B Hearing from an old friend you’ve lost touch with can be a pleasant surprise, and reviving (使恢复) those old friendships can be extremely fulfilling, but we often hesitate to initiate those reconnections. Now psychologists from Simon Fraser University and the University of Sussex have pulled a rabbit out of the hat. They recommend making some preparations — by practising in advance. They gathered almost 2,500 participants who were divided into two groups. The first group spent three minutes writing messages to current friends, while the second group spent three minutes looking through social media. Then, everyone was asked to draft and send a message to an old friend. Over half of the first group ultimately sent the message. Only 31 percent of those in the social media group reached out to an old friend. Why is this such a challenge that we need to practise to overcome? The reason a tie grows inactive is probably that people move away or their interests change, and so they lose track of other people and feel they are just like strangers. Sending messages directly to “a stranger” is hard and discouraging, but if you send messages to current friends, and then change the recipient’s name to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, hitting send will become easier. Peggy, a psychologist at the University of Pittsburgh, found that we tend to underestimate how much other people in our lives appreciate us reaching out. “So for the recipients, when they’re reached out to, those feelings of surprise really strengthen that appreciation. People fear that the other person has no desire to reconnect, but if you did reach out, you’d be surprised by how excited people would be to reconnect.” But such reconnection might contribute to keeping up with old friends on a surface level. Fully reactivating an old friendship calls for something extra: a phone call or a face-to-face interaction, giving immediate response. 24.Why was the first group asked to contact current friends before messaging old ones? A.To revive their interests. B.To bring familiarity back. C.To build up deeper bonds. D.To practise hitting send. 25.What is Peggy’s attitude to the results of people’s reaching out? A.Optimistic. B.Curious. C.Understanding. D.Respectful. 26.What is the author’s advice in the end? A.Reactivating friendships with friends. B.Visiting friends in person instead of calling them. C.Talking in real time for deeper ties. D.Getting in touch with friends on a surface level. 27.Which is the best title for the text? A.Prepare to See Friends Online B.Send a Message to Old Friends C.Practise the Art of Friendship More D.Warm Up to Reconnect with Friends C Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t“ became my state of mind in all things related to math. However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class. Mr. A always greeted us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student. I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A.We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes. Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” 28.What does the word “aversion” underlined in paragraph 1 probably mean? A.interest. B.preference. C.misunderstanding. D.dislike. 29.What first made the author look forward to math class? A.Mr. A’s attitude. B.Her interest in math. C.Her friends’ encouragement. D.The top achievers in her class. 30.How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A? A.It was straight. B.It was efficient. C.It was challenging. D.It was impressive. D The call to “know yourself” has been there since ancient times, but our sense of self doesn’t always match what others perceive. Considering the stories we tell about ourselves can help us to change our minds for better. For many years, psychologists saw identity as a combination of someone’s values, beliefs, goals and social roles. Then, in the 1980s, Bob Johnson created the life story model of identity, in which he proposes that, as we go through life, these core features are built in with our memories to create a personal story through which we understand our lives. Our life story is something that starts coming together in our teenage years, when we begin to organise our lives into chapters around key events or life changes, and begin to see ourselves as both the central character and, to a varying extent, the story’s author. People with more consistent stories tend to have a stronger sense of identity, and they feel their life has more meaning, direction and sense of purpose. Such people show greater overall life satisfaction, too. Johnson has also investigated the link between well-being and certain story themes. He discovered that whether someone describes having had some control over events in their past is an important predictor of a person’s mental health. Another key theme involves finding some kind of positive meaning after stressful events. “People could talk about gaining knowledge or personal growth,” says Johnson. His research shows that this is often missing for people with mental health conditions. The good news is that there is evidence we can learn to change our own story. Lisa Green, another researcher, sounds a few notes of caution (谨慎). For instance, hearing about the power of redemptive (拯救性的) stories, many people may feel forced to find a positive angle on horrible events. She says that Western culture already pushes people to look for the silver lining behind every cloud. If you want to turn over a new leaf, though, one top tip is that it helps to choose a significant date that signals the start of a new “chapter”. Contrary to popular doubt, resolutions made on I January are more effective for this reason. So, whether your goal is saving money or getting fit, there is no better time to become the author of our own destiny (命运). 