Unit 2 Festivals and holidays Lesson 4 The Dragon Boat Festival 教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will master vocabulary related to the Dragon Boat Festival (e.g., zongzi, dragon boat race, poet, respect) and understand the passage about the Dragon Boat Festival and a trip to celebrate it. Students will be able to comprehend the passage, answer questions, complete tables, match festivals with activities, and write about their favourite festival. 2. Ability Objectives Improve reading and writing skills: Extract information from the passage to complete tasks and write about a favourite festival. Enhance speaking and collaborative skills: Discuss festival activities with partners and share favourite festival writings. 3. Affective Objectives Deepen students' understanding of the Dragon Boat Festival, help them appreciate the cultural significance of remembering Qu Yuan and traditional customs, and encourage them to explore and love Chinese traditional festivals. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key Vocabulary & Phrases Dragon Boat Festival - related words: zongzi, dragon boat race, poet, respect Key phrases: pay respect to, traditional food 2. Key Sentence Patterns Introducing the Dragon Boat Festival: “The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday. It's on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.” Talking about festival activities: “My family made the traditional food zongzi together with the local people in Yichang.” “We watched the dragon boat race.” 3. Key and Challenging Points Key Points: Understand the passage about the Dragon Boat Festival, master related vocabulary and phrases, and complete reading and writing tasks. Challenging Points: Writing about a favourite festival with clear structure and detailed content. III. Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warm - up & Lead - in Activity: Picture Guessing Show students pictures related to the Dragon Boat Festival and ask: “Look at the pictures and guess what the people are doing.” Let students share their guesses. Step 2: Reading & Comprehension Activity 1: Passage Reading and Question Answering Have students read the passage and answer questions: “When is the Dragon Boat Festival?”, “Where is Qu Yuan's hometown?”. Check answers to ensure students grasp the main content of the passage. Activity 2: Information Extraction for Table Completion Ask students to read the passage again and complete the table with places and corresponding activities. Step 3: Festival - Activity Matching & Writing Activity 1: Festival - Activity Matching Ask students to match the festivals (Double Ninth Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid - Autumn Festival, Tomb - sweeping Day, Spring Festival) with the correct activities. Activity 2: Favourite Festival Writing Guide students to write about their favourite festival, using the helpful questions: “When is this festival?”, “What is the origin of this festival?”, “What traditional foods do people eat?”, “What are the activities during this festival?”, “Why do you like this festival?”. Step 4: Discussion & Sharing Activity: Favourite Festival Sharing Ask students to share their written favourite festival passages with partners. Then invite some students to share with the whole class. Step 5: Summary & Homework Activity 1: Lesson Summary Recap key vocabulary and phrases (Dragon Boat Festival - related terms), the content about the Dragon Boat Festival, and the structure of writing about a favourite festival. Activity 2: Homework Assignment Assign homework: (1) Polish the favourite festival writing and share with family. (2) Collect pictures or stories about the Dragon Boat Festival and share in the next class. IV.
