The way you look is special. Do you know what I mean by that? We all look a little different. Some of us are tall. Some of us are fat. The point is, all of us have our own look—our own face.
Sometimes, we might feel bad about looking different. We might feel like we look ugly or weird (怪异的). But our differences are what makes us special.
I recently watched a speech by a man named Robert Hoge. Hoge was born with a strange-looking face. His mother worried about the difficulties he would face in life.
But Hoge didn’t give up. Strangers would stare at him or even make fun of him. But he didn’t care. He decided to accept his face and feel confident in himself. He has gone on to live an amazing life.
It’s hard when you feel like you don’t look “normal (正常的)” or “perfect (完美的)”. But the truth is, no one is perfect. The important thing to remember is that you are special, no matter what you look like.
56.Which of the following is more important according to the writer?
A.Being tall. B.Being fat.
C.Being beautiful. D.Being confident.
57.What does the underlined word “strange-looking” mean?
A.Looking bored. B.Looking weird.
C.Looking pretty. D.Looking funny.
58.What does the writer try to tell us?
A.You’re special no matter how you look.
B.Most people are normal.
C.Looking good makes people feel happier.
D.We should work hard to get closer to being perfect.

He was an old man who fished alone in a boat and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish. In the first forty days a boy had been with him.
But after forty days without a fish, the boy’s parents had told him that the old man was now exactly and finally Salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week.
It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty and he always went down to help him carry fishing tools.
The old man was thin with deep wrinkles (皱纹) in the back of his neck. His hands had the deep scars (疤) from dealing with heavy fish. But none of these scars were fresh.
Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same colour as the sea and were cheerful and full of confidence.
“Santiago,” the boy said to him as they climbed from the bank where the boat was pulled up. “I could go with you again. We’ve made some money.”
The old man had taught the boy to fish and the boy loved him. “No.” the old man said. “You’re with a lucky boat. Stay with them.”
“But remember how you went eighty-seven days without fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks.”
“I remember,” the old man said. “I know you did not leave me willingly.”
“It was papa made me leave. I am a boy and I must do what he told me to.”
“I know.” the old man said. “I quite understand that.”
“He hasn’t much faith (信念).”
“No.” the old man said. “But we have. Haven’t we?”
“Yes.” the boy said. “Can I offer you a beer on the Terrace and then we’ll take the fishing tools home.”
“Why not?” the old man said. “Between fishermen.”
They sat on the Terrace and many of the fishermen made fun of the old man and he was not angry. Some other older fishermen looked at him and were sad. But they didn’t show it and they spoke politely about the sea, the weather and of what they had seen.
59.What does the underlined word “that” refer to?
A.The boy would leave him sooner or later. B.The boy had to listen to his parents and left him.
C.He couldn’t catch fish because he was too old. D.He couldn’t succeed without the boy’s support.
60.What is the right order of the story about the boy in the passage?
①The old man caught some big fish with the boy.

I used to be very shy, so I usually just listened to other people’s conversations. My teacher, Mrs. Smith, always encouraged me to communicate with others.
One day, she told us that our class would put on a play she had written. “I need someone to play the lead role. Does anyone want to try?” she asked. A few hands were raised—mine wasn’t one of them. Mrs. Smith walked up to me and said, “I think you’re perfect for it, but you didn’t raise your hand.”
Me, the lead? Was she crazy? Mrs. Smith continued, “I was thinking of you when I created the role! If you really don’t want to, I won’t force you.” Suddenly, I thought it was time to throw away my shyness and show the world who I really was. I looked at Mrs. Smith and said, “OK, I’ll try.”
After five months of practicing, the big day finally arrived. My knees shook and my heart beat like I’d just run a mile. “It doesn’t matter how the performance will be,” said Mrs. Smith, as if reading my thoughts. “You’ve already shown yourself how wonderful you are. That’s the most important thing.”
I smiled because I knew she was right. When I stepped on the stage (舞台), I showed that I could take chances and be brave enough to make a big change for myself—a girl with new-found confidence (信心).

阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。
On the night of August 14, 2015, everything changed when my friend’s car hit a tree with me inside.
I lost most of my left leg, and was bleeding a lot. After three weeks in hospital, I finally could go home with a false (假的) leg. However, the fight was far from over. More of my left leg got worse. This made it harder to wear my false leg, so I gave it to a girl who couldn’t buy one for herself. The joy of being able to help others was greater than the happiness of wearing it myself.
People often tell me that they’re proud (骄傲的) of me for staying strong. But in my mind, staying strong has always been my only choice.
I still remember, on the day I left the hospital, I told myself to always live life to the fullest. So, I tried to help those around me in my own way. In 2021, I even started modeling (当模特). My dream is that one day a little girl will see me in a magazine and say, “Wow, how beautiful she is, and she only has one leg.”
73.When did the writer have an accident?
74.How long did the writer stay in hospital?
75.What did the writer give to a girl?