31.What can be inferred about personal stories? A.They are unrelated to health. B.Consistent ones lead to stress. C.They are relevant to happiness. D.Thematic ones hold back change. 32.What can we learn from this passage? A.Talking about gains from failure is negative. B.New Year resolutions are well received. C.The West tends to overvalue optimism. D.Social roles fail to be highlighted. 33.What does the author mainly do in this passage? A.Clarify a goal. B.Analyse an event. C.Make a comparison. D.Illustrate an approach. 34.What is the passage mainly about? A.How self-identity works. B.How story-tellers are made. C.How personal stories raise doubts. D.How timing affects personal identity. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Six Tips for Freshmen Starting college can be a stressful experience. It introduces a lot of big changes in your life. Here are six tips for freshmen. 1. 35 Of all the tips for college, this one might be the most practical. Make sure to consider what use at home on a daily or weekly basis, and take a look at what a college student has suggested you bring! 2. Be comfortable being on your own. 36 The tasks for which you once relied on your parents are now your responsibility, so it is important that you come to school knowing basic skills, how to do laundry, and how to follow a routine. 3. Have an idea of what you want to study. Declaring your major immediately upon getting accepted into college is not life or death. 37 Internships(实习期) are also a great way to dip your toes in the water and find out whether or not you are interested in a certain career. 4. Put yourself out there. For those who struggle to make friends, finding people who you share interests with is always a good place to start. Joining a local club or activity that you enjoy can help you to meet new people that like the same things that you do. 5. Practice good habits. Being away from home and the structure of middle school for the first time causes many college freshmen to form bad habits. 38 These will help ensure you stay in good health and make your college experience much smoother. 6. 39 Budgeting(预算) can be a very simple way to understand and monitor your spending habits. A simple spreadsheet with your monthly expenses and income is a great way to start listing your spending. A.Learn to manage your finances. B.Make sure to take classes that interest you. C.Making good friend is very important in college. D.Know what things you need for a college dorm. E.Establish a healthy system, and eat a balanced diet. F.You could do a part time job to earn more money. G.In most cases, college is the first time that you will be completely on your own. 第三部分 书面表达(共两节, 32分) 第一节(共4小题; 第40、41题各2分, 第42题3分, 第43题5分, 共12分) 阅读下面短文, 根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。 A Schoolyard Garden Have you ever eaten something that you grew in your own garden? Many people have not had the pleasure of this experience. Alice Waters, the owner of a restaurant, set out to change all that for a special group of students at a middle school. Waters worked with the school’s principal to create a cooking and gardening program at the school. Waters believes in the importance of people knowing where their food comes from. She also believes that there is a strong relationship between food, health, and the environment. Her goal at the middle school was to show children the pleasure in gardening and in preparing the foods that they cultivated. She wanted to teach them that a healthy body and a healthy environment go hand in hand. The project that Waters began took a lot of time and patience. She relied on the help of teachers, students, and community volunteers to turn a parking lot into a garden. At the same time, renovation was begun to turn an old cafeteria into a kitchen where students could prepare foods and share meals with their teachers. Then, the first usable crops were planted. They included various vegetables. In the following year they brought the addition of plants. Every year since then, new crops are added and old crops are evaluated to make sure that they are best suited for the environment and the needs of the school. Students have found that they look forward to the time they spend in the garden each week. They have learned how to weed, prune, and harvest. They have learned about the life cycles of various plants. They also know how to enrich the soil through composting, a process in which leftover scraps of fruits and vegetables are used as fertilizer. Many have discovered that they like fruits and vegetables that they had never before been willing to try. Alice Waters dreams that one day there will be a garden in every school. She hopes that school lunches can be prepared using the produce from the gardens and other locally-grown organic produce. 40.Why did Waters create this gardening and cooking program in the school? ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 41.What preparation(s) did they make before the project? ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why. A.Prepare to See Friends Online B.Send a Message to Old Friends C.Practise the Art of Friendship More D.Warm Up to Reconnect with Friends 【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了如何通过预热和练习来重新与老朋友建立联系。 24.推理判断题。由文章第三段中“Sending messages directly to “a stranger” is hard and discouraging, but if you send messages to current friends, and then change the recipient’s name to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, hitting send will become easier. (直接给“陌生人”发信息很难且令人沮丧,但如果你先给现在的朋友发信息,然后把收件人的名字改成你很久没联系的人,点击发送就会变得更容易)”可知,因此,第一组被要求在给老朋友发信息之前先联系现在的朋友是为了找回熟悉感。故选B。 25.推理判断题。由文章第四段“Peggy, a psychologist at the University of Pittsburgh, found that we tend to underestimate how much other people in our lives appreciate us reaching out. “So for the recipients, when they’re reached out to, those feelings of surprise really strengthen that appreciation. People fear that the other person has no desire to reconnect, but if you did reach out, you’d be surprised by how excited people would be to reconnect.” (匹兹堡大学的心理学家佩吉发现,我们往往低估了生活中其他人对我们伸出援手的感激程度。“所以对于接受者来说,当他们被伸出手时,那些惊喜的感觉真的会加强这种感激之情。人们担心对方没有重新联系的愿望,但如果你真的联系了,你会惊讶地发现人们对重新联系的兴奋程度。”)”可推知,佩吉对人们主动联系的结果持乐观态度。故选A。 26.推理判断题。由文章最后一段中“Fully reactivating an old friendship calls for something extra: a phone call or a face-to-face interaction, giving immediate response. (完全恢复旧友谊需要额外的东西:一个电话或一次面对面的互动,立即做出回应)”可推知,作者最后的建议是为了更深的联系而实时交谈。故选C。 27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段中“Hearing from an old friend you’ve lost touch with can be a pleasant surprise, and reviving (使恢复) those old friendships can be extremely fulfilling, but we often hesitate to initiate those reconnections. Now psychologists from Simon Fraser University and the University of Sussex have pulled a rabbit out of the hat. (收到一个失去联系的老朋友的来信可能是一个惊喜,恢复那些旧友谊会让人非常满足,但我们经常犹豫是否要重新建立这些联系。现在,西蒙弗雷泽大学和苏塞克斯大学的心理学家们从帽子里变出了一只兔子)”和第二段中“They recommend making some preparations — by practising in advance. (他们建议做一些准备——提前练习)”可知,文章主要讲述了心理学家们建议通过提前练习来准备与老朋友重新联系,并解释了为什么这样做以及如何做。由此可知,最好的标题是“Warm Up to Reconnect with Friends (热身以与朋友重新联系)”。故选D。 C Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. 【答案】28.D 29.A 30.D 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了作者不擅长数学,并且厌恶数学,但大一时A老师让作者改变了态度,于是成绩开始慢慢上升。 28.词句猜测题。根据第一段“Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student.(从中学开始,我就不擅长数学。高中的课程越来越难,我离数学老师理想中的学生更远了)”可知,作者不擅长数学,而高中的数学课很难,所以上大学以后,作者不喜欢数学。故划线词意思是“不喜欢”。故选D。 29.细节理解题。根据第三段“Mr. A always greeted us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day.( A老师总是张开双臂欢迎我们,他说:“欢迎!微笑!活着真是太棒了!”很明显,A老师不仅对数学很有热情,而且对教学也很有热情。如果A老师在生活中经历过糟糕的日子,他从来没有表现出来。A先生每天都用同样的微笑迎接我们)”可知,A老师的态度首先让作者期待上数学课。故选A。 30.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes.(我的同学们也开始这样做,和A老师一起吃午饭聊天变得很“酷”,我们当时并不知道,但他正在改变我们的态度)”可知,作者对她与A老师共进午餐的谈话印象深刻。故选D。 D The call to “know yourself” has been there since ancient times, but our sense of self doesn’t always match what others perceive. 【答案】31.C 32.C 33.D 34.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了个人故事与自我认同、幸福感之间的关系及如何改变个人故事。 31.细节理解题。根据第三段中“People with more consistent stories tend to have a stronger sense of identity, and they feel their life has more meaning, direction and sense of purpose. Such people show greater overall life satisfaction, too. (拥有更一致故事的人往往有更强的身份认同感,他们觉得自己的生活更有意义、更有方向、更有目标感。这样的人总体上对生活的满意度也更高。)”可知,个人故事与幸福感相关。故选C。 32.推理判断题。根据第五段中“She says that Western culture already pushes people to look for the silver lining behind every cloud.  (她说,西方文化已经促使人们在每一片乌云背后寻找一线希望。)”可推知,西方倾向于过度重视乐观主义。故选C。 33.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“The call to “know yourself” has been there since ancient times, but our sense of self doesn’t always match what others perceive. Considering the stories we tell about ourselves can help us to change our minds for better. (“认识你自己”这一呼吁自古便有,但我们对自己的认知并不总是与他人对我们的看法相吻合。思考我们讲述的关于自己的故事,能帮助我们以更好的方式改变自己的想法。)”和第二段中“Then, in the 1980s, Bob Johnson created the life story model of identity, in which he proposes that, as we go through life, these core features are built in with our memories to create a personal story through which we understand our lives. (然后,在20世纪80年代,鲍勃·约翰逊创造了身份的生活故事模型,他提出,在我们的一生中,这些核心特征与我们的记忆一起构建了一个个人故事,我们通过这个故事来理解我们的生活。)”以及第四段中“Johnson has also investigated the link between well-being and certain story themes. (约翰逊还研究了幸福感与某些故事主题之间的联系。)”可推知,文章主要阐述了个人故事与自我认同、幸福感之间的关系,并举例说明了如何通过改变个人故事来影响自我认同和幸福感,因此作者主要是在阐述一种方法。故选D。 34.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“The call to “know yourself” has been there since ancient times, but our sense of self doesn’t always match what others perceive. (约翰逊还研究了幸福感与某些故事主题之间的联系。)”可推知,全文围绕“个人生活故事如何构建自我认知并影响幸福感”展开,分析了其形成、作用及相关研究。“How self-identity works. (自我认同是如何运作的。)”符合文意。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Six Tips for Freshmen Starting college can be a stressful experience. A simple spreadsheet with your monthly expenses and income is a great way to start listing your spending.(预算是了解和监控自己消费习惯的一种非常简单的方法。用一个简单的电子表格列出你每月的支出和收入是列出你的支出的好方法。)”可知,本段讲述了有关制定预算的建议,因此推断A项“学会管理你的财务状况。”为本段标题。故选A。 第三部分 书面表达(共两节, 32分) 第一节(共4小题; 第40、41题各2分, 第42题3分, 第43题5分, 共12分) 阅读下面短文, 根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。 A Schoolyard Garden Have you ever eaten something that you grew in your own garden? ___________________________________________________________________________________________42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
