Exercise helps to keep us in good health. Doctors at the American Heart Association suggest getting at least 150 minutes of proper physical activity every week. Many people exercise for a few minutes every day or every other day. So, getting 150 minutes every week is easy.
But what about those times when you are sick? If you do not feel well, should you keep following your exercise habit? Following are the answers from health experts.
Edward R. Laskowski is a doctor at the Mayo Clinic. He and other experts have a general rule about exercising when you are sick. It is usually fine to exercise properly (not hard), he explains, if your symptoms are all “above the neck”. These signs may include a runny nose, sneezing (打喷嚏) or a sore throat.
Geralyn Coopersmith, a physical fitness trainer who has written several books on exercise offers similar advice. However, both Coopersmith and Dr. Laskowski suggest taking a break from exercising if signs of your illness appears “below the neck”. Pay special attention to symptoms such as chest congestion (胸闷), bad cough or pain in the stomach.
There are other symptoms that can tell you to avoid exercise. They include a higher than normal body temperature, a sense of feeling very tired, and widespread muscle pain.
Both Coopersmith and Dr. Laskowski suggest listening to your body. If you feel really bad, take a break and let your body rest. If you don’t feel too bad, these experts both suggest cutting down the amount of exercise. For example, if you usually run, take a quick walk instead.
28.How long should people do exercise according to doctors?
A.No less than 150 minutes a week. B.At least 150 minutes each day.
C.At least a few minutes every day. D.About 150 minutes every other day.
29.People with symptoms “below the neck” are advised to ______.
A.walk instead of run B.stop exercise
C.ignore the symptoms D.do less exercise
30.What will the writer be likely to agree with?

根据最后一段中“Both Coopersmith and Dr. Laskowski suggest listening to your body. If you feel really bad, take a break and let your body rest. On February 13, 2023, Wu Yibing made history, beating John Isner in a thrilling three-set final at the Dallas Open to become the first man from China to win an ATP title.
Brought to a tennis court for the first time at just five, initially encouraged by his parents as an exercise to lose weight, Wu soon had his talent discovered by his provincial junior team, kicking off a journey that would change the face of men’s tennis in China. In 2017, Wu Yibing shot to prominence after winning the US Open boys’ tournament at 18 to become the first Chinese to win a major junior title, raising high hopes for the “Wonder Boy” to change the fortune of Chinese men in a sport long dominated by women’s success on the pro stage.
In 2018, Wu won his first ATP Challenger title in Shanghai. However, the cruelly competitive nature of men’s pro tennis hit the rising Wu with a tough reminder after multiple injuries — to his elbow, lower back, shoulder and wrist — forced him to be away from the ATP Tour for close to three years.
He made his return last year and won three ATP Challenger titles before qualifying for the US Open. “Looking back, I feel like I wouldn’t have been here if not for the ups and downs over the past few years. I take all the setbacks and struggles as an treasure that helps me mature mentally now,” said Wu. “Of course there were a lot of doubts because I had surgery and the recovery wasn’t going well. The championship today was a payoff for all the hard work and everyone who’s supported me along the way.”
31.What do the underlined words “shot to prominence” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Lost weight. B.Came back to the top.
C.Became famous instantly. D.Dropped out of the competition.
32.Why was Wu absent from the ATP Tour for nearly three years?
A.He wanted to change his career.
B.He suffered from serious physical injuries.
C.He didn’t stand out in training for the match.
D.He can’t handle the pressure of the ATP Tour.
33.What can we learn from Wu Yibing’s statement?
A.No cross, no crown. B.Well begun is half done.
C.More haste, less speed. D.Time waits for no man.
34.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.The Development of Chinese Tennis B.The Power of Difficulties for Athletes
C.The Pioneer of Chinese Tennis Sport D.The First Chinese Male Winner of ATP Title
【答案】31.C 32.B 33.A 34.D
根据第二段第二句“In 2017,Wu Yibing shot to prominence after winning the US Open boys’ tournament at 18 to become the first Chinese to win a major junior title, raising high hopes for the “Wonder Boy” to change the fortune of Chinese men in a sport long dominated by women’s success on the professional stage.”( 2017 年, 18 岁的吴易昺赢得了美国男子公开赛冠军后shot to prominence,成为了首位赢得重要青少年锦标赛冠军的中国人,这使得人们对这位“神奇男孩”寄予厚望,希望他能在这项长期由女性主导的职业运动中改变中国男网的命运。)
根据第三段第二句“However, the highly competitive nature of men's professional tennis hit the rising Wu with a tough reminder after multiple injuries-to his elbow, lower back, shoulder and wrist-forced him to be away from the ATP Tour for close to three years.”(然而,男子职业网球残酷的竞争特性打击了正处于上升期的吴易昺,他的肘部、下背部、肩膀和手腕多处受伤, 这迫使他离开 ATP 巡回赛近三年。)
根据最后一段中的“Looking back, I feel like I wouldn't have been here if not for the ups and downs over the past few years. I take all the setbacks and struggles as a lesson that helps me mature mentally now,” said Wu. “Of course there were a lot of doubts because I had surgery and the recovery wasn't going well. The championship today was a payoff for all the hard work and everyone who's supported me along the way.” A项No cross, no crown. Well begun is half done. Time waits for no man. 故选A。
第一段提到“On February 13, 2023, Wu Yibing made history, beating John Isner in a thrilling three-set final at the Dallas Open to become the first man from China to win an ATP title.”(2023年2月13日,吴易昺创造了历史,在一场激动人心的达拉斯公开赛决赛中击败了约翰·伊斯内尔,成为第一位获得ATP冠军的中国人。) D项“The First Chinese Male Winner of ATP Title”(中国第一个男子ATP冠军)符合文意,可用作文章标题。故选D。

