B The 36-year-old Jia Juntingxian was born in Pingxiang, Jiangxi Province, and was blind in both eyes due to congenital(先天的)eye disease. She has shown athletic talent since childhood and was selected as a track and field athlete by Jiangxi Disabled Persons' Federation. Although she can't see the world, Jia broke through the “immediate” obstacles again and again while running, letting the world see her. In her sports career, Jia has won 43 national and world-class sports medals. Among them, in 2016, she broke the world record and stood on the podium(领奖台)of the women's T11-T13 4×100-meter relay event at the Rio Paralympics. In 2017, Jia retired and chose to become a teacher at a special education school. Just a year ago, she found out that two young brothers, with visual impairments(视觉障碍), wanted to be athletes. They had never attended a special education school and never achieved their athletic dream. Jia could only help them attend a local special education school. The experience made her realize that these children living in remote areas might have little knowledge of special education. Even she didn't know about such schools until late into her education. Therefore, she decided to become more involved with special education. Changing from a Paralympic competitor to a special education teacher, Jia said that there was no discomfort. “I understand the students as well as myself and know the inconveniences and difficulties of the children. I hope that every child is like a different seed.Through hard study, they can bravely realize their own life.” Jia also has paid close attention to the rights and interests of disabled people. In 2021, Jia proposed the construction of audible (听得见的) traffic signals for blind people. Her advice to local authorities on dog management has resulted in more indoor public places allowing the disabled to enter with their assistance dogs. Jia and her husband founded a massage(按摩)shop and currently employ 16 visually impaired people, with an average monthly salary of 3,500 yuan per person. Jia always believes that the world is a circle; as long as the love of others is constantly passed on, the whole society will be full of love! 24.What can we learn about Jia from the passage? A.She won 43 sports medals in her country. B.She was strong-minded despite her disability. C.She was good at sports at the age of 5. D.She never won national and world-class sports medals. 25.What made Jia decide to occupy herself in special education? A.The high salary of special education. B.Her wish to enrich her life after sports. C.The local government's need for special education. D.Her experience of helping two disabled brothers. 26.Which of the following best describes Jia's job on special education? A.Boring and dangerous. B.Devoted and selfless. C.Humorous and brave. D.Patient and generous. 27.What did Jia do to help the disabled? A.She constructed audible traffic signals. B.She set up a massage shop on her own. C.She advised increasing indoor public places. D.She provided employment opportunities for the blind. C The social media platform Instagram once made headlines for limiting likes in an effort to reduce the comparisons and hurt feelings resulting from attaching popularity to sharing content. “It's a small step in the right direction,” says Jacqueline Sperling, a psychologist who works with the youth that experience anxiety disorders. Social media has a reinforcing nature. The platforms are designed to be addictive and are related to anxiety, depression, and even physical illnesses. But what makes users come back for more even when it can literally make them feel sick? “The unknown outcome and the possibility of a desired outcome can keep users engaged with the sites,” Sperling says. “When the outcome is unpredictable, the behavior is more likely to repeat.” To boost self-esteem and feel a sense of belonging in their social circles, people post content with the hope of receiving positive feedback. FOMO—fear of missing out—also plays a role. Teenagers hope to keep track of friends' activities. Missing experiences can create anxiety and depression. The earlier teens start using social media, the greater impact they have on mental health. This is especially true for females. While teen males tend to express aggression physically, females do so by excluding others and sharing hurtful comments. Social media increases the opportunity for such harmful interactions. In addition, social media puts a lens filter (滤镜) on appearances and reality. When there's a filter applied to the digital world, it can be hard for teens to tell what's real and what isn't, which comes at a tough time for them physically and emotionally. We can benefit from social media platforms to some extent, as they allow people to stay in touch with family and friends around the world. Still, the platforms have opened a “Pandora's box” as they continue to evolve more quickly than we can research their impact. In addition to limiting likes, Sperling suggests social media platforms consider decreasing mass sharing. Regardless of how likely social media giants are to change their ways, though, individuals can take control of their own behavior. 