Brandeis University has launched its study abroad program in San Juan, Puerto Rico, led by Sally Werner, professor of climate science. The program aims to get students to learn about the impacts of climate change on a Caribbean island that has been damaged by powerful hurricanes, rising seas and warming temperatures throughout the past decade. Over the course of five weeks in late May and June 12 Brandeis students took environmental studies courses. They learned about basic knowledge of ocean and sustainable development issues that affect the entire Caribbean region. They also took a course in Spanish language and Puerto Rican culture. The trip also gave students the chance to live and work among locals who have lived through hurricanes. “I have seen how the strength and support of a community is crucial to rebuilding after climate change disasters and in overcoming climate change itself,” Werner said. That’s exactly the sort of lesson that Werner hopes all students take away from the program. A Rock climbing, one of the fastest growing sports, not only builds physical strength and mental focus, but also leads you to some beautiful places. Here are some climbing spots for climbers. Acadia National Park, Maine This popular New England park is one of the few places where you can climb seaside rocks. The granite (花岗岩) is good for climbing. In some areas, you need to start when the sea is at its lowest level. The area has guides, instructors and climbing schools, making it particularly welcoming for beginners. More information: nps.gov/acad City of Rocks, Idaho This national reserve near the Utah border is worth a trip for the scenery alone. Named by gold miners heading to California in 1849, its granite looks like skyscrapers, towering 600 feet above the ground. It’s a fascinating area from a geologic and geographic angle. Many visitors come for August’s Idaho Mountain Festival, a celebration of climbing with top athletes in attendance. Which of the following favors a parent with a child? A. City of Rocks. B. Red River Gorge. C. Acadia National Park. D. Earth Treks Englewood. C 22. B 23. 根据文章第二部分Acadia National Park, Maine的“This popular New England park is one of the few places where you can climb seaside rocks.”(这个受欢迎的新英格兰公园是少数几个可以攀爬海边岩石的地方之一。) 根据文章第三部分City of Rocks, Idaho的“Many visitors come for August’s Idaho Mountain Festival, a celebration of climbing with top athletes in attendance.”(许多游客前来参加 8 月的爱达荷山地节,这是一个有顶级运动员参加的攀岩庆典。) 根据文章最后一部分Earth Treks Englewood, Colorado的“With 53,000 square feet, the massive facility has a special rock climbing area, a group of guides and even extras like childcare and yoga.”(这个占地 53,000 平方英尺的大型设施有一个特殊的攀岩区、一群导游,甚至还有儿童保育和瑜伽等额外设施。) B The lights from the cottage windows disappear, as we follow a dark footpath through a field into the open countryside. Thick clouds prevent the moonlight from lighting up the way ahead. Yet, as my eyes begin to get used to the darkness, the landscape around me reveals itself in a new light. Mount Caburn, an iron-age hill fort, looks like shadows against the sky. On the horizon is a tree bent by the wind. The outcrop (露出的部分) at the top of the field turns out to be a flock of sleeping sheep. A fox cries, a pheasant (野鸡) crows, and the air is full of a strong earthy scent. “For most of human history, man lived in close contact with the land,” says Nigel Berman, my guide. “Only in the past few hundred years have we shut ourselves off from our natural surroundings. Walking at night is a powerful way of reconnecting. When your vision is reduced, your other senses are sharpened.” Nigel and I walk from the village of Glynde across the South Downs towards the town of Lewes. It is a walk I know well by day, but at night everything is different, and a familiar stroll becomes a mini adventure. When Nigel told me not to bring a torch, I was alarmed. I can’t remember the last time I used my night vision and I’m not even sure how it works. Normally, at this time of night, I would be