I. Teaching Objectives
1. Knowledge Objectives
Students will master vocabulary related to Chinese cultural items and activities, such as “Chinese knot”, “Chinese opera”, “dragon dance”, etc.
Students will be able to use target sentence patterns to discuss travel plans and Chinese cultural elements.
2. Ability Objectives
Improve students’ listening and speaking skills through dialogue practice and picture description.

III. Teaching Procedures (45 minutes)
Step 1: Lead - in (5 minutes)
Activity: Show some pictures of famous Asian scenic spots (e.g., the Great Wall, the Palace Museum) and play a short video clip about Chinese traditional culture.
Purpose: Arouse students’ interest in Asian cultures, especially Chinese culture, and introduce the topic of the lesson.
Step 2: Vocabulary Learning (10 minutes)
Activity 1: Present the pictures of Chinese cultural items and activities from the textbook. Teach the new words one by one, including pronunciation, spelling, and meanings. For example, hold up a picture of “Chinese knot” and say, “This is a Chinese knot. It’s a traditional Chinese decorative item.”
Activity 2: Do a quick vocabulary drill. Show the pictures randomly and ask students to say the corresponding words. Then, reverse it: say the words and let students find the pictures in the textbook.
Purpose: Help students master the new vocabulary related to Chinese culture.
Step 3: Listening and Matching (10 minutes)
Activity: Let students listen to the descriptions of the Chinese cultural items and activities (as in the textbook task A). Then, ask them to match the names with the pictures. Play the audio twice if necessary. After that, check the answers together.
Purpose: Improve students’ listening skills and reinforce the vocabulary they just learned.
Step 4: Pair - work Dialogue Practice (12 minutes)
Activity 1: Introduce the dialogue situation from the textbook task B. Read the sample dialogue between Kevin and Millie with students.
Activity 2: Ask students to work in pairs. Let them create their own dialogues about travel plans in Asia, using the sample dialogue as a model. Encourage them to use the new vocabulary and sentence patterns. For example, students can change the travel destinations and cultural items to talk about.
Activity 3: Invite several pairs to perform their dialogues in front of the class. Give positive feedback and correct any mistakes.
Purpose: Develop students’ speaking skills and ability to use the language in real - life communication situations.
Step 5: Summary and Homework (8 minutes)
Summary: Review the key vocabulary and sentence patterns with students. Emphasize the importance of Chinese traditional culture and Asian cultures.
Homework:
Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite Chinese cultural item or activity, using the words and sentences learned in class.
Let students find more information about Asian cultures (e.g., Japanese cherry blossom festivals, Korean traditional dances) and prepare to share it in the next class.