28.Why does Instagram limit likes? A.To share more content. B.To increase its popularity. C.To ensure teens' well-being. D.To reduce teens' online time. 29.What does “Pandora's box” in Paragraph 6 imply? A.Social media can have a negative effect. B.People benefit from social media platforms. C.People get boxes of gifts from social media platforms. D.Social media opens a door for people to see the world. 30.Which of the following does Sperling agree with? A.Its lens filters help teens to tell the real world. B.Its unpredictable outcome attracts frequent visits. C.It is helpful to teens with anxiety and depression. D.It has a greater impact on female teens than male teens. 31.What will the author most probably talk about next? A.Advice on users' controlling mass sharing. B.Reasons for teens' posting addictions. C.Negative effects of harmful interactions. D.Ways of social media giants' management. D Researchers have discovered that limiting a certain enzyme(酶) can have a dramatic impact on protecting against the effects of Alzheimer's disease (阿尔茨海默病). The finding could lead to a new class of drugs that fight the disease. Much of the historical research into Alzheimer's disease(AD) has focused on plaques(斑块) that form in the brain, which recently, though, have been found not likely to be the direct cause of it. In seeking another way forward, a group of British researchers turned to an Australian study which showed having the gene for the production of an enzyme known as PDE4B was identified as a risk factor for developing Alzheimer's. With the intention of investigating how PDE4B might affect the brain, the UK team genetically modified(改造) mice with Alzheimer's to reduce PDE4B activity. The results are astonishing. First, the mice with Alzheimer's and normal PDE4B expression showed memory loss in the sense of direction, a distinctive characteristic of AD. But those that had the genetic modification to have few PDE4B activities showed no damage at all. The team also observed that inflammation (炎症), another hallmark of AD, decreased to some extent in the brains of mice with few PDE4B activities, compared to those with more of the enzyme. Because all of these effects were found in the mice that already had Alzheimer's and had significant improvement in symptoms, the researchers say that further investigation into how to limit PDE4B in human patients with the condition could lead to new treatment pathways. “These results offer real hope for the development of new treatments that will benefit patients with Alzheimer's disease in the future,” said Neil Dawson, a co-author of the study. “The next stage is to test whether PDE4B-limiting drugs have similar beneficial effects in the AD mouse model, and to test their potential effectiveness on humans with Alzheimer's disease.” 32.How did the British researchers get the inspiration? A.By figuring out the direct cause of AD. B.By going over much historical research. C.By referring to a previous Australian study. D.By breaking down PDE4B in the mouse with AD. 33.What can be learnt about PDE4B? A.Its activity promotes the sense of direction. B.It might bring about the development of AD. C.It is processed by a certain enzyme in the brain. D.It will be investigated to reduce mice's brain activity. 34.What does the underlined word “hallmark” in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Cause. B.Feature. C.Principle. D.Finding. 35.What do the last two paragraphs mainly talk about? A.The future research focus. B.The existing research background. C.The probable research limitation. D.The practical research application. As the saying goes, failure is the mother of success. Many of us were told from an early age that, at school or in life, we could learn from our mistakes. Is this actually true? The short answer is “yes”. 36 . Because we would not like to fail, learning from our mistakes is, in reality, very hard. It doesn't feel good. So we react to failure in emotional ways, like giving up on a task easily, telling ourselves we don't care whether we succeed, or finding fault with the task itself. This is self-protective, according to Hallgeir Sjastad, a psychology professor. In his opinion, most of us want to consider ourselves capable. 37 .    Fortunately there are strategies to help us overcome the emotional barriers. 38 . Instead of asking “Why did I fail?”, we could ask “Why did Sam fail?”, for example. Multiple studies show this way helps to soften our negative emotional reactions. Also it allows us to look at failure more objectively.      