Visit the ancient kingdom of Nepal(尼泊尔)
Why not take a holiday somewhere completely different? Visit Nepal – a land of excitement and adventure! From Everest Base Camp high in the Himalayas, to the jungles of the Royal Chitwan National Park, to the ancient city of Bhaktapur, Nepal’s amazing scenery and fascinating culture make it a great holiday destination.
Any trip to Nepal starts in the Kathmandu valley, with a visit to the Nepali capital. The old centre of Kathmandu with its crowded old streets and beautiful architecture is very different from the expensive modern hotels, shops and restaurants on the city’s outer areas.
The valley is also home to two other cities. Patan is quieter and less crowded than Kathmandu, and is famous for its temples and other old buildings. However, the oldest and probably the most attractive of the three cities is Bhaktapur. Many of its beautiful temples and palaces were built in the seventeenth century, when it was the capital of Nepal.
Travel eight hours by bus west of Kathmandu to reach the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara. This is a perfect place to relax – row a boat on the lake, read a novel, or just hang out in one of many great restaurants. If you are feeling more energetic, you can go for a three- or four-day journey around Mount Annapurna.
Northeast of Kathmandu, near the border with China, is Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain. Everest Base Camp is where teams of climbers prepare to climb the mountain, and it is a popular destination for tourists. However, there have been problems with tourists leaving litter at Base Camp – so remember to take your rubbish away with you!
In the south of the country, near the border with India, is the Royal Chitwan National Park. Very different from the cool mountains of the Himalayas, Chitwan is a hot and sticky tropical jungle. In the past, this was where rich British and Nepalese hunters shot elephants, rhinoceros, tigers, leopards and deer, but today all these animals are protected. You can take a tour of the park, riding on the back of an elephant.

Book Report Frindle By Andrew Clements
The book Frindle is about a troublemaker named Nick who makes up a new word. His teacher, Mrs. Granger, really likes the dictionary. When Nick asks Mrs. Granger where all the words in the dictionary came from, she makes Nick write a report about it! The report makes Nick wonder if he could invent his own word. Nick’s classmate Janet drops her pen, and he 1 and calls it a “frindle”. Pretty soon, everyone in class is saying “frindle” instead of pen.
A war begins between Mrs. Granger and Nick. Nick likes to challenge the rules, but he’s not all bad. He is creative and has lots of 2 . It’s too bad that people think something is wrong just because it’s new and different. Mrs. Granger is too hard on Nick and the way she treats him is unfair.
The best part is when the kids in Nick’s class protect him by actions. They are __3__ willing to stay after school and be punished for saying “frindle”. When a class sticks together like that it’s really special.
Mrs. Granger wants to stop Nick from spreading his word. But the “frindle” is unstoppable. People across the country are saying it. Nick gets a lot of 4 for inventing this word. He sees that one person can have a big effect.
The book has a very 5 ending. Nick is in college, and he is rich from all the money he has made off his word. Mrs. Granger sends him a dictionary that has the word “frindle” and a letter about how she is proud of him. She ends up being the most interesting character in the book!
Everyone should read Frindle 6 it’s such a great book. Kids who are troublemakers would especially like this book.

Answer the questions:(回答问题)
How to be successful
Once Eric came to visit his grandfather during his summer holidays. One day he said to his grandpa, “When I grow up, I want to become a successful man. Can you tell me the way to be successful?”
Grandfather nodded in yes and took Eric to a nearby garden. There Grandpa bought two small plants and came back home. Then he planted one in a pot and kept it inside the house and planted the other outside the house. “Which of these two plants will grow better in the future?” Grandfather asked Eric. Eric thought for a while and said, “The plant inside the house will grow better because it is safe from every danger while the one outside is at risk of many things like strong sunlight, storms, animals, etc.” Grandfather smiled and said, “Let’s see what will happen in the future.” After that, Eric left with his parents.
Four years later, Eric came to visit his grandfather again. When he saw his grandfather, he said, “Grandpa, this time you have to tell me the way to be successful.” Grandfather smiled and said, “Sure, but first let’s take a look at the plants that we bought a few years ago.”
Saying this, Grandfather took Eric to see the plant kept inside. They found it had turned into a tree. Then he took Eric to look at the one planted outside. There they saw a huge tree with its branches spreading far and wide.
Eric looked ________ and asked, “Grandpa, how is this possible? That plant outside must have faced so many dangers, but it still grew so big!” Grandfather smiled and said, “Yes, the plant outside had to face many things, but dealing with problems has many benefits. It had the freedom to spread its roots as much as it wanted and problems like storms made its roots stronger. Today it is so strong that a small storm can not cause any harm to it.”
Thinking of the two trees, Eric took a long breath and said, “Grandpa, I think I have known the way to be successful.”