having a glass of wine in front of the television, but being out in the countryside is a purer form of relaxation. I forget about work and family tensions, and begin to blend into the surroundings. There is no one other than Nigel to see or hear me and, with little visual distraction, my mind calms. I am aware of the breeze on my face, the rustle (沙沙声) of leaves, and as I watch the clouds slowly changing colour against the sky like a natural sound and light show, it feels mesmeric. As we reach the top, Lewes appears below as a twinkly mass of lights, a sight I would generally consider inviting. In just a few hours, however, I find myself reluctant to walk back down. Walking at night is like discovering a new world on your doorstep. As Henry David Thoreau wrote in Night and Moonlight: “Night is certainly more novel and less profane (世俗的) than day.” 24. The underlined word in the last but one paragraph probably means “________”. A. interesting B. fascinating C. frightening D. disappointing 25. According to the article what was the author’s greatest concern before the night walk? A. That he might disturb wild animals. B. That he wouldn’t be able to see without a torch. C. That he might feel bored along the way. D. That he would encounter bad weather. 26. According to the article, the author did NOT see ________ during the night walk. ①rare birds ②a new moon ③farm animals ④leafless trees ⑤moving clouds A. ①②④ B. ①③⑤ C. ①②③④ D. ②③④⑤ 27. What can we infer from the article about the author? A. He had gone for a walk on his own at night before. B. He intentionally picked a cloudy night for his walk. C. He successfully reached the top of the mountain before sunrise. D. He started to know how to manage family tensions after the night walk. B 25. B 26. A 27. 根据画线词的上文“Normally, at this time of night, I would be having a glass of wine in front of the television, but being out in the countryside is a purer form of relaxation. I forget about work and family tensions, and begin to blend into the surroundings. (通常在这个深夜时分,我本该端着酒杯坐在电视机前。但此刻置身乡野,却体验到了一种更为纯粹的放松。工作的压力、家庭的烦忧都被抛诸脑后,我渐渐与周围的环境融为一体)”可知,在夜间行走让作者感到放松,作者开始融入环境;再结合画线词所在句“I am aware of the breeze on my face, the rustle (沙沙声) of leaves, and as I watch the clouds slowly changing colour against the sky like a natural sound and light show (我能感受到微风拂面,听见树叶沙沙作响,当我注视着云朵在天空中缓缓变幻色彩,宛如一场天然的光影秀时)”可知,作者深切感受着自然景象的变化,此时作者应该觉得这幅景象是迷人的,画线词意思是“迷人的”,与fascinating“迷人的”含义最接近。 根据第四段中“When Nigel told me not to bring a torch, I was alarmed. I can’t remember the last time I used my night vision and I’m not even sure how it works. (当Nigel叫我不要带手电筒时,我感到很惊慌。我记不清上一次使用夜视能力是什么时候了,甚至不确定它是否还管用)”可知,作者最大的担忧是没有手电筒可能无法看清路。故选B项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“Thick clouds prevent the moonlight from lighting up the way ahead. (厚厚的云层遮蔽了月光,使得前方的道路一片漆黑)”、第二段中“The outcrop (露出的部分) at the top of the field turns out to be a flock of sleeping sheep. (田地边缘隆起的小丘,原来是一群熟睡的羊)”和第五段中“as I watch the clouds slowly changing colour against the sky like a natural sound and light show (当我注视着云朵在天空中缓缓变幻色彩,宛如一场天然的光影秀时)”可知,作者看到了农场的动物和移动的云,未见到稀有鸟类、新月和无叶的树。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“As we reach the top, Lewes appears below as a twinkly mass of lights, a sight I would generally consider inviting. (当我们登顶时,Lewes镇在下方闪烁着点点灯火——这般景象平日定会让我心驰神往)”可知,作者登上山顶时镇上仍都亮着灯,由此推知此时还没日出。故选C项。 C Secondhand markets are thriving in China today, with secondhand trading having gradually become a significant part of the lives of China’s young people. When asked about the reasons for shopping secondhand, some said it was low-carbon and environmentally beneficial. Secondhand items can be redistributed to new owners, highlighting a more environmentally friendly and sustainable way of life. And others appreciate the deeper significance behind secondhand markets — not only do they serve basic functions such as exchanging items, saving, or earning extra money, but they have also evolved into social spaces and cultural expressions. This trend has