阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

The Lunar New Year is a major holiday in several Asian countries. And people celebrate over several days or even weeks. It is called the Spring Festival in China, Tet in Vietnam and Seollal in Korea.
What are some traditions around the Lunar New Year?
One well-known ancient story speaks of Nian, a terrible monster that eats human flesh on New Year's Day. But Nian fears the colour red, loud noises and fire. So, Lunar New Year activities include putting up red paper dragons on the doors of homes. People also burn red lanterns all night and set off firecrackers to chase away the monster.
Red is considered a lucky colour to ring in a new year. People wear red clothing, decorate their homes with red paper lanterns and use red envelopes to present loved ones with gifts of money.
Ancestor worship is also common during this time. Many Korean families take part in a ceremony called “charye”. Female family members prepare food and male members serve it to ancestors. The final act involves the entire family sharing a meal and asking for help from their ancestors. Vietnamese culture holds a similar tradition.
How do diaspora (大移居) communities celebrate?
Members of Asian American communities around the US also organize parades, parties and other events around the Lunar New Year. Lion and dragon dances are common, as are fireworks, traditional food and cultural performances.
What are some special foods for the New Year?
Each culture has its own special foods for New Year celebration. In Chinese culture, for example, “changshou mian” or “long-life noodles” are eaten with a wish for a long, healthy and happy life. Koreans celebrate with “tteokguk”, a soup that contains thinly sliced rice cakes. And Vietnamese culture has “banh chung”, a traditional dish made from rice, mung bean and pork belly. The dish is usually covered with banana leaves, shaped into a square and tied up with strings for steaming.
21. Which is NOT a way to drive away Nian?
A. Setting off firecrackers. B. Burning red lanterns.
C. Putting up red dragons. D. Making red envelopes.
22. In which country do people celebrate the Lunar New Year with “banh chung”?
A. Korea. B. China. C. Vietnam. D. The US.
23. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A folk story. B. A magazine.
C. A promotional brochure. D. A food promotion advertisement.
【答案】21. D 22. C 23. B
【导语】这是一篇应用文,文章介绍了农历新年的相关知识。
21. 细节理解题。根据第二段中“But Nian fears the colour red, loud noises and fire. So, Lunar New Year activities include putting up red paper dragons on the doors of homes. People also burn red lanterns all night and set off firecrackers to chase away the monster.(但是年害怕红色、噪音和火。所以,农历新年的活动包括在家里的门上贴红纸龙。人们还整夜烧红灯笼,放鞭炮来赶走怪兽)”可知,人们驱赶“年”这种怪兽的方法包括贴红纸龙、烧红灯笼和放鞭炮;根据第三段“Red is considered a lucky colour to ring in a new year. People wear red clothing, decorate their homes with red paper lanterns and use red envelopes to present loved ones with gifts of money.(红色被认为是新年的幸运色。人们穿红衣服,用红纸灯笼装饰他们的家,用红包给爱的人送钱)”可知,红包的目的是为了送压岁钱,而不是为了驱赶“年”这种怪兽,故选D。
22. 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“And Vietnamese culture has ‘banh chung’, a traditional dish made from rice, mung bean and pork belly.(越南文化中还有‘banh chung’,这是一种由米饭、绿豆和五花肉制成的传统菜肴)”可知,越南庆祝农历新年的时候,会吃banh chung这种特别的食物,故选C。

