How to Organize Kids Craft Tools With a Fun DIY Pegboard
If you are a parent, you know the tiring truth. Markers without caps (笔盖) are hiding under the sofa. Glitter (亮片) is all over the carpet. When your child wants to make a masterpiece, they can never find the glue! The number one problem with craft time is the huge mess it leaves behind. Now, it’s time to build a homework and craft station—a pegboard.
Materials List
Head to your local hardware store (五金店) for these basic objects.
·One Pegboard sheet (2 foot by 4 foot size works great)
·Two 1×2 pine wood boards
·One box of 2-inch wood screws
·One can of low-VOC paint (Pick your kid’s favourite colour!)
·Tools Needed: Tape, level, drill (电钻), and a paintbrush
A pegboard can
·save space: using empty walls keeps desks and floors completely clear of clutter (杂物).
·grow with you: you can move hooks and cups around easily as your child gets older and needs different objects.
·teach independence (独立): kids can put things where they belong by themselves, making cleanup time fast and easy.
16. What do you need to make a pegboard?
A. Some markers. B. 3-inch wood screws.
C. Low-VOC paint. D. Glue.
17. Where can you put a pegboard?
A. On the floor. B. On the desk.
C. Under the sofa. D. On the walls.
18. Where can you possibly read this passage?
A. In a magazine. B. In a textbook.
C. In instructions. D. In a storybook.

With the announcement (宣布) of the 2026 Fields Medal (often seen as the Nobel Prize in maths), the name “Wang Hong” became known to the public.
Wang Hong was born in 1991 in Guangxi. Her parents were teachers, and her father taught maths. When she was five or six years old, Wang got some primary school maths textbooks. There were “Think About It” brainteasers (谜题). One of them asked: If you have seven trees and every three trees in a line count as a group, what is the maximum (最大值) number of groups you can make?
She quickly worked out the answer and felt excited. From that moment on, she fell in love with maths. She wanted to know everything about this subject. “Fun” and “interesting” are the words Wang Hong repeatedly used when talking about her first meeting with maths.
Was Wang Hong a “prodigy”? Yes, she was. She could learn everything much faster than other kids. Before primary school, she taught herself all of the first-grade lessons. So when she entered school, she went straight into the second grade. Later, she went past the sixth grade and directly entered middle school. By her final year of high school, she was in the top 10 students, and at the age of 16, she got into Peking University.
It’s inspiring that Wang Hong is the first female (女性的) Chinese mathematician and the third female mathematician to win the Fields Medal.
19. What made Wang Hong become interested in maths?
A. Her father's job as a Maths teacher. B. Her wish to win the Fields Medal.
C. Some books she got at a young age. D. The feeling of solving a maths problem.
20. Which of the following words can best describe Wang Hong?
A. Smart and curious. B. Hard-working and energetic.
C. Patient and brave. D. Cheerful and honest.
21. What does the underlined word “prodigy” mean?
A. A student who is good at studying all subjects.
B. A teacher who teaches Maths.
C. A child who is very clever from an early age.
D. A person who is quite famous.