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been stuck indoors. Online classes and working from home mean a lot of sitting around on your butt. We already know that if we don’t move much, we get fatter, we get heart problems and we may get diabetes. 35 .
A study of 937 Brazilian adults during the pandemic found that about one-third of them sat around for more than 10 hours per day. It reported that people who sat for too long often showed more symptoms of depression.
36 . It found that each extra hour of sitting time at ages 8, 10 and 12 led to higher depression scores by age 18. Eighteen-year-olds who sat most often had depression scores 28 percent higher than those who were more active.
37 . But according to Mats Hallgren from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, “sitting for too long can slow blood flow in the body, including blood flow to the brain.” It might also affect the growth of neurons in the brain. And couch potatoes might do other unhealthy things while sitting, such as snacking on junk food. All these may lead to depression.
The good news? 38 . Aaron Kandola from University College London, UK, said “all types” of movement might help, even light activity. “It is great to exercise and play sports,” said Kandola. “But anything you can do to avoid sitting for too long will help with mood, stress and thinking clearly.” 39 .
A.Scientists are not sure yet about the link between too much sitting and depression
B.But new studies have shown that it could hurt our mental health too
C.Sitting for a long time may cause more damage to children than adults
D.It’s easy to overcome
E.The key message is just to move more, more often
F.Another study looked at children
G.Sitting for too long affects us in many ways
【答案】35.B 36.F 37.A 38.D 39.E
35.根据上文“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been stuck indoors. Online classes and working from home mean a lot of sitting around on your butt. We already know that if we don’t move much, we get fatter, we get heart problems and we may get diabetes.(自2019冠状病毒疾病大流行以来,许多人一直被困在室内。在线课程和在家工作意味着你要坐在那里无所事事。我们已经知道,如果我们不经常运动,我们会变得更胖,我们会有心脏问题,我们可能会得糖尿病)”可知,本句为本段最后一句,应承接上文继续说明不运动给身体带来的危害。故B选项“但新的研究表明,它也会损害我们的心理健康”符合语境,故选B。
36.根据后文“It found that each extra hour of sitting time at ages 8, 10 and 12 led to higher depression scores by age 18. Eighteen-year-olds who sat most often had depression scores 28 percent higher than those who were more active.(研究发现,在8岁、10岁和12岁时,每多坐一小时,18岁时的抑郁得分就会更高。经常坐着的18岁青少年的抑郁得分比那些经常运动的青少年高出28%)”可知,后文提到了关于青少年的研究发现,可见本段是在说明针对儿童的研究发现,F选项中Another study对应后文中it。故F选项“另一项针对儿童的研究”符合语境,故选F。
37.根据后文“But according to Mats Hallgren from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, “sitting for too long can slow blood flow in the body, including blood flow to the brain.” It might also affect the growth of neurons in the brain. And couch potatoes might do other unhealthy things while sitting, such as snacking on junk food. All these may lead to depression.(但瑞典卡罗林斯卡学院的Mats Hallgren表示:“久坐会减缓体内血液流动,包括大脑的血液流动。”它还可能影响大脑神经元的生长。坐在沙发上看电视的人可能会做其他不健康的事情,比如吃垃圾食品。所有这些都可能导致抑郁)”可知,后文主要说明了久坐会导致抑郁症的原因,且提到了各种导致抑郁的可能因素,可见久坐与抑郁症之间的联系还不能确定。故A选项“科学家们还不确定久坐与抑郁症之间的联系”符合语境,故选A。
38.根据上文“The good news?(好消息是什么呢?)”以及后文“Aaron Kandola from University College London, UK, said “all types” of movement might help, even light activity. “It is great to exercise and play sports,” said Kandola. “But anything you can do to avoid sitting for too long will help with mood, stress and thinking clearly.”(英国伦敦大学学院的亚伦·坎多拉说,“所有类型”的运动都可能有帮助,即使是轻微的活动。坎多拉说:“这里非常适合锻炼和运动。但任何避免久坐的方法都有助于缓解情绪、缓解压力、清晰思考。”)”可知,后文提到了解决方法,可见好消息就是这种情况可以得到克服。故D选项“很容易克服”符合语境,故选D。
39.根据上文“Aaron Kandola from University College London, UK, said “all types” of movement might help, even light activity. “It is great to exercise and play sports,” said Kandola. “But anything you can do to avoid sitting for too long will help with mood, stress and thinking clearly.”(英国伦敦大学学院的亚伦·坎多拉说,“所有类型”的运动都可能有帮助,即使是轻微的活动。
If you enjoy walking for exercise, there’s a simple way to meet your demand — change your walk into a ruck, and it’s an increasingly popular form of exercise.
Rucking is walking with weight on your back. The term “rucking” comes from ruck marching, a core skill used by the military around the world. One of the tests the army normally gives to soldiers is a 12-mile ruck, which they must complete within three hours while carrying a weight of at least 35 pounds.
The reason why rucking is growing in popularity is that it’s an easy and all-body exercise. One study in 2019 showed that 10 weeks of weighted walking improved physical performance. Since rucking is usually performed outdoors, there is no doubt that it’s also good for your mental health. Lots of studies suggest that the mental health benefits of being in a natural environment are huge.
There are several tips for your rucking when you get started. First, don’t be too eager. As with any new exercise, you’ll need to begin slowly. Start with an empty backpack (背包) and walk a distance you’ve already done. When you start adding weight to your pack, try something low, like 10% of your body weight. Adding weight is going to put more stress on your ankles, knees, hips and back, so do it gradually. Another option is to start with a weighted vest (背心) instead of a backpack. This spreads the weight between your front and back. And of course, don’t forget your feet. Select a comfortable pair of shoes to prevent getting hurt.
40.What is rucking?(no more than 6 words)
41.Why is rucking popular? (no more than 6 words)
42.Where is rucking usually performed? (no more than 1 word)
43.What is your favorite exercise? And explain why.(about 40 words)
40.Walking with weight on your back. 41.It’s an easy and all-body exercise. 42.Outdoors. 43.My favorite exercise is running because it not only helps me keep fit but also allows me to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Running is a great way to relieve stress and improve my mood.
根据第二段“Rucking is walking with weight on your back.(徒步就是背着重物走路。)” Walking with weight on your back.
根据第三段“The reason why rucking is growing in popularity is that it’s an easy and all-body exercise.(蹦蹦跳跳越来越受欢迎的原因是它是一种简单的全身运动。)” It’s an easy and all-body exercise.
根据第三段“Since rucking is usually performed outdoors, there is no doubt that it’s also good for your mental health.(因为徒步通常是在户外进行的,毫无疑问,它对你的心理健康也有好处。)”
My favorite exercise is running because it not only helps me keep fit but also allows me to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Running is a great way to relieve stress and improve my mood.(开放性试题,言之有理即可)