After graduating from Ontario College of Teachers, I became a teacher at a one-room country school in Aldborough Township.
That first day of school as a 19-year-old female teacher was a frightening experience. It was one thing to have graduated as a successful student; it was another thing to face a classroom of little faces that were waiting for the “new teacher”. I had a classroom of 21 children of different shapes and sizes. The youngest was five going on six and the eldest was 16.
There were two doors for entrance in my school, one for the girls, one for the boys and just inside each door was a chemical toilet — no outdoor equipment for us! The heat in the building was a wood-burning furnace (火炉) down in the basement. Looking after the furnace was one of my responsibilities. Luckily, I knew a bit about starting a fire, so the school didn’t burn down.
What I found most difficult was that a parent might take a child out of school for any reason. I had one Dutch family, whose father would keep the children out of school to help with the farm work. Finally, I got tired of this and sent an education officer to solve the problem. Needless to say, I was very unpopular with that father from then on, but the children came to school much more regularly!
In the classroom, the older students helped the younger ones with learning, as well as with putting on coats and hats. If someone’s lunch was forgotten, everyone shared a bit of their food. We were a family. We had good times and bad times, but we kept learning. Far beyond maths, social studies, reading, grammar and writing, we learned how to get along with each other.
I loved teaching at this small school and knew I was teaching the children about life as much as about subjects. I’d like to believe some students will have an effect on the world that will last long after I am gone.
24. Why did the writer feel her first day as a teacher frightening?
A. There were so many students in the class. B. The situations were quite different.
C. There was no outdoor equipment. D. The students were curious about her.
25. What do we know about the school?
A. It was badly equipped. B. The playground was large.
C. It was once damaged by a fire. D. The students were of similar age.
26. What was a headache for the writer?
A. A Dutch family hated her.
B. The students preferred farm work.
C. The education officer offered little help.
D. Some parents didn’t care about their children’s education.
27. What can be inferred from Paragraph 5?
A. They cared about each other. B. They had an effect on the world.
C. They laughed away bad times. D. They did well in almost every subject.
【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D 27. A
【导语】本文为一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者毕业后,到一所乡村学校教书的经历。
24. 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“It was one thing to have graduated as a successful student; it was another thing to face a classroom of little faces that were waiting for the “new teacher”. (作为一名成功的学生毕业是一回事;面对一群等待“新老师”的小脸是另一回事。)”可知,作者第一天当老师感到害怕,是因为作者面临的情况和自己当学生时完全不同。故选B。
25. 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“There were two doors for entrance in my school, one for the girls, one for the boys and just inside each door was a chemical toilet — no outdoor equipment for us! The heat in the building was a wood-burning furnace (火炉) down in the basement. (我的学校有两扇门,一扇给女生,一扇给男生,每扇门里面都有一个化学厕所——我们没有户外设备!大楼里的暖气来自地下室的一个烧木头的炉子。)”可知,学校没有户外设备,暖气来自烧木头的炉子,学校里的设施比较落后。故选A。
26. 细节理解题。根据文章第四段“What I found most difficult was that a parent might take a child out of school for any reason. (我发现最困难的是父母可能会以任何理由让孩子离开学校。)”可知,家长可能会让孩子辍学,说明让作者最头疼的是一些父母忽视孩子的教育。故选D。
27. 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“In the classroom, the older students helped the younger ones with learning, as well as with putting on coats and hats. If someone’s lunch was forgotten, everyone shared a bit of their food. We were a family. We had good times and bad times, but we kept learning. (在教室里,年长的学生帮助年幼的学生学习,以及穿上外套和帽子。如果某人的午餐被忘记了,每个人都会分享一点他们的食物。我们是一家人。我们有过快乐的时光,也有过痛苦的时光,但我们一直在学习。)”可知,作者和学生们相互关心。故选A。

Migraine is a disease that has a number of symptoms (症状), including head pain that can stick around from four hours to several days. While migraines can happen partly because of genetic (基因的) problems, attacks may happen by chance, set off by a cause in the environment.
One common cause is food, and some common dietary causes include alcohol, salt, sugar, chocolate, and caffeine. But there are many others, and scientists continue to identify more. Last year, for example, a Brazilian study found that watermelons brought on a headache within minutes in about 30 percent of the participants.
Some new researches are looking at which foods and what kinds of diets can prevent or lessen migraines. A new study published last year by a team of researchers found that a diet higher in fish oils rather than vegetable oils helped people ease their headaches. In the study, those on a diet lower in vegetable oil and higher in fatty fish had a 30 to 40 percent reduction in total headache hours per day, serious headache hours per day, and overall headache days per month compared to the control group.
Tanya Kamka had suffered weekly migraines for most of her life. Then, in her 50s, she joined the NIH diet experiment and increased her intake of fish. After only a few months, “I haven’t had a migraine, not even a mild one, in over two years.” she says.
For others, the solution comes from plants, not fish. A 60-year-old man joined a study on the food-migraine link and turned to a diet, which includes a lot of dark, leafy greens. After two months he was experiencing only one migraine a month instead of the 18 to 24 a month he’d suffered before.
Clearly, people with migraines react to food in very different ways. What works for one person may not work for another.
28. What do we know about migraine from paragraph 1?
A. It is related to sleep time. B. It never runs in the family.
C. It lasts for at least three hours. D. It can be caused by the environment.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The length of migraine. B. Foods that lead to migraine.
C. The most common cause of migraine. D. A Brazilian study about migraine.
30. What can lessen migraines according to a new study published last year?
A. Fish oils. B. Vegetable oils.

If there is one thing that comes to mind when the words “South Pacific” are spoken, then it must be coconut palms (椰子树). Most of us have images of all attractive coconut palms lining sandy beaches. But the coconut tree is more than a central characteristic of picture postcards bought by tourists.

Coconut leaves produce good-quality paper pulp (纸浆), hats, wastebaskets and bags. Flesh (果肉) and water (often called the milk) from the young, green coconut can be taken as a healthy food and drink. It is also used in salads and other tasty dishes.
Coconut husks (外壳) it are often thrown away, but they can be used to produce different kinds of useful products such as ropes, fishing nets, and floor coverings.