become even more evident since “guzi” gained popularity. “Guzi” — a term sharing the same pronunciation as the English word “goods” and referring to badges, figure statues, cards, and other products with ACG (animation, comic, and game) culture elements — became widely popular last year, and from then on most transactions in secondhand markets have been related to hobbies, including outdoor sports, digital products, etc. Lu Qing, a guzi collector who often organizes group secondhand purchases, said, “It helps me meet many friends with the same interests”. An interesting phenomenon in secondhand guzi trading is that seemingly unimportant items like Ultraman (奥特曼) cards can fetch prices comparable to luxury bags — the value of such items is determined not just by their original price and brand, but also by their symbolic significance! However, some unexpected situations arose alongside the prosperity of secondhand guzi. When the act of showing off expensive secondhand guzi and the number of guzi that one owns becomes a way to “prove one’s loyalty”, fans who spend less may feel ashamed, while some younger fans admire those who are able to fill their rooms with guzi. This trend is actually a form of consumerism. 28. What do we learn about secondhand markets in China today? A. They damage the environment. B. They redistribute new items. C. They increase national savings. D. They offer a social platform. 29. Which of the following can be referred to as guzi? A. A Luxury bag. B. A Ne Zha statuette. C. A picture of the sea. D. A box of poker. 30. What can we learn about the prices of the secondhand guzi from paragraph 5? A. They are affected by their symbolic meanings. B. They are decided just by their original prices and brands. C. They are up to their quantities on the market. D. They are open to instant bargaining. 31. What can be learned about the secondhand guzi from the last paragraph? A. They are testimony to fans’ loyalty. B. Their high price may disturb the market order. C. They are unnecessary social products. D. Their popularity may cause irrational behaviour. D 29. B 30. A 31. 根据文章第三段中“And others appreciate the deeper significance behind secondhand markets — not only do they serve basic functions such as exchanging items, saving, or earning extra money, but they have also evolved into social spaces and cultural expressions.(另一些人则欣赏二手市场背后的深层意义——它们不仅具有交换物品、储蓄或赚取额外收入等基本功能,而且还演变成社会空间和文化表达。)” 根据文章第四段提到““Guzi” — a term sharing the same pronunciation as the English word “goods” and referring to badges, figure statues, cards, and other products with ACG (animation, comic, and game) culture elements(‘谷子’一词与英文单词“goods”发音相同,指的是带有ACG(动画、漫画和游戏)文化元素的徽章、人物雕像、卡片和其他产品。)” 根据第五段“An interesting phenomenon in secondhand guzi trading is that seemingly unimportant items like Ultraman (奥特曼) cards can fetch prices comparable to luxury bags—the value of such items is determined not just by their original price and brand, but also by their symbolic significance!(二手‘谷子’交易中一个有趣的现象是,像奥特曼卡这样看似不重要的东西可以卖到与奢侈包包相当的价格——这些东西的价值不仅取决于它们的原价和品牌,还取决于它们的象征意义!)” 故选A项。 根据最后一段中“When the act of showing off expensive secondhand guzi and the number of guzi that one owns becomes a way to “prove one’s loyalty”, fans who spend less may feel ashamed, while some younger fans admire those who are able to fill their rooms with guzi. D As cities balloon with growth, access to nature for people living in urban areas is becoming harder to find. If you’re lucky, there might be a pocket park near where you live, but it’s unusual to find places in a city that are relatively wild. Past research has found health and wellness benefits of nature for humans, but a new study shows that wildness in urban areas is extremely important for human well-being. The research team focused on a large urban park. They surveyed several hundred park-goers, asking them to submit (呈递) a written summary online of a meaningful interaction they had with nature in the park. The researchers then examined these