As I reflect on this significant event, a smile spreads across my face. As I think of Shanda, I feel loved and grateful. It was my twelfth year of dancing and I thought it would end up like any other year: stuck in emptiness, forgotten and without the belief of any teacher or friend that I really had the potential to achieve greatness. However, I met Shanda, a young, talented choreographer She influenced me to work to the best of my ability, pushed me to keep going when I wanted to give up, encouraged me and showed me the real importance of dancing. Throughout our hard work, not only did my ability to dance grow, but my friendship with Shanda grew as well. With the end of the year came our show time. As I walked to a backstage filled with other dancers, I hoped for a good performance that would prove my improvement. I waited anxiously for my turn. Finally, after what seemed like days, the loudspeaker announced my name. Butterflies filled my stomach as I took trembling steps onto the big lighted stage. But, with the determination to succeed and eagerness to live up to Shanda’s expectations for me, I began to dance. All my troubles and nerves went away as I danced my whole heart out. As I walked up to the judge to receive my first place shining, gold trophy (奖杯), I realized that dance is not about becoming the best. It was about loving dance for dance itself, a getaway from all my problems in the world. Shanda showed me that you could let everything go and just dance what you feel at that moment. After all the doubts that people had in me, I believed in myself and did not care what others thought. Thanks to Shanda, dance became more than a love of mine, but a passion. 4.What did the author think her dancing would be for the twelfth year? A.A change for the better. B.A disappointment as before. C.A proof of her potential. D.A pride of her teachers and friends. 5.How did Shanda help the author? A.By offering her help with money. B.By entering her in a competition. C.By awakening her passion for dancing. D.By coaching her for longer hours. 6.How did the author feel when she stepped on the stage? A.Nervous. B.Relaxed. C.Confused. D.Proud. 7.What can we learn from the author’s story? A.Success lies in patience. B.Fame is what the young long for. C.A good teacher really matters. D.A youth is to be treated with respect. 根据第二段“It was my twelfth year of dancing and I thought it would end up like any other year: stuck in emptiness, forgotten and without the belief of any teacher or friend that I really had the potential to achieve greatness. 根据第三段中“However, I met Shanda, a young, talented choreographer (舞蹈指导). She influenced me to work to the best of my ability, pushed me to keep going when I wanted to give up, encouraged me and showed me the real importance of dancing. 和最后一段中“Thanks to Shanda, dance became more than a love of mine, but a passion. 根据第四段中“Finally, after what seemed like days, the loudspeaker announced my name. Butterflies filled my stomach as I took trembling steps onto the big lighted stage. 故选A。 7. 根据第三段中“However, I met Shanda, a young, talented choreographer (舞蹈指导). C。 C Do you like doing exercise? Do you want to know the benefits from the exercise? Let’s learn something about exercise. Exercise is any action that gets you moving. You can run, ride a bike, swim, jump rope or row a boat. It’s all good for you! There are three kinds of exercise. One is stretching (拉伸). You may do this in dance, yoga or at the gym. When you stretch, you keep your muscles (肌肉) bendable (可弯曲的). Aerobic exercise (有氧运动) makes your heart beat fast. You get this kind of exercise when you walk or run. Your heart beats fast when you swim, too. The last kind of exercise makes your muscles strong. You build strong muscles when you lift weights. When you sprint or run fast, you make your muscles strong, too. You get exercise when you play tag and hide and seek. Leapfrog and ball games are also good to do. So go outside and have fun! If you keep on doing exercise, you will know the more exercise you do, the healthier and happier you will be. 8.What happens to your muscles when you stretch? A.They beat fast. B.They stay bendable. C.They break. D.They grow. 9.You can build strong muscles by _________. A.sleeping B.singing C.walking D.lifting weights 10.Which sentence is NOT TRUE according to the passage? A.When you stretch, you keep your muscles bendable. B.Aerobic exercise makes your heart beat fast. C.Leapfrog and ball games are not good for you to do. D.You build strong muscles when you lift weights. 11.From the text we know that ___________. A.there are only three kinds of exercise B.exercise is good for our health C.we can’t stretch our muscles by exercise D.we can only build our muscles by lifting weights 【答案】8.B 9.D 10.C 11.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据文章第二段“When you stretch, you keep your muscles bendable .(当你拉伸时,你的肌肉会保持柔韧性。)” 根据文章第三段“You build strong muscles when you lift weights. 根据文章第四段“Leapfrog and ball games are also good to do. 可知,C选项“Leapfrog and ball games are not good for you to do. 根据文章第二段“Exercise is any action that gets you moving. You can run, ride a bike, swim, jump rope or row a boat. It’s all good for you! 以及最后一段“If you keep on doing exercise, you will know the more exercise you do, the healthier and happier you will be. D Historic numbers of animals across the globe have become endangered or extinct. But, some of these species sit in limbo. They’re not conclusively extinct, yet they’re missing from the scientific record. Species are identified as “lost” when there hasn’t been a trace (痕迹) of them in 10 years, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. “Their populations are dropping in size, and that’s why they can’t be found. It means they are likely to be on the edge of extinction,” says Thomas Evans, a conservation scientist. There is a noticeable difference in which species are searched for and protected, as proved by a recent study co-led by Evans. The study indicates that “attractive” animals have better chances of being re-discovered. They tend to be large, cute or furry. This has allowed some “unattractive” lost species to disappear from human view when they might have been saved with measures such as habitat preservation. Historically, rodents (啮齿动物) have been one group of animals most affected by this difference. Biologist