The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most amazing places in the world. It is located off the coast of Queensland, Australia, and it is the largest coral reef system(珊瑚礁系统)on Earth.
The Great Barrier Reef is made up of more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands. It covers an area of about 344,400 square kilometers—almost the same size as Japan! The reef is home to a huge number of marine(海洋的)animals, including fish, turtles, dolphins and even whales. There are also more than 1,500 kinds of fish and 600 kinds of coral in the reef.
Many people come to visit the Great Barrier Reef every year. They enjoy activities like snorkeling(浮潜), diving and boating. By doing these activities, they can see the beautiful coral and colorful fish up close. However, the Great Barrier Reef is in danger now. Because of climate change, the water temperature is rising, which is bad for the coral. Some parts of the reef have already turned white and died.
To protect the Great Barrier Reef, the Australian government and many organizations are working hard. They are trying to reduce pollution and slow down climate change. It’s important for all of us to take action to protect this amazing place, so that future generations can also enjoy its beauty.

Machu Picchu is an ancient city in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It is often called the “Lost City of the Incas” because it was hidden from the world for hundreds of years.
Machu Picchu was built by the Inca Empire around the 15th century. However, after the Spanish arrived in Peru in the 16th century, the city was abandoned(遗弃). No one knew about it until 1911, when an American historian named Hiram Bingham found it.
The city is located on a high mountain ridge(山脊), about 2,430 meters above sea level. It is made up of more than 200 buildings, including temples, palaces and houses. All the buildings are made of large stones, and they fit together perfectly without using any cement(水泥). This is one of the most amazing things about Machu Picchu.
Today, Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist attractions in South America. Every year, more than 1 million people visit it. To get to Machu Picchu, most tourists take a train to the town of Aguas Calientes and then take a bus up the mountain. Some brave tourists even hike the Inca Trail, which takes about four days.

My Favorite Amazing Place
My favorite amazing place is the West Lake, which is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is famous for its beautiful scenery all year round. In spring, the willow trees by the lake turn green, and the peach blossoms bloom beautifully. In summer, the lotus flowers on the lake are in full bloom, looking very pretty. In autumn, the ginkgo trees around the lake turn golden, and the fallen leaves dance with the wind like little butterflies. In winter, if it snows, the whole lake is covered in white, making it look like a magical winter wonderland.
I love the West Lake not only because of its natural beauty but also because of its long history. There are many ancient stories and cultural relics related to it. For example, the Broken Bridge is one of the most famous spots here. It is said that the legendary story of "White Snake" happened on this bridge. Every time I stand on the Broken Bridge, I can almost imagine the touching scenes from the story. Besides, there are also old pavilions like the Mid-Lake Pavilion. Sitting in the pavilion, drinking a cup of Longjing tea (a famous local tea) and listening to the sound of water gently hitting the shore, I feel very peaceful and relaxed.
Last summer, I visited the West Lake with my family. We took a boat tour on the lake. The boat slowly glided across the water, and we saw fish swimming happily under the boat. The guide told us more interesting facts about the lake’s history and plants. When the sun set, the sky turned orange and pink, and the lake reflected the colorful sky—it was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen.
The West Lake is not just a place with beautiful views; it is a place that combines nature, history and culture. It always gives me a feeling of joy and calm. I believe it will remain my favorite amazing place forever.