submissions, coding (编码) experiences into different categories. For example, one participant’s experience of “We sat and listened to the waves at the beach for a while” was assigned the categories “sitting at beach” and “listening to waves.” Across the 320 submissions, a pattern of categories the researchers call a “nature language” began to emerge. After the coding of all submissions, half a dozen categories were noted most often as important to visitors. These include encountering wildlife, walking along the edge of water, and following an established trail. Naming each nature experience creates a usable language, which helps people recognize and take part in the activities that are most satisfying and meaningful to them. For example, the experience of walking along the edge of water might be satisfying for a young professional on a weekend hike in the park. Back downtown during a workday, they can enjoy a more domestic (国内的,家庭的) form of this interaction by walking along a fountain on their lunch break. “We’re trying to generate a language that helps bring the human-nature interactions back into our daily lives. And for that to happen, we also need to protect nature so that we can interact with it,” said Peter Kahn, a senior author of the study. 32. What phenomenon does the author describe at the beginning of the text? A. Pocket parks are now popular. B. Wild nature is hard to find in cities. C. Many cities are overpopulated. D. People enjoy living close to nature. 33. What does the underlined word “emerge” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Imagine. B. Obtain. C. Appear. D. Integrate. 34. Why did the researchers code participant submissions into categories? A. To compare different types of park-goers. B. To explain why the park attracts tourists. C. To analyze the main features of the park. D. To find patterns in the visitors’ summaries. 35. What should be done before we can interact with nature according to Kahn? A. Language study. B. Environmental protection. C. Public education. D. Intercultural communication. B 33. C 34. D 35. 根据第一段“As cities balloon with growth, access to nature for people living in urban areas is becoming harder to find. If you’re lucky, there might be a pocket park near where you live, but it’s unusual to find places in a city that are relatively wild. (随着城市的飞速发展,生活在城市地区的人们越来越难以接近大自然。如果幸运的话,你住的地方附近可能有一个口袋公园,但在城市中找到相对荒野的地方是不寻常的。)”可知,作者在开头描述了在城市里很难找到野生的自然的现象。故选B项。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线部分的下文“After the coding of all submissions, half a dozen categories were noted most often as important to visitors. (在对所有提交的内容进行编码后,有六个类别被认为对游客者最重要。)”可知,重要的类别是根据编码的结果得出的,由此推知,此处指“自然语言”的类别模式从结果中显现,画线词意思应该与Appear“出现,显现”相近。故选C项。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“After the coding of all submissions, half a dozen categories were noted most often as important to visitors. These include encountering wildlife, walking along the edge of water, and following an established trail. (在对所有提交的内容进行编码后,有六个类别被认为对游客最重要。这些活动包括遇到野生动物,沿着水边散步,沿着一条既定的小路走。)”可知,根据编码的结果,研究人员得出了哪些类别的自然体验对人们来说最重要。由此可知,研究人员对参与者提交的内容进行分类是为了在游客的总结中找到特定模式。故选D项。 【35题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中Peter Kahn所说的话“We’re trying to generate a language that helps bring the human-nature interactions back into our daily lives. And for that to happen, we also need to protect nature so that we can interact with it (我们正在努力创造一种语言,帮助将人类与自然的互动带回我们的日常生活。为了实现这一点,我们还需要保护自然,这样我们才能与它互动)”可知,Kahn认为在我们与自然互动之前,我们应该完成环境保护。故选B项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Nowadays, meaningfully connecting with new people is no mean achievement. From the decline of the office to the rise of single-occupancy flats, our social lives are being taken away from us. ____36____ Their ads promote the safety and convenience of staying home and not seeing or talking to another human. It wasn’t always like this. ____37____ You’ll see cafes and nightclubs and buses and trains filled with life and conversation. People talk to one another. Loudly and proudly, they just talk. ____38____ So, I tried it out on everyone I met, from neighbors and shopkeepers to hospitality workers and groups of strangers in cafes and pubs. ____39____ I remember being attracted into one of Gail’s bakeries by the background music they played. I walked over to the baker. 