Passage1
The Legend of the White Snake
Long ago, there was a white snake living in the mountains. After a thousand years of hard practice, she turned into a beautiful lady named Bai Suzhen. She was kind and always ready to help others.
One day, she went to the West Lake in Hangzhou with her friend Xiaoqing. On the Broken Bridge, she met a kind young man named Xu Xian. They fell in love and soon got married.
But a monk named Fahai wanted to separate them. He told Xu Xian that his wife was a snake.
To save her husband, Bai Suzhen fought against Fahai. She even called up the wind and waves, and made the water flood the Jinshan Temple.
In the end, Fahai put Bai Suzhen under the Leifeng Pagoda by the West Lake. Many years later, her son saved her, and the family got together again.
Today, when travelers walk on the Broken Bridge or look at the Leifeng Pagoda, they still remember this moving love story.
1.On the Broken Bridge, she met a kind young man named Xu Xian.
分析:named Xu Xian 为过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰 man,相当于 who was named。
2.To save her husband, Bai Suzhen fought against Fahai.
分析:动词不定式 to save her husband 作目的状语;fight against 意为“与……
3.Today, when travelers walk on the Broken Bridge or look at the Leifeng Pagoda, they still remember this moving love story.

Passage2
The Tower of Babel
Long, long ago, all the people in the world spoke the same language. They could understand each other easily.
When they moved to a land in the east, they found a wide plain between two great rivers and decided to live there.
One day, they said to each other, "Let's build a great city and a tall tower. The top of the tower will reach the sky. Then we will be famous and never be separated." They wanted to show how clever and strong they were.
So they made bricks and started to build. The tower grew taller and taller day by day.
God saw the city and the tower. He thought the people were too proud. So he made them speak different languages. Suddenly, they could not understand each other, and the work stopped.
The city was called Babel. People later left the city and went to live in different parts of the world. The story tells us: without understanding, even the greatest dream cannot come true.

2.Then we will be famous and never be separated.
