Guide students to establish a connection between hobbies and dream jobs.
Enable students to accurately express their hobbies and dream jobs in English.
2. Teaching Difficult Points
How to lead students to deeply think about the internal relationship between hobbies and dream jobs, not just a superficial correspondence.
Help students use correct logical structures and rich vocabulary to elaborate on their views in speaking and writing.
1. Vocabulary
Hobbies: painting, dancing, singing, reading, playing basketball, playing the piano, etc.
Jobs: artist, dancer, singer, writer, doctor, teacher, engineer, scientist, etc.
Others: hobby, dream, job, because, want, hope, wish
2. Sentence Patterns
My hobby is + V - ing. For example, “My hobby is reading.”
I like + V - ing. For example, “I like dancing.”
My dream job is to be a/an + job. For example, “My dream job is to be a doctor.”
I want to be a/an + job because + reason. For example, “I want to be a teacher because I like to help students.”
教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of people doing different activities (such as painting, playing football, reading books) on the PPT. Then ask students: “What are they doing? Do you like these activities?” Encourage students to answer in English. This step aims to arouse students' interest and quickly engage them in the English - learning atmosphere, and also review some related words they may have learned before.
2. New Words Teaching (10 minutes)
Present new words about hobbies and jobs one by one on the PPT. For each word, show a vivid picture related to it. For example, when teaching “artist,” show a picture of an artist painting. Read the word aloud, ask students to follow and repeat several times, and pay attention to the pronunciation.
Explain the meaning of each word briefly. Then, use the new words to make simple sentences on the blackboard, like “My hobby is painting. I hope to be an artist in the future.” Let students understand how to use these words in context.
After teaching all the words, play a “Word Relay” game. Divide students into groups. The first student in each group says a new word, and the next student has to say a different new word starting with the last letter of the previous word. This can help students remember the new words better.
3. Key Sentence Patterns Teaching (10 minutes)
Write two key sentence patterns on the blackboard: “My hobby is... and my dream job is...” and “I like... so I want to be a/an...”. Read them aloud and ask students to repeat.
Explain the structure and usage of these two sentence patterns. For example, in the pattern “My hobby is... and my dream job is...”, “My hobby is” is followed by an activity (V - ing form), and “my dream job is” is followed by a job title.
Do substitution drills. Provide different hobbies and jobs on the PPT. For example, show “swimming” and “lifeguard.” Then ask students to make sentences according to the patterns, like “My hobby is swimming and my dream job is to be a lifeguard.” or “I like swimming so I want to be a lifeguard.” Invite several students to answer and correct their mistakes in time.
4. Listening Practice (8 minutes)
Tell students that they will listen to a dialogue between two students about their hobbies and dream jobs. Before playing the recording, write some simple questions on the blackboard, such as “What is the boy's hobby?”, “What does the girl want to be?”
Play the recording for the first time. Let students listen carefully and try to answer the questions briefly.
Play the recording again. This time, ask students to listen more carefully and fill in a form on the handout. The form includes columns like “Name,” “Hobby,” “Reason for Hobby,” “Dream Job,” “Reason for Dream Job.”
Check the answers with the whole class and explain some difficult points in the dialogue if there are any.
5. Speaking Practice (7 minutes)
Divide students into pairs. Each pair uses the learned sentence patterns to talk about their hobbies and dream jobs. They should also ask each other why they have such hobbies and dream jobs. For example, A: “What's your hobby?” B: “My hobby is reading books. What about you?” A: “My hobby is playing basketball. What's your dream job?” B: “My dream job is to be a writer because I like to create stories. And you?” A: “I want to be a basketball player because I am good at it.”
Walk around the classroom, listen to their conversations, and give guidance and encouragement. Correct students' pronunciation, grammar, or inappropriate expressions in time.
6. Summary (3 minutes)
Summarize the key points of this lesson with students, including new words, sentence patterns, and the main content of the listening material.
Write the important words and sentence patterns on the blackboard again to reinforce students' memory.
7. Homework Assignment (2 minutes)
Ask students to write a short passage about their hobbies and dream jobs, using at least three new words and two key sentence patterns they learned today.
Tell students to prepare to share their passages in the next class.
教学反思
In this class, the use of pictures and real - life - related topics in the warming - up and new words teaching stages effectively attracted students' attention and motivated their interest in learning. However, in the future, more diverse multimedia resources such as short videos can be used to make the presentation more vivid.
During the sentence pattern teaching, the substitution drills were helpful for students to master the usage of sentence patterns. But some students still had difficulty in using the correct verb forms. In the next class, more targeted exercises on verb forms in these sentence patterns are needed.
In the listening practice, the pre - listening questions and form - filling tasks guided students to listen actively. However, for some students with weak listening skills, the speed of the recording was a bit fast. In the future, more listening materials with different speeds can be provided for stratified teaching.
The pair - work in the speaking practice provided students with opportunities to communicate in English. But some students were still a little shy to speak. More encouragement and positive feedback should be given to build their confidence in speaking English.