【36题详解】 根据上文“From the decline of the office to the rise of single - occupancy flats, our social lives are being taken away from us.(从办公室的减少到单人公寓的兴起,我们的社交生活正被剥夺)”以及下文“Their ads promote the safety and convenience of staying home and not seeing or talking to another human.(它们的广告宣扬待在家里、不与他人见面或交谈的安全性和便利性)”可知,上文提到了我们的社交生活正被剥夺,下文提到了广告宣扬待在家里、不与他人见面或交谈的安全性和便利性,可推理出空白处应提及另一个导致人们减少社交、不愿外出的因素,G项“Meanwhile, streaming services and food-delivery apps discourage us from going out.(与此同时,流媒体服务和外卖应用阻止我们外出)”符合语境,故填G项。 【37题详解】 根据上文“It wasn’t always like this.(事情并不总是这样的)”以及下文“You’ll see cafes and nightclubs and buses and trains filled with life and conversation.(你会看到咖啡馆、夜总会、公交车和火车上充满了生机和交谈)”可知,下文提到了咖啡馆、夜总会、公交车和火车上充满了生机和交谈,可推理出此处是要展现过去不同的社交场景,A项“Look at photos of city life in the 90s or 00s.(看看 90 年代或 00 年代的城市生活照片)”能够引出下文描述的过去的热闹景象,符合逻辑。故填A项。 【38题详解】 根据上文“People talk to one another. Loudly and proudly, they just talk.(人们彼此交谈。他们大声而自豪地交谈着)”以及下文“So, I tried it out on everyone I met, from neighbors and shopkeepers to hospitality workers and groups of strangers in cafes and pubs (于是,我便试着与遇到的每个人打交道,从邻居、店主到咖啡馆和酒吧里的服务人员以及成群的陌生人)”可知,上文提到了人们彼此交谈,下文提到了我便试着与遇到的每个人打交道,可推理出作者受过去人们轻松交谈的启发,想要尝试这种社交方式,D项“What better way to make social connections than this?(还有什么比这更好的建立社交联系的方式呢?)” 【39题详解】 根据下文“I remember being attracted into one of Gail’s bakeries by the background music they played. I walked over to the baker. I pointed upwards. “Are you guys responsible for this playlist?” A nod. “Ah, great, love it” He smiles thinly and nods a polite “goodbye”, which everyone knows means: “GO AWAY IMMEDIATELY, PLEASE.”(我记得当时被盖尔烘焙坊播放的背景音乐所吸引,便走了过去。我朝上指了指,问道:‘这首歌单是你们选的吗?’对方点了点头。‘太好了,很喜欢!’他淡淡地笑了笑,礼貌地点了下头算是道别——而人人都明白这意思其实是:‘请立刻离开!’)”可知,这次互动并不顺利,B项“My first interaction experiment didn’t go so well.(我的第一次互动实验进展不太顺利)”能够概括这段经历,引出下文具体内容。故填B项。 【40题详解】 根据上文“Yet persistence paid off when the ice was finally broken by Graham, a fellow resident of my little neighborhood. We got chatting one day while he was smoking on his doorstep. I mentioned being a writer, and he paused, taking a long drag on his cigarette, and said, “Words are to the mind what exercise is to the body.” That profound insight immediately opened a channel between us I was first going into this final day, the Junior Sled Dog Championship. Having swallowed a big mouthful of chicken, I took a deep breath and began, “Could I invite some friends over tomorrow? Just for the afternoon?” My parents exchanged a glance, then nodded readily. But beside me, my younger sister, Lily, froze. Her wide eyes locked onto mine. “But... what about Miracle? She’ll be terrified, Ethan.” Miracle was a cat Lily rescued on a rainy day last winter. True to her name, the cat had survived. Yet, it remained a creature of profound shyness: Loud voices sent her trembling under beds; sudden movements made her jump. She wasn’t just a pet; she was a fragile soul Lily fiercely protected. “I promise, Lily,” I insisted, leaning forward, meeting her worried gaze(凝视). “We’ll stay in the living room. No loud music, no shouting games. I’ll keep the back door shut tight, and I’ll warn everyone to be quiet. Miracle won’t even know they’re here.” I saw the conflict in her eyes — her desire to be supportive warring with her deep concern for the poor cat. After a tense silence, she finally gave a small, reluctant nod. Saturday arrived with sunshine and laughter as my friends piled in. True to my word, I guided them straight to the living room, reminding them firmly about Miracle’s sensitivity.Initially, we chatted, played cards quietly. Glancing around, I spotted Miracle sliding silently down the hallway towards Lily’s room. Good, she’s