The trunk of the coconut tree is a strong and durable wood, which can be used to build houses.

32. 细节理解题。由第二段“To people of the South Pacific, the coconut tree is also known as the “Tree of Life”. It gets this name because of the different kinds of products which the coconut palm provides from its various parts. From the leaves down to its roots, it plays a great part in the life of many island people. The coconut tree provides food, shelter, fuel as well as income from exports. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In a world where convenience is king, it’s easy to take advantage of to-go containers and packaged goods. ___36___. As a result, 8 million tons of plastic is poured into the ocean each year. The pollution this causes can threaten wildlife, change ecosystems, and pose risks to human health. Thankfully, there are manageable ways to deal with that pollution when you travel.
☆___37___
If you’re able to find a hotel with an on-site restaurant — or better yet, accommodations with a kitchen — eating in is the way to go. Ordering takeout results in a lot of packaging and single-use knives that can be avoided. Tableware (餐具), like bags, bottles, food containers, and knives together with wrappers accounts for almost half of the human-made objects on a global scale.
☆Seek out local markets
If you’re eating in, a trip to the store may seem like a logical next step; however, grocers (杂货商) tend to over-package their goods. ___38___ Of course, not all destinations have easily accessible markets. If you’re traveling somewhere that doesn’t offer one, try buying in bulk and packing your own produce bags.
☆Pack a reusable to-go container
Buying reusable bags that fit nicely into a backpack or purse can make for easy, waste-free storage. ___39___
☆Do your research
___40___. When researching restaurants, seek out those that use local ingredients (食材). Not only do these establishments help out their communities by supporting local farmers, bakers, and the like, but they also lower greenhouse gas emissions (排放) from transportation. Buying fresh instead of frozen food means less plastic packaging waste, too.
A. Dine in
B. Bring your own tableware
C. It can be used for more than just food
D. Instead, try exploring local farmers’ markets
E. We’re more and more dependent on single-use plastics
F. They’re also great for storing leftovers to stop food waste
G. It always pays off to be knowledgeable about the city you’re visiting
【答案】36. E 37. A 38. D 39. F 40. G

(在一个便利至上的世界里,人们很容易使用外卖容器和包装商品。)”及下文“As a result, 8 million tons of plastic is poured into the ocean each year. (结果,每年有 800 万吨塑料被倒入海洋。)”可知,上文提到便利至上导致人们使用外卖容器和包装商品,下文提到大量塑料被倒入海洋,可推测本空应强调人们对一次性塑料制品的依赖。E选项“We’re more and more dependent on single-use plastics (我们越来越依赖一次性塑料制品)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选E。
37. 根据下文“If you’re able to find a hotel with an on-site restaurant—or better yet, accommodations with a kitchen — eating in is the way to go. (如果你能找到一家有内部餐厅的酒店 —— 或者更好的是,有厨房的住宿 —— 在家就餐是个不错的选择。)”可知,这一段主要讲的是在家就餐,避免外卖带来的大量包装和一次性用品。A选项“Dine in (在家就餐)”能概括这一段的主旨,符合题意。故选A。
38. 由上文“If you’re eating in, a trip to the store may seem like a logical next step; however, grocers (杂货商) tend to over-package their goods. (如果你选择在家就餐,那么接下来去商店购物似乎是顺理成章的事;然而,杂货商往往会过度包装他们的商品。)”及下文“Of course, not all destinations have easily accessible markets. (当然,不是所有的目的地都有容易到达的市场。)”可知,上文提到杂货商过度包装商品,下文提到不是所有地方都有容易到达的市场,可推测本空应建议去当地市场购物,避免过度包装。D选项“Instead, try exploring local farmers’ markets (相反,试着去探索当地的农贸市场)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选D。
39. 由上文“Buying reusable bags that fit nicely into a backpack or purse can make for easy, waste-free storage. (购买可以很好地放进背包或钱包的可重复使用的袋子,可以方便、无浪费地储存物品。)”可知,本空应进一步说明这种可重复使用袋子的其他用途。F选项“They’re also great for storing leftovers to stop food waste (它们也非常适合储存剩菜,以防止食物浪费)”进一步说明了可重复使用袋子的好处,能承接上文,符合题意。故选F。
40. 根据下文“When researching restaurants, seek out those that use local ingredients (食材). (在研究餐馆时,寻找那些使用当地食材的餐馆。)”可知,本空应强调在旅行前对目的地做研究的重要性。G选项“It always pays off to be knowledgeable about the city you're visiting (了解你所访问的城市总是有好处的)”能引出下文对了解当地餐馆的描述,符合题意。故选G。

