Unit 4 Changing and Growing-Preparing for the Topic-Function This unit focuses on the theme of "Changing and Growing". The Function part mainly helps students learn to express their problems and seek advice in English. Through the dialogue about Li Hong's problems at school, students are exposed to common expressions for stating difficulties and getting suggestions. For example, they will learn how to say "I failed the English exam." to express failure in an exam, and "Can you give me some suggestions?" to ask for advice. It aims to enable students to use these expressions flexibly in real - life communication when facing similar situations. 教学目标 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will be able to master key words and phrases related to expressing problems and seeking advice, such as "fail", "problem", "suggestion", "remend", etc. Students will learn important sentence patterns for expressing problems like "What's the problem?", "I failed...", and for seeking advice like "Can you give me some suggestions?" and for giving advice like "You can...", "I can remend...". 2. Ability Objectives Students can listen to and understand conversations about problems and advice, and extract key information accurately. Students are able to express their own problems and seek advice in English fluently and appropriately in oral communication. Students can write short passages about their problems and the advice they get using the learned language knowledge. 3. Emotional Objectives Encourage students to bravely face the problems in their study and life, and actively seek solutions. Cultivate students' awareness of helping others by giving reasonable advice when their classmates have problems. 教学重难点 1. Teaching Key Points The mastery and application of key words, phrases and sentence patterns for expressing problems and seeking/giving advice. Guide students to understand the context and tone of the dialogue, so as to better imitate and create similar conversations. 2. Teaching Difficult Points Enable students to use the learned language to express their real - life problems and give practical and reasonable advice. Help students overcome shyness and actively participate in oral communication activities to practice the target language. 1. Key Words fail /feɪl/v. 失败;不及格;未能(做到) e.g. I failed to catch the early bus this morning.(我今天早上没能赶上早班车。) He failed his driving test again.(他驾照考试又没通过。) problem /ˈprɒbləm/n. 问题;难题 e.g. We have a serious problem with pollution.(我们面临严重的污染问题。) What's the problem with your computer?(你的电脑出什么问题了?) suggestion /səˈdʒestʃən/n. 建议;提议 e.g. Can you give me some suggestions on how to learn English well?(你能给我一些如何学好英语的建议吗?) His suggestion sounds very good.(他的建议听起来很不错。) remend /ˌrekəˈmend/v. 推荐;举荐;介绍 e.g. I remend this book to all my students.(我把这本书推荐给我所有的学生。) She remended a good restaurant to us.(她给我们推荐了一家不错的餐厅。) 2. Key Phrases fail in 在…… 方面失败 e.g. He failed in the math competition.(他在数学竞赛中失利了。) have a problem with 在…… 方面有问题 e.g. I have a problem with my pronunciation.(我的发音有问题。) give sb. some suggestions 给某人一些建议 e.g. The teacher gave us some suggestions on how to write a good composition.(老师给了我们一些如何写好作文的建议。) remend sb. to sb. 把某人介绍给某人 e.g. The manager remended Tom to the new client.(经理把汤姆介绍给了新客户。) 3. Key Sentence Patterns Expressing problems: What's the problem? 怎么了? What's wrong? 出什么事了? I failed the...exam. 我…… 考试不及格。 I have some trouble/difficulty in... 我在…… 方面有困难。 Seeking advice: Can you give me some suggestions? 你能给我一些建议吗? What should I do? 我该怎么办? Do you have any ideas? 你有什么主意吗? Giving advice: You can... 你可以…… I think you should... 我认为你应该…… It would be a good idea to... 做…… 是个好主意。 I remend that you... 我建议你…… 教学过程 1. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Then show some pictures on the PPT, such as a student looking sad with a low - score test paper, a student looking worried about making new friends. Ask students: "What do you think has happened to them? How do they feel?" Encourage students to express their opinions freely. This activity can quickly attract students' attention and lead them into the topic of "problems". 2. Presentation (15 minutes) Vocabulary presentation Write the key words "fail", "problem", "suggestion", "remend" on the blackboard. Explain their meanings and usages one by one. For example, for "fail", show some example sentences on the PPT and let students read and understand. Then do a small exercise: give students some sentences with blanks, and let them fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words. e.g. He ________ (fail) to answer the teacher's question yesterday. (Answer: failed) Sentence pattern presentation Play the recording of the dialogue about Li Hong's problems at school. Let students listen carefully and follow it sentence by sentence. After that, explain the important sentence patterns for expressing problems, seeking advice and giving advice in the dialogue. Write them on the blackboard and let students imitate and practice reading. Divide the students into pairs. Ask them to practice the dialogue in the textbook. Walk around the classroom to offer help and correct their pronunciation and intonation in time. 3. Practice (15 minutes) Oral practice Present some common problems on the PPT, such as "I lost my wallet.", "I can't get on well with my roommate.", "I'm not good at math." etc. Let students work in pairs. One student chooses a problem and expresses it, and the other gives advice. Then they switch roles. After a few minutes, invite some pairs to come to the front of the class and act out their conversations. Written practice Ask students to write a short passage. Suppose they have a problem (they can choose one from the problems given in the oral practice or their own real - life problems), and write down how they express the problem, who they ask for advice from and what advice they get. Give them about 5 minutes to write. Then ask several students to read their passages aloud in class. 4. Consolidation (7 minutes) Summarize the key words, phrases and sentence patterns learned in this class on the blackboard. Let students read them together to strengthen their memory. Do a quick review exercise. Show some multiple - choice questions, fill - in - the - blanks questions and translation questions on the PPT related to the knowledge points of this class. Let students answer them quickly. Check the answers together and explain the difficult points. 5. Homework Assignment (3 minutes) Ask students to write a letter to their friend. In the letter, they should describe a problem they have recently and ask their friend for advice. Encourage students to pay attention to the problems around them in their daily life and try to use English to express and solve them. 教学反思 After this class, generally speaking, most students can master the key words, phrases and sentence patterns for expressing problems and seeking/giving advice. Through various practice activities, students' oral and written communication abilities have been improved to a certain extent. However, there are still some areas that need improvement. In the oral practice part, some students are still a little shy and not very active in participating. In the future, more encouragement and more interesting activities can be designed to make them more willing to open their mouths. Also, when students are giving advice, some of the advice is not very practical. In the next class, more guidance can be given on how to give reasonable and practical advice. In terms of teaching methods, the combination of listening, speaking, reading and writing has achieved good results, but the form of some activities can be more diverse. For example, in the group work, more competition elements can be added to stimulate students' enthusiasm. Overall, continuous improvement and adjustment of teaching methods and content are needed to better meet the learning needs of students. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
