What is a “cat café”? Well, it is a café that has cats. People can touch the cats, play with the cats and drink coffee there. In Taipei, China in 1998, the world’s first cat café opened its doors.
It seems that there are more and more pet cats around us today, and that’s true. There are 58,100,000 pet cats in China now. The number of cat owners in China is the second largest in the world after the United States. One important reason is that more young people are taking cats as pets. Maybe that’s because they are clean and you don’t have to walk them every day. Cats also bring jobs. Many people now work at pet shops and pet hospitals.
But cats can be problems, too. Some people may throw their pet cats away. They become homeless. They can pass on diseases. They also hunt and kill other small animals like birds and frogs. So in some countries, like Japan and Australia, the governments take homeless cats to animal hospitals. Doctors operate on them. So the cats can’t have babies any longer. In this way, the number of cats will not go up out of control.

C. Because more people work at pet shops. D. Because cats are clean and easy to keep.
35. What does the last paragraph talk about?
A. To keep pet cats or not. B. Popular cat coffee shops.
C. Why not take cats as pets. D. Problems cats may cause.
D
Puberty (青春期) is a stage (阶段) of life when young people leave childhood and head into adulthood. It is a difficult time for young people because it changes both their bodies and minds.
A young person may begin puberty at 8, while another may not start puberty until 14 or 15. Usually, girls start puberty before boys do. For both girls and boys, it is usually complete by the age of 18.
During these years, the body develops in many ways. Feelings will also change quickly. Young boys at this stage are interested in having fun. They need to think before they act and make up their minds for themselves.
A girl’s personality (个性) often does not develop in the same way as a boy’s. Young girls sometimes lose confidence in themselves. They are usually afraid to tell their parents or teachers about their problems. For this reason, young girls should be encouraged to talk about things with trusted adults.
Parents, schools and communities (社区) can do a lot to care for and help young people. It is their responsibility (责任) to make sure that young people grow into healthy adults.
36. Why is puberty a difficult time for young people?
A. Because it makes young people work like adults.
B. Because it makes children dislike their parents.
C. Because it changes both their bodies and minds.
D. Because it begins at very different ages for everyone.
37. When does puberty usually end for both boys and girls?

Question: How did you get to school when you were young?
I walked to school with my friends. I enjoyed walking because we could chat on the way. I didn’t like it when it was raining. On the other hand, I became a strong walker, and I believe that’s why I’ve been healthy all my life.
Question: My parents drive me to school. Why didn’t you go to school by car?
You know, I was not rich enough at that time. I could not afford a car until after a long time I had finished school.
Question: How did you get around when you weren’t going to school?
We often went for a family trip by train. Most weekends I went for picnics and played with my cousins in the park when I was in middle school. The trip took much longer than it would take by car today of course.

Hi, I’m Victor. I did some short interviews (采访) with people in my neighborhood to finish my history project on ways of transportation (交通). My first interview was with my friend’s grandmother, Mrs. Anderson.
Question: How did you get to school when you were young?
I walked to school with my friends. I enjoyed walking because we could chat on the way. I didn’t like it when it was raining. On the other hand, I became a strong walker, and I believe that’s why I’ve been healthy all my life.

You know, I was not rich enough at that time. I could not afford a car until after a long time I had finished school.
