remember it longer,” says Kathryn Dawson, associate professor of theater at the University of Texas at Austin. Theater provides an awareness of space. And it enables more than expressions with words.
For children with autism (孤独症), theater techniques increase eye attention and inspire conversation. This is where the arts level the playing field for children of different abilities; they can participate in meaningful ways where language is not a necessary skill.
Sara Williams, Charlotte’s mother, cites theater as the foundation (基础) for her daughter’s self-awareness. Charlotte began drama classes at age 5. At 13, she is not afraid to speak publicly or join the student council; she listens and has confidence. “Kids go to these classes and come home feeling excited, like they have achieved something,” Williams says. And not just the outgoing kids — for the shy, theater opens them up. A theater class provides a supportive environment, free from unkind judgment. You can keep your personality, and unlike in sports, you’re not competing with anyone.
“Theater is about telling stories. It is one of the best ways to help young people get to know themselves,” Dawson says.
1. What does the recent study find out?
A.Theater classes contribute greatly to children’s social skills.
B.Communication skills matter to children’s development.
C.Theater classes are more effective than SEL programs.
D.Children’s interest in theater classes varies with age.
2. How does Kathryn Dawson explain the impact of theater learning?
A.It focuses on improving one’s artistic skills.
B.It raises children’s awareness of confidence.
C.It strengthens a sense of community among children.
D.It promotes active learning through physical involvement.
3. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.Theater techniques are based on language learning.
B.Theater experiences help practise competitive skills.
C.Theater techniques benefit a wide range of children.
D.Theater classes can be unsuitable for autistic children.
4. What can theater bring to shy children according to the example?
A.A means of gaining an understanding of others.
B.A comfortable space for self-expression.

B.Be open-minded about different learning methods
C.Theater classes equip children with great creativity
D.Design theater classes according to children’s needs
Passage 6
The side door of the small airplane holding fourteen silent passengers was opened wide. Two of them were my adult children, staring out at the endless sky.
When we reached a height of 14, 000 feet, my son’s face turned pale as he inched next to the opening and fell out of the airplane. Something went cold in my heart when I realized he was gone. Seconds later, my daughter appeared in the same space. She, however, was delighted, and fell away after her brother.
For a moment, a desperate fear overcame me. But it soon passed as I felt a strong pull on my pack and was moved into position by my instructor.
With my big birthday coming, my children had chosen to surprise me with an unforgettable experience. I’d wanted to chicken out once we reached the airport, but when a woman celebrating her fiftieth wedding anniversary (周年庆) decided to dive, I knew I had to do it, too.
Soon I was in the air, I forgot all the instructions I'd received minutes earlier. The world below and the endless sky above could be seen perfectly without windows or walls.
It was a symbolic moment. It was only one small step to leave the safety of the small plane to throw myself into the wind, but something transformative happened then. It helped me understand how to overcome fears. I could have refused to leave the plane, missing both the extreme excitement of the fall and the unique beauty of the sky. Holding on to the appearance of safety no longer felt like the only option.
I had grown up in suburbia. Life was satisfying, and I had absolutely no intention to live otherwise. But not long after the skydiving, I was hit by a job offer requiring a move to City Chicago. I took the opportunity and accepted the job. Now, I am seizing the chance to overcome challenges and the fear of what might lie ahead.

C.To celebrate his birthday. D.To challenge his children.
2. Why did the author mention the woman?
A.To express his admiration for her. B.To show skydiving is extremely popular.
C.To clarify age is no reason for quitting. D.To describe the diversity of participants.
3. What kind of person was the author before skydiving?
A.Content and traditional. B.Uncaring and inactive.
C.Forgetful and negative. D.Unsociable and anxious.
4. What happened to the author after the diving?
A.He required to skydive again. B.He accepted a job promotion.
C.He got more opportunities for his job. D.He dared to brave challenges.
5. What is the best title for the passage?
A.Dive to Rise. B.Fear and Flight.
C.Sky's Challenge. D.Birthday experience.