39 . This led to better levels of motivation and academic success in the test groups—involving both adults and children—that were asked to give advice based on their own failures. Professor Eskreis-Winkler found that the satisfaction of helping others “forces people to engage with their experience and what they have learned”.     The writer Samuel Beckett once said, “Fail again, fail better.” But it now seems that we should say, “Fail again, fail smarter.” 40 , but by learning to overcome the emotional barriers around it, we may find the road to success is a little easier to navigate (导航).  A.Everyone needs success B.Hard work leads to success C.Failure can be a teachable moment D.Failure is an unavoidable part of life E.One of them is to adopt a third-person point of view F.Next, offer advice to others in the same position as us G.So what failure causes is a serious threat to our self-image 36. 37. 38. 39. 40. “The erhu was like a toy when I was a child. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention. I was happy and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he could still afford a dream. My dream was to be a great athlete. By the time I was sixteen, I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the baseball field. And I was so lucky that my high school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me, but often told me “The dream is priceless.” However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular incident happened, which almost ruined my long-held dream. It was the summer holiday in Senior Two and a friend recommended me for a summer job. I was offered $12.25 per hour. Compared with the average $3.5, that was a big sum. I was so excited, because this meant a chance to have money in my pocket, certainly, money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mother. The prospect(前景)of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity. Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule. I didn't dare to tell my coach. I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage, “If you make your bed, you have to lie in it.” I decided to talk to my coach in person. After all, my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worthy of facing his disappointment. 注意:续写词数应为150个左右。 I gathered my courage and knocked at his door.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     That question reminded me of what my coach used to say.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               答案与解析 1.B 2.A 3.C 4.B 5.A 6.C 7.B 8.A 9.A 10.C 11.C 12.A 13.A 14.B 15.B 16.C 17.B 18.B 19.C 20.A 21.C 22.D 23.B 24.B 25.D 26.B 27.D 28.C 29.A 30.B 31.A 32.C 33.B 34.B 35.A 36.C 37.G 38.E 39.F 40.D 41.B 42.D 43.A 44.D 45.C 46.C 47.A 48.A 49.C 50.B 51.A 52.D 53.B 54.C 55.D 56.which 57.was held 58.as 59.based 60.with 61.appeared 62.strength 63.an 64.representatives 65.Usually 第二部分 阅读 第一节 A ◎语篇解读 本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了几款利用人工智能技术的应用程序及其功能。 21.C 推理判断题。根据Otter.ai部分的内容可知,Otter.ai能够录制Zoom和Google视频会议以及电话通话,使用人工智能自动录制这些录音,并按发言人进行拆分。它还能自动生成大纲,突出录音中的关键对话点,允许用户快速跳转至这些部分。由此可以推测,Otter.ai可以帮助完善会议纪要。故选C。 22.D 细节理解题。根据Google Assistant部分中的“The app is compatible with an entire suite of smart devices, including refrigerators, lights and cars.” 故选A。 30.B 细节理解题。根据第三段Sperling的话可知, 当结果不可预测时, 越有可能重复这种行为——频繁刷朋友圈。故选B。 31.A 推理判断题。根据最后一段中Sperling 建议社交媒体平台考虑减少大规模分享以及本段最后一句可知,接下来作者最有可能谈论有关用户控制大规模分享的建议。故选A。 D ◎语篇解读 本文是一篇说明文。研究人员发现,限制PDE4B酶可以免受阿尔茨海默病的影响。 32.C 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“a group of British researchers turned to an Australian study...”可知,英国研究人员是通过参考澳大利亚之前的一项研究获得灵感的。故选C。 33.B 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“having the gene for the production of an enzyme known as PDE4B was identified as a risk factor for developing Alzheimer's”可知,拥有产生PDE4B酶的基因被确定为患阿尔茨海默病的风险因素。第三段提到英国研究团队为了探究PDE4B如何影响大脑,对患有阿尔茨海默病的小鼠进行了基因改造,以降低PDE4B的活性,并观察到惊人的结果。综上可知,PDE4B可能会导致阿尔茨海默病的发展。故选B。 34.B 词义猜测题。根据文章第四段中的“a distinctive characteristic of AD(阿尔茨海默病的一个显著特征)”和“The team also observed that inflammation, another hallmark of AD”可知,hallmark与characteristic意思相近,意为“特征”。故选B。 35.A 主旨大意题。最后两段主要介绍了研究人员在观察到PDE4B的降低对阿尔茨海默病小鼠的症状有显著改善后,认为未来研究的重点将是进一步探究如何在人类阿尔茨海默病患者身上限制PDE4B,并测试PDE4B抑制药物的效果。故选A。 第二节 ◎语篇解读 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了如何克服自己的情绪障碍,从失败中吸取经验教训,从而获得进步。 36.C 根据第一段中的“we could learn from our mistakes. You can't afford to waste them.” I stood before him with my head down. “How much will you be paid?” he asked. “$12.25 per hour.” “Well,” he shrugged. “Is $12.25 an hour the price of a dream?” That question reminded me of what my coach used to say. Yes, the dream is priceless. It's stupid to earn pocket money at the expense of my dream. I held my head high and said firmly, “Sorry, Mr. Jarvis. I know what to do next.” My coach smiled with great satisfaction. That summer I dedicated myself to baseball training. And one year later, I obtained a baseball scholarship to the university.
