For example, one day, I decided to invite some friends to my home. My bedroom was in a mess. Books, clothes and shoes were all over the table and ground. I didn’t make my bed, either. I asked, “Could you please help me clean the room, Mom?” But she said seriously, “Do it yourself, my dear girl. I’m busy. You should do it yourself.” Because of my “lazy mom”, I have to do many chores, such as washing my clothes and cleaning my room. I have to help my parents and my little sister. And I also have to go to the dentist by myself. It is really hard for me to do everything on my own, but I have learned a lot. As time goes by, I understand my mother. Thanks to her “laziness”, I become clever and hard-working. Just as my mom always says, “A lady can’t be lazy, or she’ll be crazy. Work can make you sunny!” What a great mother! Don’t you think so? 4. What would her mother do when the writer asked her for help? A. She would ask the writer to do it herself. B. She would help the writer when she was free. C. She would get angry with the writer. D. She would ask others to offer help. 5. Why does the writer write the example in Paragraph 2? A. To show readers that she could do many chores. B. To show readers that her mother was lazy. C. To tell readers that she seldom cleaned her room. D. To tell readers that her mother was too busy to do chores. 6. How does the writer’s feeling about her mother change? A. angry→worried B. surprised→pleased C angry→thankful D. surprised→sorry 7. Why does the writer use double quotation marks (双引号) when she calls her mother a “lazy mom”? A. Because she wants to show that her mother is really lazy. B. Because it’s a phrase from a book or a movie. C. Because in fact she doesn’t think so anymore. D. Because she doesn’t want to get her mother mad. C The guitar is one of the most popular musical instruments in the world. Many different cultures have played instruments like the guitar for over 3, 000 years. The oldest instrument that we can see today comes from Ancient Egypt. You can see this guitar in a museum in Cairo. It belonged to a singer who sang for the Egyptian queen Hatshepsut. This type of guitar had a long neck and only three strings (弦). The lute is also an ancient instrument similar to a guitar, but it has a short neck and a body like half a pear. It usually had more strings than a guitar and they were in pairs. From 1100 to 1500, travelling singers and story tellers played the lute to go with their songs. Guitars sometimes had pairs of strings like the lute, but the guitar changed over time to use single strings. People used guitars with six single strings for the first time in the 1600s in Italy, but the most important change happened in the 1850s. The Spanish guitar maker Antonio Torres Jurado made the guitar’s body bigger. His idea made the sound of the guitar louder and better. Most of today’s classical guitars follow his design. The first electric guitars appeared in the 1930s. The electric guitars have a solid body and can make many different sounds. We also find them in many different shapes and sizes. Some electric guitars don’t look like guitars at all! 8. Which of the following is a lute? A. B. C. D. 9. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. Guitars. B. Sounds. C. Shapes. D. Sizes. 10. In which order did the following happen? a. The first electric guitars appeared. b. People used guitars with six single strings in Italy. c. Antonio Torres Jurado made the guitar’s body bigger. d Travelling singers played the lute to go with their songs. A. d-b-c-a B. a-c-d-b C. d-a-c-b D. c-d-a-b 11. Why does the writer write the text? A. To discuss the invention of the guitar. B. To introduce the shapes of the guitar. C. To compare the players of the guitar. D. To show the development of the guitar. D ① It can be really awkward (尴尬的) if someone sees you talking to yourself. But don’t feel bad about it! Talking to yourself actually has a lot of benefits. ② When encouragement comes from oneself, it adds to self-confidence (自信). A 2009 study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers put the players into two groups: one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group. ③ Talking to yourself, especially in the third person, can also help us manage bad feelings. “Referring to (指代) yourself in the third person leads people to think about themselves more similar to how they think about others,” said Jason Moser, a professor from Michigan State University, US. This can help us see things more widely, from a different point of view, especially when we’re feeling sad or angry. ④ Self-talk also helps improve memory. Researchers tested four different ways to memorize things: reading silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. Those who read out loud recalled the information the best, researchers said in their study published (发布 ) in the journal Memory. It’s because the information is likely to become a long-term memory if said out loud. 12. What does the word “benefits” mean in Paragraph 1? A. Strange ideas. B. Special needs. C. Healthy ways. D. Good sides. 13. Why does the writer mention (提到) the study in Paragraph 2? A. To make tennis players confident. B. To ask tennis players to keep silent. C. To encourage tennis players to win the matches. D. To show that self-talk helps develop confidence. 14. Which way of self-talk can help people see things more widely? A. “What can Annie do to make the situation better?” B. “You are the strongest person I’ve ever met.” C. “I have tried my best. Just do what I can.” D. “Is there anything we can do for you?” 15. What’s the structure of this passage? A. B. C. D. 第二节(共5小题, 每小题2分, 满分10分) 阅读下面材料,从所给的A~E5个选项中选出正确选项(其中一项是多余选项),将其序号填入第1~4小题,并回答第5小题。 Using Community Service to Make a Difference A community service project can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and the community.
