Unit 4 My family-Lesson 5 I love my family! This lesson is from Unit 4 “My family” of the 2024 Hebei Education Press English textbook for Grade 7. It is a reading and speaking lesson mainly about Wang Mei’s introduction to her family. The text first presents basic information about Wang Mei’s family members, such as their names and occupations. For example, her mother is a saleswoman at a supermarket, and her father is a writer. Then, it describes their family activities, like visiting grandparents on weekends and making dumplings together. Through this text, students can learn vocabulary related to family members and occupations, as well as useful sentence patterns for introducing family members. At the same time, they can feel the warmth and love within a family, which helps to cultivate students' positive attitude towards family. 教学目标 1. Knowledge Aims Students can master the vocabulary related to family members, such as mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc., and words about occupations, like saleswoman, writer, policeman, etc. Students are able to understand and use sentence patterns like “This is...”, “She/He is...”, “She/He likes to...”, “I have a...”, and “We all love to...” to introduce family members and their characteristics, hobbies, and family activities. 2. Ability Aims Improve students' reading ability, especially the ability to obtain key information from the text quickly, such as identifying family members' occupations and family activities. Develop students' speaking ability, enabling them to introduce their own families clearly and fluently in English according to the learned patterns and vocabulary. Enhance students' listening ability by listening to dialogues or descriptions about families and catching important details. 3. Emotional Aims Cultivate students' love for their families, making them cherish family relationships and understand the importance of family. Encourage students to actively participate in class activities, enhance their confidence in using English to communicate, and foster a positive attitude towards English learning. 教学重难点 1. Teaching Key Points The correct pronunciation, spelling, and usage of vocabulary related to family members and occupations. Mastering sentence patterns for introducing family members and expressing family relationships and activities, and being able to use them correctly in real - life situations. Understanding the main idea of the reading text about Wang Mei's family and being able to extract key information. 2. Teaching Difficult Points The correct use of possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, our, their) when introducing family members, as students may easily make mistakes in the choice of forms. Using different verb tenses (simple present tense in this case) accurately to describe family members' habits, hobbies, and daily activities. Students may have confusion about verb forms, especially for the third - person singular form (adding -s or -es). Helping students express their own family stories vividly and with rich details using the learned language knowledge, as it requires students to integrate vocabulary, sentence patterns, and their own real - life experiences. 1. Vocabulary Family members: mother (mom), father (dad), sister, brother, grandmother (grandma), grandfather (grandpa), aunt, uncle, cousin, etc. Occupations: saleswoman, writer, policeman, teacher, doctor, driver, etc. Others: family, happy, busy, spend, together, visit, photo, dumpling, care about, one another 2. Sentence Patterns This is my... She/He is my... Her/His name is... She/He is a... She/He likes to... I have a... We all love to... We usually... 3. Grammar Simple present tense: used to describe current situations, habits, and general facts. For the third - person singular (he, she, it), add -s or -es to the verb in most cases. For example, “He works hard.” “She likes reading.” 教学过程 1. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Then, show some pictures of famous families on the PPT, such as the royal family of the UK. Ask students some simple questions like “Do you know this family? Who are they?” to arouse students' interest. Play a short video about a family's daily life. After watching, ask students to share their initial feelings about the video, like “How do you feel about this family? Is it a happy family?” 2. New Words Presentation (10 minutes) Show pictures of different family members on the PPT one by one, and teach the corresponding English words. For example, show a picture of a mother and say “This is a mother. Read after me, mother.” Let students repeat several times, and pay attention to their pronunciation. Use the same way to teach other words about family members. Next, present pictures of people with different occupations. When showing a picture of a saleswoman, say “Look at this lady. She sells things in a supermarket. She is a saleswoman. Read after me.” Teach other occupation - related words in the same manner. Do a quick review game. Flash the pictures on the PPT randomly, and ask students to call out the English words as quickly as possible. Give small rewards to those who answer correctly and quickly. 3. Pre - reading (5 minutes) Present a picture of Wang Mei's family on the PPT and ask students to observe it carefully. Then, ask some prediction questions, such as “How many people are there in Wang Mei's family? What do you think their jobs are?” Let students discuss in pairs and share their predictions. Write some key words on the blackboard, like “Wang Mei”, “family”, “occupation”, “activity”, and tell students that they will find answers related to these words in the following reading. 4. While - reading (15 minutes) Fast Reading Let students read the passage about Wang Mei's family quickly and silently. Then, ask them to answer two general questions: “What is the main idea of this passage?” and “How many family members does Wang Mei introduce?” Give students 2 - 3 minutes to read and answer. Careful Reading Read the passage again with students sentence by sentence. Explain new words and sentence patterns in detail. When teaching “This is my mother. Her name is Guo Yan. She is a saleswoman at a supermarket.”, emphasize the use of “This is...” to introduce someone, and “She is a...” to state the occupation. After explaining each paragraph, ask some detailed questions. For example, after reading the paragraph about Wang Mei's father, ask “What does Wang Mei's father do?” Let students find the answers in the text. Do a fill - in - the - blank exercise on the PPT. Provide a passage with some blanks about the information of Wang Mei's family members, such as their names, occupations, etc. Let students fill in the blanks according to what they have read. 5. Post - reading (5 minutes) Group discussion: Divide students into groups of four or five. Let them discuss the following question: “What do you think makes a happy family? Compare Wang Mei's family with your own family, what are the similarities and differences?” Each group chooses a representative to share their discussion results with the whole class. Role - playing: Ask students to role - play as different members of Wang Mei's family. They need to introduce themselves according to the information in the text. For example, one student acts as Wang Mei's mother and says “Hello, I'm Wang Mei's mother. My name is Guo Yan. I'm a saleswoman at a supermarket.” 6. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary Summarize the key points of this lesson with students, including new vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the main idea of the passage. Ask students to recall and repeat some important words and sentences. Homework Ask students to draw a picture of their own family and write a short passage to introduce their family members, including their names, occupations, and what they like to do. They should use at least five sentences they learned in this class. Ask students to listen to the recording of this passage at home and imitate the pronunciation and intonation. 教学反思 After teaching this lesson, I have the following reflections: Positive aspects The warming - up activities were effective in attracting students' attention and arousing their interest in the topic of family. The pictures and video at the beginning made the class atmosphere more active, and students were willing to participate in the subsequent discussions. The vocabulary teaching with pictures was intuitive, which helped students quickly understand and remember new words. The quick - review game also enhanced students' memory of words in a fun way. In the reading process, the step - by - step guidance of fast reading and careful reading enabled students to gradually master the reading skills and understand the text better. The fill - in - the - blank exercise after reading effectively checked students' understanding of the text details. The group discussion and role - playing activities provided students with opportunities to practice speaking English. Students actively participated in these activities, and their speaking ability was improved to some extent. Also, through group discussion, students deepened their understanding of family happiness and the importance of family. Areas for improvement Although most students participated in the class activities, there were still a few students who were relatively passive. In the future, I need to design more targeted activities to encourage these students to actively participate, such as giving them more simple and easy - to - answer questions at the beginning to build their confidence. In the grammar teaching part, although the simple present tense was involved in the text, the explanation might not be deep enough. Some students still made mistakes in using verb forms when doing the homework. In the next class, I will add some more grammar exercises and explanations to strengthen students' understanding and correct usage of verb tenses. When asking students to introduce their own families, some students' expressions were a bit monotonous. This indicates that I should provide more sentence patterns and vocabulary expansions in class to help students express more vividly. Overall, this lesson achieved most of the teaching goals, but there is still room for improvement. I will continue to adjust and optimize my teaching methods and strategies to better meet the learning needs of students. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
