教学过程
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students and show them some pictures of famous people who have overcome difficulties to achieve self - realization, such as Stephen Hawking, Helen Keller.
Ask students: "Do you know these people What do you think they have in common"
Encourage students to express their opinions briefly. This can arouse students' interest and lead to the topic of self - awareness and self - improvement.
2. Pre - reading (10 minutes)
Present some new words and phrases on the PPT, and explain their meanings and usages briefly. For example, when teaching "suppose", give sentences like "I suppose it will rain tomorrow." and let students imitate.
Divide students into pairs and ask them to discuss the following questions: "What do you think is the most important thing about yourself" "Have you ever faced any difficulties in accepting yourself"
After a few minutes, invite some pairs to share their discussions with the whole class.
3. While - reading (15 minutes)
Give out the reading materials related to self - awareness (such as a short passage about a person's journey of self - discovery). Let students read the passage quickly and answer the general question: "What is the main idea of this passage"
Then, let students read the passage carefully again. Set some detailed questions, such as "What challenges did the protagonist face" "How did he/she overcome these challenges"
Ask students to find relevant sentences in the passage to support their answers. After that, check the answers together and explain some difficult sentences in the passage. For example, if there is a sentence with the present perfect tense like "He has already realized the importance of self - acceptance.", explain the usage and meaning of the present perfect tense here.
4. Post - reading (10 minutes)
Organize a group discussion. Divide students into groups of four or five. The discussion topic is: "If you were the protagonist in the story, what would you do differently"
Each group selects a representative to report the group's discussion results. During the report, other students can ask questions or make comments.
Then, guide students to summarize the key points of self - awareness and self - acceptance mentioned in the reading and discussion, and write them down in their notebooks.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summarize the new words, phrases, and the main idea of the class with students. Emphasize the importance of self - awareness and self - acceptance.
Assign homework:
Ask students to write a short passage about their own experiences of self - discovery or self - acceptance, using at least five new words and phrases learned in this class and the present perfect tense.
Let students recommend a book or a movie related to self - awareness to their classmates, and write a brief introduction about it.
教学反思
After this class, I found that students were quite interested in the topic of self - awareness. The lead - in with pictures of famous people effectively attracted their attention. However, during the vocabulary teaching, some students still had difficulty in using new words correctly, especially those with complex usages. In future vocabulary teaching, more examples and practice activities should be designed.
In the reading part, most students could understand the general idea of the passage, but when answering detailed questions, some students had trouble finding accurate information. This may be due to insufficient reading skills training. In the future, more reading skills, such as skimming and scanning, need to be taught and practiced.
The group discussion in the post - reading part was relatively successful. Students actively participated and expressed their unique views. But in the future, more guidance can be given to make the discussion more in - depth and logical. Overall, through this class, students have a better understanding of self - awareness in terms of language learning, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and content delivery.
