(202s·渐江温州三模)Power of Public Speaking has partnered with ASI Innovation Labs to
integrate artificial intelligence into the Pops Classroom platform for improving public speaking skills.
The first project is the Pops Advisor which provides an automatic evaluation of students'video
presentations with visual feedback.
The Advisor offers on-demand comments to students practicing public speaking from anywhere. This
flexibility benefits instructors, who can be as hands-on or hands-off during practice. While students can
operate autonomously with the tool, instructors can also choose to keep track of students'progress.
Criteria
Using machine learning models, the Pops Advisor analyzes the following criteria:

(202s·四川自员三模)At18,British writer Lara Prior-Palmer chose an extraordinary path:
the Mongol Deroy,an extremely challenging 1,000-kilometer horse race across Mongolia's wilderness.
In her first book,Rough Magic,Prior-Palmer describes her ride in all its pain, boredom, and
ultimate success."Somehow,"she writes at the beginning,"against all the odds,I won a race labeled
the longest and toughest in the world and became the youngest person, and first female, ever to have
done so."Yet her story avoids overused phrases of self-praise,balancing vivid landscapes with honest
words about painful saddle()wounds and bad-smelling outdoor toilets, making it an unusual
pleasure to read.
For much of the book, she and her horses-25 in all,a new horse every 40 km-drag slowly
with great effort across a landscape that resists Prior-Palmer's sight. She's especially gifted
with metaphor()-when it rains,"there appears a smooth path behind us,as though the earth is
water and we have been fish, until now,"and the clouds are "piled high as if lining up for a funeral".
For every gorgeous metaphor, there's a pair of wet riding trousers or a toilet that's only "a smelly hole
in the ground with wet boards above to stop you from slipping into it."
By the end of Rough Magic,Prior-Palmer is amazed by the land around her."Living in
desertion,"she writes,"the land knows what I don't:no one can carve a story into earth or sky.The
wind sweeps the clouds away;the stage clears for another day."She keeps competing, while trying to
persuade herself to be more patient, and humbler. Her final hope is not to win the race-though she
wants that,too-but to let the race make her free.
Rough Magic seems to stand as proof that she succeeded. And as I read it from the
skyless comfort of my couch,I briefly felt a bit freer, too.
()1.How did Prior-Palmer feel about her performance in Mongol Derby?
A.Unsatisfied.
B.Pitiful.
C.Expected.
D.Proud.
(
)2.What is the language style of Rough Magic?
A.Plain.
B.Humorous.
C.Descriptive.
D.Logical.
)3.Why does the land impress Prior-Palmer?
A.It blocks heavy winds.
B.It mirrors human evolution.
C.It varies with time and weather.
D.It is inclusive and ever-changing.
)4.What is Rough Magic about?
A.A bittersweet journey.
B.A well-grounded theory.
C.An inspiring fairy tale.
D.An impressive landscape.

(2025·江苏南京阶段测试)In the Alps and Apennines of southern Europe, longhorn beetles
are moving uphill, and a rare brown butterfly with orange-tipped wings is facing extinction due to
isolation at high peaks. This is a picture of a global trend. With temperatures rising and pressure on
biodiversity growing, insects vital to our ecosystems are not only moving north and south, but up.
Research shows many animals are making similar moves, but insects'high levels of mobility
and short generation times allow them to respond quickly to change.Bumblebees in the
Pyrenees have moved upwards on average by more than a metre a year, with some species
making significantly greater journeys. All of this shows the speed of climate change and its ecological
impacts at higher altitudes.
In ecology, finding the "smoking gun"to neatly explain any phenomenon is generally difficult.
Prof.Christy McCain, who runs Colorado University's Mountain Lab,said,"One thing that people
don't think about as much is context:how climate affects insects at different life stages, such as eggs
and larvae().Measuring adults in summer might not reveal the most critical impacts of
climate change, especially in cold and dry mountain environments."
McCain believes the way data has been collected historically is preventing their understanding,
with too many museum specimens from low altitudes, and far fewer from higher up.And many groups
other than butterflies and moths()have been neglected.
To support her view, she cites research on carrion beetles by a student in her lab.The
study shows that climate tolerance might be passed down in these impacts, which play a key role in
decomposition and protect them from extreme conditions.Their long history since the Cretaceous(
also aids their adaptation today.
There is no such thing as a standard insect or response to environmental change. For some
groups,it might be a case of the bigger and more mobile they are,the better their chances. There is
also no universal upland habitat and this too could prove a saving grace.
()1.Bumblebees in the Pyrenees are mentioned because
A.they are more mobile than other insects B.they have adapted well to higher altitudes
C.they are a useful indicator of climate change D.they face extinction due to upward movement
()2.Which statement may McCain agree with according to Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A.Study context is beyond grasp.
B.Research data are hard to obtain.
C.Insect samples are unrepresentative.
D.The collection method is unconventional.
()3.Why does McCain cite research on carrion beetles?
A.To argue for their sensitivity to environmental changes.
B.To call for the protection of insects from higher altitudes.
C.To redirect focus from insects moving uphill to those downhill.
D.To offer new insights into insects'adaptation to climate change.
()4.What does "a saving grace"in the last paragraph mean?
A.A method used to collect data.
B.A problem that needs to be solved.
C.A feature that helps improve a situation.D.A type of insect that adapts well to change.

(2025·福建泉州阶段测试)We tend to think of large cities as melting pots一places where people
from all sorts of backgrounds can associate and interact. But according to a new research, people in
big cities tend to primarily interact with other individuals in the same socioeconomic level, while people
in small cities and rural areas are much more likely to have diverse interactions.
A team of researchers led by Stanford University used GPS data collected from 9.6 million
cellphones in the United States to determine how often people of different socioeconomic
statuses crossed paths during the day.
After inferring each person's socioeconomic status from estimated rental prices on a
housing marketing website, the researchers counted potential interactions between users over
the course of the day-times where two cellphones had GPS pings()within 50 meters of each
other within a five-minute window.They collected data on almost 1.6 billion path-crossings.The
researchers found a clear pattern that has been missed by similar studies in the past:large
cities contributed to socioeconomic segregation.
"That seems like an unexpected observation,"said Jure Leskovec,a professor of the team,"But
there is a large variety of choices in big cities. In New York, you can spend $10 or $1,000 on a
dinner, while if you live in a place with only one restaurant, everyone goes there, rich or poor.
That seems to be the main mechanism for this phenomenon."
The good news is,there are ways to build cities to have more socioeconomic mixing.Looking at
large cities, the researchers found that those that placed frequently-visited activity centres in between
different neighborhoods-instead of in the centre of each neighborhood-were less segregated.
"We've long emphasised residential integration, but we now have a new way,"said Grusky,
a member of the research team."When new shopping centres and other activity centres are up for
approval,we need to make sure they're located in places that will promote diversity."
()1.What helps the researchers reach their conclusion?
A.Studying people's interaction duration.B.Assessing residents'living distances.
C.Surveying phone users in person.
D.Analysing GPS data from cellphones.
)2.What does the underlined word "segregation"mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Integration.
B.Development.
C.Division.
D.Imbalance.
()3.Why is "restaurant"mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A.To predict effects.
B.To illustrate the finding.
C.To present a solution.
D.To make comparisons.
(
)4.What does Grusky propose doing to promote socioeconomic mixing in cities?
A.Limiting choices in large cities.
B.Increasing the number of restaurants.
C.Enhancing the taste of community activities.
D.Placing activity centres in diversity-rich areas.
