No one can remember everything, but everyone can learn how to improve their memory. Here are some tips. None of them can make your memory 100% perfect, but all of them are helpful.
When you want to remember something, tell a friend about it. In this way, the new information becomes more memorable (难忘的). Later on, think about the conversation with your friend. It will remind you of the information you wanted to remember before.
Don’t over-train your brain. When you’ve remembered a list of new vocabulary, stop studying. It's better to study a lot of material for a small amount of time than a small amount of material for a lot of time. But remember: you do have to practice your new vocabulary regularly. Our memory works well when we sleep. If you want to remember something, go to sleep at once after learning it.
If you have to remember something big, break it down into smaller sections. It’s easier to remember 198756430387 if you break it into four smaller bits: 198-756-430-387.
If you want to remember a piece of information but you can’t, don’t get angry. Relax and tell yourself, “If it’s important, I will remember it later.”
One of the best ways of remembering is to make “pictures” on the “movie screen” of your mind. Experts say that our brain works a lot better in pictures. So sometimes, if we want to remember new information, it helps to make a picture. Anyone can learn to do this.
27. What can you do if you want to remember something?
A. Tell someone about it. B. Turn it into big sections.
C. Get angry about it. D. Stop remembering it.
28. What should you do when you’ve remembered a list of new vocabulary?
A. Continue remembering it. B. Just stop studying.
C. Make a picture story. D. Talk with a friend.
29. How can help your brain work better?
A. By telling yourself to remember later.
B. By reminding yourself of the information.
C. By studying much material for much time.
D. By making “pictures” on your mind’s “movie screen”.
30. What’s the best title for the passage?
A. Suggestions to train the brain B. Suggestions to create pictures
C. Ways to improve memory D. Ways to make perfect memory

In ancient China, willow branches (柳枝) were often used as a gift to friends or family members who would leave. Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of saying goodbye?
One reason is that the willow trees are strong. They can live in any soil (土壤), wet or dry, north or south. Because of this special feature, when saying goodbye to loved ones, giving a willow branch is a way to tell them that you hope they will easily get used to their new living places.
Another reason is that, in Chinese, the pronunciation for the willow tree “柳” is similar to the character “留”. So giving a willow branch in ancient China was like asking others to stay, even though you know that they must leave.
It is said that the custom became popular in Han dynasty. At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang’an, today’s Xi’an, was a common place to say goodbye. People often stopped there and gave willow branches to people who were going to depart.
Willow branches, as a symbol of saying goodbye, were often mentioned in poems, especially at the time of Tang and Song dynasties.

C. Make a picture story. D. Talk with a friend.
