Unit 2 Digital life-D My view on digital life (Writing & Discovery) This part of Unit 2 “Digital life” focuses on students' exploration and expression of their views on digital life. It combines reading materials related to digital life, guiding students to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of digital products and digital life. Through various activities such as discussion, writing, and discovery, students are expected to improve their language skills in terms of reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. They will learn how to organize their thoughts, express their opinions clearly in English, and also gain a deeper understanding of the digital world we live in. 教学目标 Students will be able to master key vocabulary and phrases related to digital life, such as “online shopping”, “social media”, “digital device”, “information explosion” etc. Learn sentence patterns for expressing opinions, like “In my opinion...”, “I think that...”, “It seems to me that...” Understand different reading materials about digital life and extract relevant information accurately. 教学重难点 A. Key Points Vocabulary and phrase learning related to digital life. Sentence patterns for opinion expression. Reading comprehension strategies for texts about digital life. Structure and content organization in writing about views on digital life. B. Difficult Points How to guide students to think critically and comprehensively about the complex digital life and express their unique views in English. Helping students write a well - structured and content - rich passage with correct grammar and vivid expressions. A. Vocabulary Digital device: computer, smartphone, tablet, e - reader, etc. Digital activity: online shopping, online learning, social media surfing, playing online games, etc. Related terms: information explosion, privacy, cyber - security, virtual world, etc. B. Phrases Benefit from: gain an advantage from something. E.g. We can benefit from online learning by accessing a large amount of educational resources. Be addicted to: be unable to stop doing something. E.g. Some students are addicted to playing online games. Keep in touch with: maintain communication with someone. E.g. Social media helps us keep in touch with friends far away. C. Sentence Patterns for Opinion Expression In my opinion: used to introduce one's personal view. E.g. In my opinion, digital life has brought us more convenience than troubles. I think that: a common way to state one's thought. E.g. I think that we should control the time we spend on digital devices. It seems to me that: implies that one's view is based on what they observe or feel. E.g. It seems to me that online shopping is changing our traditional shopping habits. 教学过程 A. Lead - in (5 minutes) Show some pictures of people using digital devices in different scenarios, such as a person shopping online, a student taking an online course, and a family member chatting on social media. Ask students: “What can you see in these pictures? What are these people doing? How often do you do similar things in your daily life?” Encourage students to share their experiences briefly, leading to the topic of digital life. B. Reading Comprehension (15 minutes) Skimming: Give students a short passage about digital life (e.g. “Digital life has become an important part of our daily life. We use digital devices like smartphones and computers to work, study, and entertain ourselves. However, it also brings some problems like privacy issues.”). Ask them to read it quickly and find out the main idea. Guide questions: “What is the passage mainly about? Is it about the advantages, disadvantages, or both of digital life?” After students answer, summarize the main idea together: The passage mainly discusses the two - sided nature of digital life. Scanning: Let students read the passage again more carefully. Present some detailed questions, such as “What are the advantages mentioned in the passage? What problems does digital life bring?” Ask students to underline the relevant sentences in the passage. Invite several students to answer the questions and check the answers together. C. Vocabulary and Phrase Learning (10 minutes) Teach the new vocabulary and phrases related to digital life on the blackboard or using PPT. Explain their meanings with examples. For example, when teaching “online shopping”, show pictures of Taobao or JD.com pages and say “Online shopping means buying things through the Internet. We can buy almost everything we need, like clothes, books, and electronics, through online shopping platforms.” Do vocabulary exercises. For example, give students some incomplete sentences and let them fill in the blanks with the correct words or phrases. Sentences like “Many people are addicted to ______ (social media / online learning) and spend hours on it every day.” Check the answers and correct students' mistakes in time. D. Sentence Pattern Practice (5 minutes) Write the sentence patterns for expressing opinions on the blackboard: “In my opinion...”, “I think that...”, “It seems to me that...” Give an example topic, such as “the use of smartphones in class”. Demonstrate how to use these sentence patterns to express opinions. “In my opinion, smartphones should not be allowed in class because they may distract students' attention. I think that students should focus on their studies during class time. It seems to me that using smartphones in class is a bad habit.” Ask students to work in pairs. Each pair chooses a topic related to digital life (e.g. “online games”, “online learning”) and takes turns to express their opinions using the given sentence patterns. Walk around the classroom to monitor and offer help if necessary. E. Writing Guidance (10 minutes) Structure Introduction: Explain the basic structure of writing about views on digital life. Usually, it can be divided into three parts: the introduction, the main body, and the conclusion. In the introduction, students can briefly introduce the topic of digital life and state that they will talk about their views. For example, “Digital life has become an inseparable part of our modern society. In this passage, I will share my views on it.” In the main body, they can list the advantages and disadvantages of digital life respectively, using the sentence patterns learned before. For example, “In my opinion, one of the biggest advantages of digital life is that it provides us with great convenience. We can shop online without leaving home, and communicate with friends around the world in a second. However, digital life also has its drawbacks. It seems to me that the information explosion makes it hard for us to distinguish the true from the false.” In the conclusion, students can summarize their views and give a simple suggestion. For example, “To sum up, digital life has both pros and cons. We should make good use of it and avoid being affected by its negative aspects.” Brainstorming: Let students brainstorm more ideas about the advantages and disadvantages of digital life in groups. Each group writes down their ideas on a piece of paper. After that, invite each group to share their ideas with the whole class. Write the useful ideas on the blackboard for students to refer to when writing. F. Homework Assignment Ask students to write a passage of about 120 words about their views on digital life at home, following the structure and using the vocabulary, phrases, and sentence patterns learned in class. Encourage students to do some extra reading about digital life, such as reading English articles on the Internet or in magazines, and collect more information and new words about this topic. 教学反思 In this class, the use of pictures and real - life examples in the lead - in part effectively aroused students' interest and engaged them in the topic. However, more students' active participation could be encouraged in the future, for example, by setting up more interactive activities. During the reading comprehension process, most students could master the skimming and scanning skills, but some students still had difficulties in understanding long and complex sentences. More sentence - analyzing exercises should be designed for these students in the next class. The vocabulary and phrase learning part was relatively smooth, but the practice methods could be more diversified to strengthen students' memory. In the sentence pattern practice and writing guidance, students showed their enthusiasm in pair work and group brainstorming. However, some students still made grammar mistakes when expressing their opinions. Grammar review and more writing practice are needed to improve their writing accuracy. Overall, this class laid a good foundation for students to express their views on digital life, but there are still areas for improvement in teaching methods and student guidance. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
