(2025·甘肃白银阶段测试)My Penguin Friend is what you'd expect from an animal picture.
Except that it's better-lifted by a smart screenplay, sensitive direction and a truly beautiful
performance by Jean Reno.
It's based on a real-life event that happened about 15 years ago in a small village in Brazil.A
retired fisherman named Joau, rescued a Magellanic penguin who'd been covered in oil following a
tanker oil spill. He cleaned up the penguin and nursed him back to full health with a daily diet of
fish. After some months, the penguin went back into the water and continued his usual penguin life.
But the penguin reunited with Joau again. He swam over 5,000 miles, from Patagonia to Brazil,
for eight years in a row.And each time he stayed for several months.
My Penguin Friend takes that framework and decorates it with fictional elements that
reflect Joau's sadness.Joau, played by Jean Reno, has been saddened many years over his late son.
This has become a hidden barrier between him and the world, but something about caring for this
animal brings a part of him back to life.
Something in the way director David Schurmann films the penguin brings out the animal's
essential dignity. At heart,My Penguin Friend is about the dignity of all species of living things, and
it's a call to humanity to do right by the animals with whom we share the planet. It's not only about
what people should do for animals, but about what animals do for us and how they can reconnect us
with the natural world.
My Penguin Friend might not hold the interest of younger viewers. There's a whole
subplot centering on a penguin research team that really eats into the runtime without being all that
appealing. While its rigid dialogue and stretches of awkward silence might not bother younger viewers
the way it bothers me,they certainly impact the pacing, inviting restlessness and phone-checking.But
it builds in emotion and becomes genuinely heart-warming.
()1.What is My Penguin Friend mainly about?
A.A rescue of an oil-covered penguin.
B.A man's deep friendship with a penguin.
C.A call for humans to protect wild animals.D.A team's extensive research into penguins.
(
)2.What can we learn about Joau from Paragraph 3?
A.He regretted releasing the penguin too early.B.He pleased his son by raising the penguin.
C.He had some misunderstanding of folks.D.He took great comfort from the penguin.
()3.What does the author think of My Penguin Friend?
A.It is lacking in pace.
B.It is full of surprises.
C.It takes too long to play.
D.It has too much dialogue.
()4.What type of writing is the text?
A.A news report.
B.A movie review.
C.A children's story.
D.A documentary advert.

(2025·重庆三模)On the surface,.Pendle Food for All(PFFA)might seem like an
ordinary membership charity organization. But the liveliness the place has at its weekly Thursday
opening times sets it far apart. It's a warm and welcome environment with a unique feeling, offering a
place for volunteers and members alike to socialize, gain confidence, and make friends.
PFFA has a vital role to play in supporting the people of the local area, especially in these times of
increasing hardship. As is clear immediately upon walking inside, this isn't a traditional food bank.In
fact,it functions rather like a supermarket,as trustee()Vicki Devonport is keen to explain.
"People get 10 points to spend, and most items are worth a point-things like meat, dairy, sanitary
products,as well as essentials such as bread, sugar and eggs,"says Vicki."Because we want to
encourage healthy eating, there tends to be multiple fruits and vegetables per point, and, simply due
to how expensive they have become,we have to ration(some items like oil by making them two
points. It's really good though, people can get about f15-f20 worth of goods from us weekly! It gives
our members a bit of choice, and that choice brings an added sense of dignity."
PFFA really is a brilliant project.Given the significant impact PFFA has had on local
Pendle communities,it is hardly a surprise that they won BBC Radio Lancashire's Community
Group Award back in December,2022.And with that award will hopefully come well-deserved
recognition and support.
The food club operates from 10:30 a.m.to 2:30 p.m.on Thursday at The Zone,Nelson.Support
is always welcomed, and, with the inconsistent nature of business funding and commitment, every
little really does help."Generally,we're looking for people who can commit,"Vicki explains,"from
trustees with skills in marketing and social media,to businesses ready to make a monthly
commitment."Contact details can be found on the home page of the PFFA website.
()1.What does PFFA seem like?
A.A community group.
B.A traditional food bank.
C.A charitable supermarket.
D.An ordinary organization.
()2.What can we know about PFFA in Paragraph 3?
A.It requires the food to be the same price.
B.It automatically delivers food to people.
C.It sets a higher price for meat than for oil.
D.It balances the choice of goods and healthy eating.
()3.Why is the award mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A.To inspire the official recognition.
B.To highlight PFFA's great impact.
C.To introduce the local community.
D.To describe PFFA's establishment.
()4.What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?
A.Call for more support.
B.Attract new members.
C.Promote the website.
D.Show the operation time.

(2025·河北邢台二模)For humans,aging is unavoidable.But axolotls(蝾频),those cute smiling
animals of pop culture fame, seemingly avoid this fate to a point.
In a phenomenon called "neoteny",axolotls never outgrow their initial stage, looking like
oversized babies as adults. Not only do they look youthful, with feathery structures and
distinctive characteristics, but these critically endangered Mexican species also experience few physical
declines and diseases, and they can regenerate their limbs, tails, and even other organs over their 21-
year lifespan.For that reason,human-bred axolotls,which are a light pink in color,are common
research subjects for biologists, who have long been fascinated by their ability to fight aging.
Now,a new study reveals one more mystery about these curious creatures.Their bodies stop one
of the key mechanisms of aging一the epigenetic clock(表观遗传时钟)一when they're just four years
old.An epigenetic clock estimates an animal's age based on how life events, such as stress or diet,
turns its genes on and off.If an animal has experienced a lot of physical and mental pain, for instance,
its epigenetic or biological age could be much older than its real age.
The findings could be one more step in the long quest to discover effective anti-aging treatments
for humans, such as reducing inflammation(),according to the study published on bioRxiv,a
website where studies are posted without peer review.Chasing youth is a popular goal:The anti-
aging market, valued at $40 billion,is estimated to hit $60 billion by 2032.What's more,
understanding axolotl genetics could inspire medicines for regenerating cells, muscles,or maybe even
arms and legs.
"It is a great leap forward in aging and regeneration,"says James Godwin,an immunologist at
the MDI Biological Laboratory in Maine who was not involved in the new study."If the
mechanisms can be understood, then many opportunities to improve human health could present
themselves.”
The study team examined 180 axolotls from four weeks to 21 years of age.Hopefully, research on
large scales is in store for future dedicated scientists.
(
)1.What is a feature of axolotls due to "neoteny"?
A.They experience rapid aging.
B.They have a higher risk of disease.
C.They maintain a young appearance.
D.They undergo a few dramatic body changes.
(
)2.Which factor of an animal can affect its epigenetic clock?
A.Its size.
B.Its color.
C.Its habitat.
D.Its suffering.
(
)3.What does James Godwin think of the study?
A.It is thorough.
B.It is promising.
C.It is one-sided.
D.It is misunderstood.

A.Diet.
B.Finance.
C.Psychology.
D.Biology.
