教学过程
A. Warming-up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of different animals on the PPT, such as lions, zebras, monkeys, etc. and ask students to describe these animals briefly in English, like "It's a lion. It's big and strong."
Then ask a question: "Do you think different animals can live together? Why or why not?" Let students discuss in pairs for about 1 minute and then invite some pairs to share their opinions.
B. Presentation (15 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Show pictures of a rhino and an egret on the PPT and teach the new words "rhino" and "egret". Let students repeat the words several times to ensure correct pronunciation.
Use the pictures to explain the meaning of "skin", "team" etc. For example, point to the rhino's thick skin and say "This is the rhino's skin." And show the picture of the rhino and the egret together and say "They are a good team."
Teach other new words and phrases like "stay healthy", "make sounds", "dangerous", "scare", "insect" through pictures, actions or simple explanations. For "scare", the teacher can suddenly make a loud noise to scare the students a little and then say "I scare you. Scare means to make someone feel afraid."
Text Teaching
Let students listen to the text recording of "The rhino and the egret" for the first time. While listening, ask them to close their eyes and just get a general idea of the story.
After listening, ask students some simple questions, like "What animals are mentioned in the story?" to check their understanding.
Then let students read the text silently for a second time. This time, ask them to underline the sentences that show how the rhino and the egret help each other.
Invite students to share the sentences they underlined. Write these key sentences on the blackboard:
"The egret cleans the rhino's skin to help it stay healthy."
"It also makes sounds to tell the rhino about dangerous things nearby."
"The rhino helps the egret get food. It scares small insects in the grass, and the egret eats them."
Explain the sentence patterns one by one. For "One... the other...", give more examples like "I have two pens. One is red and the other is blue." And for "let sb. do sth.", change the sentence "The rhino lets the egret sit on its back." into different situations, such as "My mother lets me watch TV on weekends." to help students understand the usage.
C. Practice (15 minutes)
Reading Comprehension Practice
Show some true or false questions on the PPT according to the text, for example:
The rhino and the egret are enemies. (F)
The egret helps the rhino get food. (F)
The rhino's skin is cleaned by the egret to keep healthy. (T)
Let students read the questions and answer them quickly. Then check the answers together and ask students to correct the false statements.
Oral Practice
Divide students into pairs. Give each pair a picture of two different animals (for example, a crocodile and a plover, a hippo and a fish etc.). Let them make up a dialogue about how these two animals might help each other, just like the relationship between the rhino and the egret.
Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance. After 5 minutes, invite some pairs to come to the front of the class and act out their dialogues.
Writing Practice
Ask students to write a short passage about the relationship between the two animals they talked about in the oral practice. They should use at least three new words and two key sentence patterns they learned in this class.
Give students about 5 minutes to write. Then ask several students to read their passages aloud, and give positive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
D. Consolidation (7 minutes)
Review the new words, phrases and sentence patterns together. Ask students to recall and repeat them.
Summarize the main idea of the text, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between the rhino and the egret and how different animals can cooperate in nature.
Show some pictures of other symbiotic animal relationships, such as the clownfish and the sea anemone, and briefly introduce how they help each other. Encourage students to learn more about these interesting animal relationships after class.
E. Homework Assignment (3 minutes)
Ask students to copy the new words and phrases three times and make sentences with them.
Require students to find more information about symbiotic animal relationships and share it with the class next time. They can search for information on the Internet, in books or magazines.
教学反思
After teaching this lesson, I think the overall teaching process went smoothly. The warming - up activity successfully aroused students' interest and engaged them in the class. The use of pictures, recordings and real - life examples in the presentation part helped students understand the new knowledge more easily. In the practice part, students actively participated in the reading, oral and writing activities, which effectively improved their language skills.
However, there are also some areas that need improvement. During the oral practice, some students were a bit shy and not very confident in speaking English. In the future, I should create more relaxed and friendly speaking environments and encourage these students more. Also, in the writing practice, some students still made grammar mistakes when using the new sentence patterns. I need to strengthen grammar teaching and give more targeted exercises in the following classes. Overall, I will continue to adjust my teaching methods according to students' learning situations to make the classes more effective.