Tyrone Lavery spent 14 years studying a “lost” species: the Vangunu giant rat (老鼠), known to the people of the Vangunu Islands as “vika”. Lavery’s hard efforts paid off after he planted camera traps around the forest for six months and finally got photographic evidence (证据). Since his research came out, there haven’t been any official moves to protect the rat. In fact, before his work was published, the government had allowed more logging (伐木作业) around the vika’s habitat. But shortly after it was published, Lavery said, “All of a sudden, they’ve removed their machines, and pulled out. So officially, nothing’s happened. But it seems like there’s been a little bit of change.” While the vika could be on their way to getting vital protection, the same may not be true for all “unattractive” animals. People are often eager to go and look for large cats or other really “attractive” animals, and many people haven’t even heard of a vika. It is sad because all species on our planet are valuable. 12.What does the underlined part “sit in limbo” in paragraph 1 most probably mean? A.grow healthily. B.come to extinction. C.are in an uncertainty. D.stay under poor protection. 13.Which is a finding of the study co-led by Thomas Evans? A.Humans seem to love lovable animals more. B.The data about lost species is not reliable (可信的). C.Preservation efforts now are far from enough. D.Species became lost mostly due to human activities. 14.What was a result of Tyrone Lavery’s vika research? A.Rules were set to assist scientists. B.The vika received unofficial protection. C.The government didn’t allow cutting down trees. D.More logging was carried out around the vika’s habitat. 15.What message does the author want to deliver in the last paragraph? A.Appearance doesn’t matter. B.The more species, the better. C.Every species is worth protecting. D.Protecting the Earth takes everyone. 根据第一段划线词后文“They’re not conclusively extinct, yet they’re missing from the scientific record.(它们并没有确凿地灭绝,但在科学记录中却消失了。)” 根据第三段“The study indicates that ‘attractive’ animals have better chances of being re-discovered.(研究表明,‘有吸引力’的动物有更大的机会被重新发现。)” 故选A。 14. 根据倒数第二段“But shortly after it was published, Lavery said, ‘All of a sudden, they’ve removed their machines, and pulled out. So officially, nothing’s happened. But it seems like there’s been a little bit of change’.(但在它发表后不久,Lavery说,‘突然之间,他们把机器搬走了,撤走了。 根据最后一段“It is sad because all species on our planet are valuable.(这很可悲,因为我们星球上的所有物种都是有价值的。)” Are you thinking about holidaying alone, but a bit concerned about the dangers? You needn’t worry if you consider these tips first. 1. Safety Unless you positively invite danger, for example, wandering around a dark park at 3 a.m. with headphones on, travelling alone isn’t actually that risky. 16 In the case of taking taxis, always keep a record of the plate number and ask for an estimated fare (车费) before setting off. You should also carry your ID card with you and always keep a back-up. And most importantly, ensure that someone else knows your route and keep in regular contact with them. 2. Plan Being alone means you can’t use your partner’s phone when yours runs out of power, or depend on others if you lose your wallet. 17 It’s a good idea to write down some key numbers of friends, hotels and emergency services beforehand, and keep some back-up money in your bag, just in case. 3. Eating Many single travelers have a fear of eating alone. 18 You can bring a book to avoid boredom, sit at counters to be less noticeable or use the opportunity to practice your foreign language on a waiter. 4. Making friends 19 This is another common concern when travelling alone. In fact, acquiring new companions is easier than feared. You can smile at people, have open body language, read something interesting to start conversation, or ask strangers a question. All these help you look approachable. More hands-on tips include visiting bars, joining tours or using apps designed to help people make friends. 5. Enjoy it Without having to consider others’ needs, the joy of solo travel is that you can be entirely selfish: walk at your preferred pace, eat what and when you want, and go wherever you like to see the sights that interest you. 20 . A.What if no one likes me on my trip? B.Just enjoy your independence and freedom. C.The biggest danger is being taken for a ride. D.It’s actually not so hard to get over your fear. E.You needn’t tell anyone else if this really happens. F.However well you plan in advance, things will go wrong. G.So put emergency systems in place before starting your trip. 16.由上文“Unless you positively invite danger, for example, wandering around a dark park at 3 a.m. with headphones on, travelling alone isn’t actually that risky. 和下文“In the case of taking taxis, always keep a record of the plate number and ask for an estimated fare before setting off. 可知,本空应进一步说明独自旅行可能存在的危险,所以C项“The biggest danger is being taken for a ride. 17.由上文“Being alone means you can’t use your partner’s phone when yours runs out of power, or depend on others if you lose your wallet. 和下文“It’s a good idea to write down some key numbers of friends, hotels and emergency services beforehand, and keep some back-up money in your bag, just in case. 可知,本空应说明在独自旅行前应做好应急准备,所以G项“So put emergency systems in place before starting your trip. 18.由上文“Many single travelers have a fear of eating alone.(许多独自旅行的人都害怕一个人吃饭。)”和下文“You can bring a book to avoid boredom, sit at counters to be less noticeable or use the opportunity to practice your foreign language on a waiter. 可知,本空应说明克服独自吃饭的恐惧并不难,所以D项“It’s actually not so hard to get over your fear. 19.由下文“This is another common concern when travelling alone. In fact, acquiring new companions is easier than feared. You can smile at people, have open body language, read something interesting to start conversation, or ask strangers a question. All these help you look approachable. 可知,本空应提出一个关于独自旅行时结识新朋友的担忧,所以A项“What if no one likes me on my trip? 20.由上文“Without having to consider others’ needs, the joy of solo travel is that you can be entirely selfish: walk at your preferred pace, eat what and when you want, and go wherever you like to see the sights that interest you. 可知,本空应总结独自旅行的自由和快乐,所以B项“Just enjoy your independence and freedom. As a father, Anthony Burgess knows teenagers’ growth is full of challenges and problems.
