Unit 3 Welcome to our school!-Grammar
This Grammar section of Unit 3 in the 2024 Yilin English textbook for Grade 7 focuses on personal pronouns. It creates a context of introducing one's new school to friends and family, which is closely related to the unit topic "Welcome to our school!". Through observing sentences with personal pronouns in real - life - like situations, students will understand personal pronouns from three dimensions: form, meaning, and usage. They will also summarize the usage rules of personal pronouns and use them to talk about their new schools, classmates, and teachers, thus experiencing the joy of campus life.
教学目标
Students should be able to master the nominative and objective forms of personal pronouns.
They can accurately distinguish the concepts of subject and object and correctly use the nominative and objective forms of personal pronouns in practical situations.
Students will understand the usage of personal pronouns in English writing.
教学重难点
Helping students clearly distinguish when to use the nominative and objective forms in complex sentence structures, especially in sentences with multiple clauses or prepositional phrases. For example, in the sentence "The teacher told the students who were late to come to her office." students may be confused about the correct form of the pronoun.
Getting students to use personal pronouns accurately and fluently in oral and written communication, avoiding common mistakes like using the wrong form due to haste or carelessness.
1. Personal Pronouns
Definition: Personal pronouns are used to replace nouns that represent people or things to avoid repeating the nouns.
Nominative Form Usage:
When the pronoun acts as the subject of a sentence, we use the nominative form. For example, "She goes to school by bike every day." Here, "she" is the doer of the action "goes", so the nominative form is used.
In questions, the nominative form is also used as the subject. For example, "Who is singing in the classroom?"
Objective Form Usage:
When the pronoun is the object of a verb, we use the objective form. For example, "I saw him in the park yesterday." Here, "him" is the receiver of the action "saw".
When the pronoun is the object of a preposition, the objective form is used. For example, "The book is for you."
Order of Personal Pronouns:
In English, when several personal pronouns are used together in the singular, the general order is "you + he/she/it + I". For example, "You, he and I are good friends."
In the plural, the order is "we + you + they". For example, "We, you and they should work together."
教学过程
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students and start a simple conversation. For example, "Hello, class. I'm your English teacher. What's your name?" Call some students to answer and write their names on the blackboard. Then say, "Now, let's play a little game. I'll point to a name on the blackboard, and you need to use a sentence to describe this classmate. But instead of using his or her name, you should use a pronoun." For example, if the name is "Tom", the student may say, "He is tall." This activity can quickly draw students' attention and lead them to think about the use of pronouns.
2. Presentation (12 minutes)
Show two short passages about introducing the school and teachers on the PPT. The first passage can be like this: "This is our school. It is big and beautiful. Mr. Wang is our math teacher. He is very kind. Ms. Zhang is our Chinese teacher. She is very patient." The second passage can be about students' activities in school, such as "We have many interesting classes every day. I like PE class best. After class, we often play games together. They are very fun."
Ask students to read the passages carefully and circle all the personal pronouns they find. Then, divide the personal pronouns into two groups on the blackboard: nominative forms and objective forms. Guide students to observe the position of these pronouns in the sentences and try to summarize when to use the nominative form and when to use the objective form.
Explain the rules in detail:
For the nominative form, emphasize that it is used as the subject of the sentence, which is the doer of the action. Show more examples like "She reads books every evening." "They play football on weekends."
For the objective form, explain that it is used as the object of a verb or a preposition. Give examples such as "I love them." "Give the ball to him."
3. Practice (18 minutes)
Oral Practice:
Pair - work: Divide the students into pairs. Ask them to talk about their schools, teachers, and classmates. They should use as many personal pronouns as possible. For example, "My school is very nice. We have a big library. I often go there to read books. My English teacher is Ms. Li. She is very helpful. I like her very much." Walk around the classroom to monitor and offer help if necessary.
Role - play: Set up some situations, such as a new student coming to the school and asking an old student about the school facilities and teachers. The students need to play their roles and use personal pronouns in the conversation. For example, the new student may ask, "Can you tell me where the playground is?" The old student answers, "Sure. It's over there. We often play sports there."
Written Practice:
Provide some sentences on the PPT with blanks and ask students to fill in the blanks with the correct forms of personal pronouns. For example:
____ (I) am a student.
He likes ____ (we).
The book is for ____ (she).
____ (They) are playing basketball.
After students finish, ask them to exchange their papers with their partners and check each other's answers. Then, go through the answers together and explain the reasons for each answer.
4. Summary (3 minutes)
Recap the key points of personal pronouns, including the nominative and objective forms, their usage in sentences, and the order of personal pronouns when used together. Ask students if they have any questions or if there are still some points they don't understand. Encourage students to ask questions and clarify their doubts.
5. Homework Assignment (7 minutes)
Ask students to write a short passage about their schools, using at least 5 different personal pronouns. They should introduce their schools, teachers, classmates, and their favorite activities in school. This can help students further practice using personal pronouns in writing.
Tell students to review the knowledge of personal pronouns they learned today and be ready for a small quiz in the next class.
教学反思
After this class, I need to reflect on the following aspects:
Teaching Effectiveness: Check whether students have achieved the teaching objectives. Did most students master the nominative and objective forms of personal pronouns? Were they able to use them correctly in oral and written practice? If not, what were the reasons? Maybe the explanations were not clear enough, or the practice activities were not sufficient.
Student Participation: Evaluate the degree of students' participation in class activities. Were all students actively involved in pair - work, role - play, and oral and written practice? If some students were passive, how can I encourage them to participate more actively in the future? Maybe I can design more interesting activities or give more positive feedback to those students.
Teaching Methods: Consider whether the teaching methods used in this class were appropriate. Did the lead - in activity effectively arouse students' interest? Were the presentation and explanation methods easy for students to understand? Should I adjust the teaching methods in the next class to make the teaching more efficient? For example, I can use more vivid examples or multimedia resources to help students understand the usage of personal pronouns.
Based on the teaching reflection, I will make corresponding adjustments and improvements in future teaching to better meet the learning needs of students and improve the quality of teaching.