Passage A
(2025.1・广东春季高考)I worked as a journalist and I was lucky to have an interview with Ezra Pryme, the famous English eccentric (怪人).
"I don't have any diseases!" "Mind the steps!" he cried, leading me down some steps. "I don't say that to all my visitors, you know!"

A. introduced oneself B. held out one's hand
C. showed uncertainty D. showed dislikes
2. The writer was allowed to have the interview ______.
A. because he was not a human being B. because he was a lucky journalist
C. but we don't know the reason D. since the eccentric likes journalists
3. Ezra Pryme is called eccentric for the following reasons EXCEPT ______.
A. he never sees any of his children B. he has no time for humans
C. he has seldom had visitors D. he decided to see the journalist
4. From the passage we may infer ______.
A. Ezra Pryme lives far away from people
B. Ezra Pryme keeps himself away from other people
C. the writer hesitated because he thought Ezra Pryme had some disease
D. the short man really has some illness
5. Which of the following most reflects the character of Ezra Pryme?
A. He asked the servant to open the door for the guest.
B. The guest waited for a while before he appeared.
C. Nobody but he sees his collection.
D. He asked the guest to mind the steps.
根据第二段 “As soon as he saw me, he held out his hand. Not expecting this, I hesitated for a moment. "You can shake hands," he said. "I don't have any diseases!"”
根据第一段 “I worked as a journalist and I was lucky to have an interview with Ezra Pryme... I say "lucky", because Ezra Pryme doesn't have much time for humans and he almost has no visitors.”
根据第一段 “Ezra Pryme doesn't have much time for humans and he almost has no visitors... He has a very big family, but he never sees any of his children or his grandchildren.”
根据第一段 “Ezra Pryme doesn't have much time for humans and he almost has no visitors... he never sees any of his children or his grandchildren” 以及他拥有大量艺术品却只有自己能看到的细节,可推断 Ezra Pryme 刻意与他人保持距离。

A.not as efficient as imagined B.easier to manage

While this study is small and just a first step exploring the health benefits of weighted quilts, it does suggest that weighted quilts may help sleep. More related studies will be carried out in the future.

A.Discover. B.Notice. C.Protect. D.Hide.
13.How does the coloring of the blue sea slug provide protection?
A.It floats right side up so the blue faces down in the water.
B.Its gray coloring makes it look the same as ocean waves.
C.Its blue underside and its gray back help it not be seen from above and below.
D.It gives off blue poison into the water to protect it from enemies.
14.What’s the blue dragon’s main defense against enemies?
A.It floats upside down in the water.
B.It stores poison and stings enemies.
C.It feeds on poisonous jellyfish.
D.It moves to coastal waters during times of onshore winds.
15.Which of the following facts about the animal is true according to the passage?

16.Which one is animal-based food?
A.Milk products. B.Fruits. C.Potatoes. D.Vegetables.
17.What’s the result of this study?
A.Many people choose to walk to work.
B.Plant-based diets are healthier and greener.
C.The more we eat, the better the environment is.
D.15 foods common in western diets are not healthy.
18.What is the main idea of paragraph 5?
A.The harm of CO2. B.The risk of heart trouble.

21.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By telling a story. B.By asking a question.
C.By giving a comparison. D.By describing a scene.
22.When did the world become interested in crop circles?
A.In the 1500s. B.After 1980. C.In 1900. D.After 1990.
23.Which of the following is TRUE about crop circles in Paragraph 4?
A.Early crop circles were very small in size.
B.Large crop circles were usually round in shape.
C.Crop circles of all kinds began to appear after 1990.
D.Flower-shaped crop circles were first found in the 1500s.
24.Which point do you think Dr. Terence Meaden would agree with?
A.Crop circles may be man-made.
B.Crop circles could be marks left by aliens.
C.The UFO-like light could be caused by dust.
D.Vortices are sure to create perfectly shaped crop circles.
25.Which is the best way to divide the passage?
A.①/②③/④/⑤⑥ B.①②③/④/⑤/⑥