才”,即“They didn't go out to play until the rain stopped.”(直到雨停他们才出去玩耍)。
4.hadn't you
解析: “You’d better”是“You had better”的缩写,反意疑问句遵循“前肯后否”原则,疑问部分用hadn't you。
答案:5.How long
6.How has
解析: 划线部分“With the help of teachers”表示方式(在老师的帮助下),对方式提问用How(如何)。
7.managed to
managed to后接动词原形,与“succeeded in + doing”意思相近。

1. A
文章开头以邀请句式“Why not take a holiday...”引入,并充满宣传语气(如“a land of excitement and adventure”“great holiday destination”),整体语言具有鼓动性,因此它更可能是一则广告(A),而非新闻报道、报告或信件。
2. B
第一段的核心句是“Nepal’s amazing scenery and fascinating culture make it a great holiday destination”,强调尼泊尔令人兴奋和有趣的特色(excitement and adventure),故B选项最全面。
3.A
第三段明确说明“the valley is also home to two other cities”(Patan和Bhaktapur),且Bhaktapur是“the oldest and probably the most attractive of the three cities”,因此A正确。
4.C
第五段中,“it”指代前句“Everest Base Camp is where teams of climbers prepare... and it is a popular destination for tourists”,故C正确。
5.D
B. Choose the best answer and complete the passage(选择最恰当的单词或短语选项完成短文)
( )1. A) picks it up B) picks it out C) looks it up D) find it out
( )2. A) inventions B) suggestions C) ideas D) stories
( )3.A) also B) even C) only D) never
( )4. A) advice B) attention C) discussion D) experience
( )5.A) amusing B) serious C) surprising D) terrible
( )6.A) if B) unless C) until D) because
1. A) picks it up
解析: 根据上下文“Nick’s classmate Janet drops her pen, and he...”,Janet把笔掉在地上,Nick应该是“捡起它”并称之为“frindle”。picks it up(捡起)符合逻辑。
B) picks it out(挑选出)、C) looks it up(查阅)、D) find it out(找出)均与“掉笔”场景不符。
2. C) ideas
ideas(想法)最贴合。
A) inventions(发明物)、B) suggestions(建议)、D) stories(故事)均不如“ideas”准确,因为发明新词需要的是“点子”。
3. B) even
even(甚至)表示递进,符合句意。
A) also(也)、C) only(仅仅)、D) never(从不)均无法表达这种强化语气。
4. B) attention
attention(关注)符合语境。
A) advice(建议)、C) discussion(讨论)、D) experience(经验)均与“发明新词成名”无关。
5. C) surprising
surprising(令人惊讶的)最合适。
A) amusing(有趣的)、B) serious(严肃的)、D) terrible(糟糕的)均与积极结局不符。
6. D) because
解析: 前句“Everyone should read Frindle”是建议,后句“it’s such a great book”是原因,需用表示原因的连词。because(因为)引导原因状语从句。
A) if(如果)、B) unless(除非)、C) until(直到)均不表示原因。
Eric looked _____5___ and asked, “Grandpa, how is this possible? That plant outside must have faced so many dangers, but it still grew so big!” Grandfather smiled and said, “Yes, the plant outside had to face many things, but dealing with problems has many benefits. It had the freedom to spread its roots as much as it wanted and problems like storms made its roots stronger. Today it is so strong that a small storm can not cause any harm to it.”
Thinking of the two trees, Eric took a long breath and said, “Grandpa, I think I have known the way to be successful.”

2. 直接依据原文:"planted one in a pot and kept it inside the house and planted the other outside"。
4. 祖父先带Eric看了室内的植物("first let’s take a look at the plant kept inside")。
原文中他问“How is this possible?”
