I. Teaching Objectives
Knowledge Objectives
Students can master the structure of writing an article about their best friend (introduction, main body, conclusion).
Students can use appropriate vocabulary and expressions to describe their best friends.
Ability Objectives
Improve writing skills by following the model to compose an article.
Enhance oral expression skills through pair discussions.
Emotional Objectives
Deepen students’ feelings towards their best friends.
Cultivate students’ ability to appreciate and express the good qualities of friends.
II. Teaching Key Points & Difficult Points
Key Points
Master the writing structure for describing best friends.
Use vivid vocabulary and expressions in writing.

Write a coherent and interesting article with detailed descriptions.
Properly use comparative and descriptive language.
III. Teaching Procedures
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Activity: Show Millie’s article “My best friend” on the PPT. Ask students: “What information does Millie include in her article? (e.g., appearance, character)”.
Purpose: Introduce the writing task and let students understand the elements of such an article.
2. Analyzing the Model (10 minutes)
Structure Analysis: Break down Millie’s article into parts:
Introduction: Who the best friend is and how they met.
Main body: Appearance, character, and best qualities.
Conclusion: Feelings towards the best friend.
Language Analysis: Pick out useful expressions like “I first met... years ago”, “... is taller than me”, “... is helpful/patient”.
Purpose: Let students learn the writing structure and useful language.
3. Pre - writing (15 minutes)
Task D1: Have students answer the questions in D1 about their best friends. Walk around to help students who have difficulties.
Pair Sharing: Students share their answers with their partners. Encourage them to add more details during the sharing.
Purpose: Organize ideas and collect materials for writing.
4. Writing Process (20 minutes)
Guided Writing: Ask students to write their articles following Millie’s model. Remind them to use the structure and expressions learned.
Individual Writing: Students write independently. Provide necessary help when students encounter problems.
Purpose: Improve students’ writing skills through practice.
5. Peer Review and Sharing (10 minutes)
Peer Review: Students exchange their articles and check each other’s:
Whether the structure is complete.
Whether the descriptions are vivid.
Whether there are grammar mistakes.
Class Sharing: Select several articles to share in class. Give positive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Purpose: Improve writing through peer evaluation and boost students’ confidence.
6. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary: Recap the writing structure and key expressions for describing best friends.
Homework:
Polish the written article.
Share their articles with their best friends and get feedback.