If you feel stressed (有压力的) at school, how can you make yourself feel better? Some may eat their favorite food or listen to music. Others do exercise. A new study found another great way to reduce stress—playing with dogs.
This study was carried out (实施) by researchers from the University of Lincoln in the UK, led by Professor Kerstin Meints. The team’s purpose was to find out if playing with trained dogs could help primary school kids reduce stress at school.
Scientists studied 105 students aged eight to nine. 35 trained dogs and their trainers also took part in the test. The scientists put the children into 3 groups. The first group spent 20 minutes every day with a dog and its trainer. They watched the dogs do tricks and played with them. They did this for 4 weeks. The second group spent the same amount of time doing exercise to relax. The last group did nothing.
During this time, the scientists recorded the students’ cortisol levels The more stressed you feel, the more cortisol you will have in your body. What did the scientists find? Both the second and third groups showed rises in cortisol levels. However, the children in the first group had the lowest cortisol levels of all the three groups after playing with the dogs.
Now students enjoy playing with dogs and it helps them become happier. But here comes the next question: Is 20 minutes of playtime with a dog the best amount of time? Scientists will study to find the answer.
22. Why does the writer ask the question in Paragraph 1?
A. To surprise the readers. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To ask for answers. D. To show his feeling.
23. Which of the following pictures shows the change in cortisol levels of students in the first group? (x= time; y= cortisol levels)
A. B. C. D.
24. What can we infer from the text?
A. Keeping dogs at school can help students stay happy every day.
B. If students play with dogs longer than 20 minutes, they will be much happier.
C. Children in the first group had the lowest cortisol levels after playing with dogs.
D. Playing with dogs is a better way to reduce stress than doing exercise in a short time.
25. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. How do people stay happy in daily life? B. What do scientists do with cortisol levels?
C. How do dogs reduce children’s stress? D. Why do children like keeping dogs?
D
Monday mornings were a terrible thing for Tom. They always meant one thing: a new week of school, and Tom hated school. This morning, he thought about how he might avoid going to class. Then an idea came to him.
“Oh! Sid!” he cried, “Oh, it hurts! I think I’m dying, Sid!” Sid, who already (已经) got up and was dressing for school, stopped what he was doing and ran over to Tom’s bed.

“That won’t kill you either! But let me take a look. Open your mouth. Well, your tooth is loose. Mary! Bring me some string and a piece of burning wood from the stove!”
“Please, Aunt Polly! Don’t pull out my tooth! I’m feeling much better now. See? I can get up and go to school after all!”

In a Chinese class, the teacher read an old poem to students, “The ring of the bell reached the boat at midnight.” Then he stopped, and asked, “How could the sound travel so far?”
Well, that’s not a normal question in a Chinese class. But for “no-boundary classes” at Luwan Middle School in Shanghai, it is quite normal. In such classes, teachers work together and teach different kinds of knowledge in one class. The school has organized about 60 such classes. “We hope students can better understand science,” said He Li, headmaster of the school.
What subjects could go together? The school lets teachers decide. They have tried putting physics and music, physics and Chinese, and physics and chemistry together.
To that question asked by the Chinese teacher, a physics teacher sitting near him gave the answer to help students understand the scientific reason behind a Chinese poem.
“It was so interesting!” said Wang Yinkai, 14, from the school. “We didn’t think about any relationship between these subjects. But now in such classes, we can think differently.”
Li Zhiyuan, 14, said that these classes also help students make more friends. “We often do both chemistry and physics experiments in one class,” said Li. “It’s quite possible that you’re good at one subject but not the other. So we need each other’s help.”

1. It’s our duty to protect ________ environment of the school, or we will live in ________ mess.
A. /; a B. the; / C. the; a D. /; /
第一空后environment有of the school修饰,表特指,故用定冠词the;第二空in a mess为固定短语,意为“混乱”,故用不定冠词a。
2. Max, ________ scrolling TikTok! It’s not time to relax ________ yet!
A. stop; yourself B. stops; yourselves C. stop; yourselves D. stops; yourself
【答案】A
3. The government ________ much money for this school in order ________ support children’s growth.
A. offers; that B. provides; to C. offers; to D. provides; that
根据“much money for this school”可知,provide sth. for sb.表示“为某人提供某物”;根据“support children’s growth”可知,此处表示目的,应用in order to do sth.,应填provides; to。
4. —There are only ________ days before the sports meeting. I can't wait!
—Me, too. I'm looking forward to ________ for my class already.
A. a few; cheer B. a little; cheer C. a little; cheering D. a few; cheering
days是可数名词复数,应用a few修饰,排除B、C;第二空,look forward to doing sth.
5. —I can’t believe we have been back to school for more than a month.
—________! We had better make good use of our time.
A. How time flies B. I hope so C. That’s true D. Sounds great
【答案】A
How time flies时间过得真快啊;I hope so我希望如此;That’s true那是真的;Sounds great听起来不错。

B 23. C 24. D 25. C