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Biar Kon grew up in a shelter in Kenya, after his parents were forced to migrate from neighbouring Sudan. When he was 17, he moved to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to attend school.
Once he arrived, he needed to get some documents from the Sudanese embassy (大使馆) . But when he went to look for the embassy, he couldn’t find it. He asked a few people for directions, and no one knew where it was. Then an older woman tapped him on the back.
The lady said to him, “Hey, my son.” “That was the first word,” Kon recalled. “She said, ‘Hey, my son, how are you doing?’” The woman told Kon that she had seen him asking questions of multiple people as they passed, and she wondered if he needed money for food, or a place to stay. Then Kon realized that the woman thought he was homeless.
“Because in Kenya, it’s very common,” Kon said. “Kids at 17, kids at 15, kids at 12—kids of any age can be on the street looking for survival.”
They cleared up the confusion, and the woman was able to give Kon directions to the embassy. Then she told him about the deeper reason she had asked if he needed help: because of her experience as a mother.
“I wouldn’t want my child to be on the street,” the woman told him. “And anytime I see a child on the street, I feel like I have an obligation (义务) to help.”
The woman’s generosity left a deep impression on Kon. And it inspired him to pay it forward, five years later, when he moved to Boston, Massachusetts.
When he arrived there, Kon expected that everyone he saw would be well-off and successful. So he was shocked at the number of homeless people he encountered on the street.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One day outside a coffee shop, he observed an interaction between a young woman and a homeless man.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After learning the young man’s story, Kon knew it was time to pass on what that kind lady had done to him.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
One day, outside a coffee shop, he observed an interaction between a young woman and a homeless man. The homeless man asked the young lady if she could spare change. And she said, “Why don’t you go to look for a job?” Kon reflected back to that moment five years earlier, when the woman in Nairobi had mistaken him for a homeless person. Kon was still touched by her kindness. So he went up to the man, to see what he could do. He told Kon why he was on the street—because he made a mistake when he was in high school, and he couldn’t get a job now.
After learning the young man’s story, Kon knew it was time to pass on what that kind lady had done to him. Kon bought the man some breakfast, and gave him a little bit of money. The young man was moved to tears and thanked him again and again. Today, it’s an encounter he reflects on often. For him, it was a reminder that you never know what people are going through unless you make a point to talk to them—the way the woman in Nairobi made an effort to talk to him. Kon hopes in the future he could start a non-profit to provide housing and social support for people living on the street—an idea partly inspired by his unsung hero.

Dear international friends,
I’m happy to recommend dumplings to you. Dumplings are made by wrapping dough around various fillings, from pork and chives to vegetarian mixes, and can be boiled, steamed, or fried. During festivals like Chinese New Year, families gather to make them. Dumplings are not just food, but also a symbol of family unity and happiness.
When I was a child, I often made dumplings with my family, which left me with many happy memories. We often hide a coin in a dumpling for good luck.
I sincerely hope that you can come to China. We’ll make dumplings together and enjoy this delightful experience! Yours, Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
The Lunar New Year is a major holiday in several Asian countries.
B
C
C. All kinds of fat. D. Various Vegetables.
31. Which is the author’s opinion about the effect of food on migraines?
A. It varies from person to person. B. It can only stay for a short time.
C. It depends on the age of a patient. D. It is connected to how much one takes.
D
If there is one thing that comes to mind when the words “South Pacific” are spoken, then it must be coconut palms (椰子树). Most of us have images of all attractive coconut palms lining sandy beaches. But the coconut tree is more than a central characteristic of picture postcards bought by tourists.
To people of the South Pacific, the coconut tree is also known as the “Tree of Life”. It gets this name because of the different kinds of products which the coconut palm provides from its various parts. From the leaves down to its roots, it plays a great part in the life of many island people. The coconut tree provides food, shelter, fuel as well as income from exports.
Coconut water can be used in the production of wine and is also used to treat a number of medical problems.
The white coconut flesh is a good source of coconut oil, coconut chips, and feed for animals.
The trunk of the coconut tree is a strong and durable wood, which can be used to build houses.
Medicines and dyes (燃料) are obtained from the roots.
The English oak, the Lebanon cedar or the Australian gum tree all have a place in history but the coconut palm is the only true “Tree of Life”.
32. Why is the coconut palm called the “Tree of Life”?
A. It h as a long lifetime. B. It is mostly exported.
C. It has a vast range of uses. D. It is necessary for islanders.
33. Which part of a coconut tree can be used to treat some diseases?
A. Leaves. B. Flesh. C. Husks. D. Water.
34. What does the underlined word “durable” mean in paragraph 7?
A. long-lived. B. wet. C. flexible. D. rough.
35. What’s the major purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a useful type of plant.
B. To announce some new discoveries.
C. To tell readers about island people’s life.
D. To explain how to make full use of coconut leaves.

B
C
A. It has a long lifetime.