Olympic Games organizers in France presented the 2024 Olympic torch that will light the Summer Games in the country a year from now. In the Olympic torch tradition, many people carry the torch in turn from Greece to the current location of the Games. After it has traveled thousands of kilometers. The torch will light the Olympic cauldron(火炬台)at the Opening Ceremony of the next Olympic Games.
French designer Mathieu Lehanneur created the torch. which is 70 centimeters long and made of lightweight steel. Lehanneur said its shape is inspired by the famous Seine River, which flows through Paris. He said the torch is equal from top to bottom and all around the middle, which stands for equality between athletes. The twisting shape of the torch represents peace.
The torch was made with lightweight steel. Its lower half copies the movement of the Seine, along which the opening ceremony will take place for over 500,000 viewers.
Lehanneur said he wants the torch to represent the kind of event that Paris 2024 hopes to be. “I wanted to move away from the torch appearing as an object of conquest,”Lehanneur said. He also told reporters that designing the torch was much more technical than he thought it would be. “The magic is not the torch itself, but the flame,” Lehanneur said.
The torch will be lit up in Olympia, Greece on April 16, 2024, followed by a nine day torch relay before sailing across the Mediterranean Sea from Athens to Marseille in France on May 8. It will then pass through several important places, which include Strasbourg, the Pantheon in Paris, the Mont Saint-Michel and multiple French territories.

A.Practice makes perfect. B.Nothing seek, nothing find.
C.Put your heart into exercise. D.Act according to your abilities.

Tony Estanguet, the Paris 2024 chief, said that the torch is very, very beautiful. He also said, “It is very pure. It’s perfectly balanced in the hand.”

C.He thinks highly of the torch’s appearance. D.Designing the torch is harder than he thinks.
26.How long will it take the torch to travel from Greece to France?
A.Fifteen days. B.Twenty two days.
C.Nine days. D.Eight days.
27.What is Tony Estanguet’s attitude to the torch?
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Doubtful. D.Intolerant.

A.Practice makes perfect. B.Nothing seek, nothing find.
C.Put your heart into exercise. D.Act according to your abilities.