16.What is the author’s regret?
A.He had a new challenge. B.He decided to begin his language journey.
C.He didn’t start learning Chinese earlier D.He passed his HSK3 exam.
17.What does the underlined word “insurmountable” mean in paragraph 2?
A.upset. B.Possible. C.Comfortable. D.Difficult.
18.Which one is the most challenging for the author?
A.Writing characters. B.Taking part in HSK exams.
C.Listening to the native speaking. D.Speaking to a taxi driver.
19.Why does the author think learning Chinese is satisfying?
A.It can make the author proud.
B.It makes the author know more Chinese characters.
C.It can be useful in daily life.
D.It makes the author more competitive.
20.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Passing exams isn’t a piece of cake
B.Learning Chinese isn’t unbeatable
C.Explore the historical and cultural country
D.Deepen understanding of Chinese culture

I also find it not too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters.(当我和母语者用汉语交谈时,他们几乎都能理解我。
根据第二段中的“The thing I find most challenging is listening because native speakers talk at such a speed (速度).(我发现最具挑战的事是听力,因为母语者们语速如此之快)”可知,因为母语者说的语速很快,所以,作者认为学习汉语时最困难的部分是听母语者讲话。故选C项。
根据第三段中的“The satisfaction (满意) that comes from simple things like ordering food (点餐) in Chinese, buying things on the Internet or communicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard work worth it.(一些小事带来的满足感,比如用中文点餐,在网上购物或是和出租车司机交流,让我感到所有的辛苦都是值得的)”可知,作者认为用中文点餐,在网上购物或者与出租车司机交流这些小事带来很多的满足感,由此可知,因为日常生活中能使用汉语,所以作者认为学习中文令他感到满足。故选C项。

21.What does the recent study find out?
A.Theater classes contribute greatly to children’s social skills.
B.Communication skills matter to children’s development.
C.Theater classes are more effective than SEL programs.
D.Children’s interest in theater classes varies with age.
22.How does Kathryn Dawson explain the impact of theater learning?
A.It focuses on improving one’s artistic skills.
B.It raises children’s awareness of confidence.
C.It strengthens a sense of community among children.
D.It promotes active learning through physical involvement.
23.What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.Theater techniques are based on language learning.
B.Theater experiences help practise competitive skills.
C.Theater techniques benefit a wide range of children.
D.Theater classes can be unsuitable for autistic children.
24.What can theater bring to shy children according to the example?
A.A means of gaining an understanding of others. B.A comfortable space for self-expression.
C.A gateway to discovering hidden talents. D.A chance to accept your disadvantages.
25.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Theater education shapes children’s self-growth
B.Be open-minded about different learning methods
C.Theater classes equip children with great creativity
D.Design theater classes according to children’s needs

根据文章第一段“But they are also a by-product of theater classes, according to a recent study. The study followed children aged 5 to 18 over six years and found increases in communication skills across ages. The longer the kids spent on the theater classes, the more they gained in 21st-century skills, like communication, creativity, imagination, and problem-solving, says Thalia Goldstein, the study’s co-author.(但根据最近的一项研究,戏剧课也能带来沟通技巧的提升。 故选A。
根据文章第二段“Theater involves different learning — getting up on your feet to take in information, rather than sitting at a desk. “When you put something in your body, it lasts longer, and you remember it longer,” says Kathryn Dawson, associate professor of theater at the University of Texas at Austin. Theater provides an awareness of space. And it enables more than expressions with words.

根据文章第四段“And not just the outgoing kids — for the shy, theater opens them up. A theater class provides a supportive environment, free from unkind judgment. You can keep your personality, and unlike in sports, you’re not competing with anyone.(而且不只是外向的孩子如此——对于害羞的孩子来说,戏剧也能让他们敞开心扉。
故选A。
26.Why is the author on the plane?

A.To express his admiration for her. B.To show skydiving is extremely popular.
C.To clarify age is no reason for quitting. D.To describe the diversity of participants.
28.What kind of person was the author before skydiving?
A.Content and traditional. B.Uncaring and inactive.
C.Forgetful and negative. D.Unsociable and anxious.
29.What happened to the author after the diving?
A.He required to skydive again. B.He accepted a job promotion.
C.He got more opportunities for his job. D.He dared to brave challenges.
30.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Dive to Rise. B.Fear and Flight.