keeping her distance, I thought, relieved. As the afternoon wore on, however, the initial caution disappeared. A competitive board game led to enthusiastic cheers and laughter. Lost in the sheer fun of being with my friends, I forgot everything - he promise, the fragile creature. After friends departed with cheerful goodbyes, I began tidying empty glasses, still lost in the happy scenes when Lily burst through the front door into her room. Then came her scream, “Ethan, Miracle is gone.” A cold wave of fear rushed through me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Luckily, we finally found Miracle in the backyard. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 A cold wave of fear rushed through me. I remembered opening the backdoor for some air. Miracle must have got scared out of the house then. My sister looked at me in disbelief. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling over. “You promised” The words weren’t shouted, but they cut deep. Shame burned my face. Without a word, I grabbed a flashlight and raced into the backyard, Lily closely behind, her calls for Miracle now desperate and choked with tears. We searched like crazy. Luckily, we found Miracle in the backyard. There hidden under the thick bushes was Miracle. I dropped to my knees and scooped it up gently and placed it into Lily’s waiting hands. Once we went back home, I apologized sincerely, “I am so, so sorry.” I slowly reached out towards Lily, placing my hand gently over hers. “Can you forgive me?” Lily looked down at Miracle, then back at me, her eyes still wet but softening slightly. A fragile bridge of forgiveness began to form. 续写线索:恐惧醒悟 —— 妹妹质问 —— 心生愧疚 —— 外出寻找 —— 找到猫咪 —— 真诚道歉 —— 妹妹态度缓和 词汇激活 行为类 ①看:look at/ fix one’s eyes on ②冲向:race to/dash to ③道歉:apologize/say sorry 情绪类 ①难以置信的:be in disbelief /gape in astonishment ②绝望的:desperate/hopeless 【点睛】[高分句型1]. Here are some climbing spots for climbers. Acadia National Park, Maine This popular New England park is one of the few places where you can climb seaside rocks. The area has guides, instructors and climbing schools, making it particularly welcoming for beginners. More information: nps.gov/acad City of Rocks, Idaho This national reserve near the Utah border is worth a trip for the scenery alone. Named by gold miners heading to California in 1849 its granite looks like skyscrapers, towering 600 feet above the ground. It’s a fascinating area from a geologic and geographic angle. Many visitors come for August’s Idaho Mountain Festival, a celebration of climbing with top athletes in attendance. More information: nps.gov/ciro Red River Gorge, Kentucky This geological area in Daniel Boone National Forest is prized for its climbing routes and rock scenery. The park, located an hour’s drive southeast of Lexington, is well known in the climbing world for both beginner-friendly terrain(地形)and more challenging sections. Which of the following favors a parent with a child? A. City of Rocks. B. Red River Gorge. C. Acadia National Park. D. Earth Treks Englewood. B The lights from the cottage windows disappear, as we follow a dark footpath through a field into the open countryside. According to the article, what was the author’s greatest concern before the night walk? C Secondhand markets are thriving in China today, with secondhand trading having gradually become a significant part of the lives of China’s young people. An interesting phenomenon in secondhand guzi trading is that seemingly unimportant items like Ultraman (奥特曼) cards can fetch prices comparable to luxury bags — the value of such items is determined not just by their original price and brand but also by their symbolic significance! 35 What should be done before we can interact with nature according to Kahn? A. Language study. B. Environmental protection. C. Public education. D. Intercultural communication. Nowadays, meaningfully connecting with new people is no mean achievement. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
