As spring arrives and days get longer, many people start to notice there’s a change in how they feel. The warm air, beautiful flowers, and enjoyable sunlight make us feel more energetic and active. But why does this happen? How does sunlight affect our mood?
Many studies show that sunlight, temperature and humidity (湿度) can all affect our mental (心理的) health. One of the most important influences is sunlight, which plays a key role in controlling (控制) our body clock, the natural 24-hour cycles that affect sleep, energy and mood.
When we experience more sunlight, our brains produce fewer chemicals that make us sleepy and more that help us feel good. That’s why longer days in spring and summer often lead people to a better mood, higher energy and greater well-being. However, when there’s not enough sunlight in winter, many people start feeling worse. They have low energy, feel sad or hopeless, and have difficulty in focusing. The good news is when days get longer in spring, these feelings often get better.
As we welcome the spring, here are several ways that we can make the most of spring’s longer days and better weather.
Spend time outdoors. We can go hiking or do gardening, where we can enjoy the natural beauty while getting sunlight. Sunlight helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, which is good for our bone health and mood.
Exercise regularly. When we do physical activities, our body produces chemicals that make us feel happy. And if we exercise outdoors, sunlight could make us feel even better.
Practice mindfulness. It is a great idea to take a moment to have fun in spring, whether listening to birdsong, or feeling the warmth of the sunlight. We can stop for a while and focus on what’s around us, enjoying these moments.
Keep a balanced routine. We’d better wake up earlier and get ready for a rest as the sun sets to match our day with natural light. Staying up late is harmful to us.
In a word, the arrival of spring and the longer sunlight hours give us a natural treatment for winter blues. Weather, especially sunlight, surely affects mood and mental health. So as the season changes, go outside, feel the sun on your skin, and let the energy lift your mood. Remember: spending time in nature can make you happier and healthier.
24.What may people experience if they don’t have enough sunlight in winter?
A.Being full of energy. B.Being more focused.

C
Food plays an important role in keeping us healthy. Different cultures have their own healthy eating traditions. In Mediterranean countries, people eat lots of fresh vegetables, olive oil and fish. In Japan, meals often include rice, seafood and miso (味噌) soup. These traditional diets all share one thing in common—they include (包含) all kinds of natural foods.
For teenagers, developing good eating habits is especially important because their bodies are still growing. Eating different kinds of food provides all the nutrients they need. Colorful fruits and vegetables give us vitamins and fiber (纤维), while meat, eggs and beans provide protein (蛋白质) for muscle growth. Whole grains (谷物) like brown rice and whole wheat (小麦) bread give us long-lasting energy. However, eating too much junk food like chips, candy and fast food can lead to health problems and make you feel tired.
Experts suggest following the “healthy plate” rule: fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, one quarter with whole grains, and one quarter with protein foods like fish, chicken or tofu. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water instead of sugary drinks! Remember, what you eat changes not just your physical health but also your mood and ability to learn in school. By making smart food choices every day, you’ll have more energy to study, play sports and enjoy life!
27.According to the passage, what is a common thing of traditional healthy diets?
A.They have all fast food and vegetables. B.They include all kinds of natural foods.
C.They don’t include fruits and grains. D.They mainly include meat and bread.
28.The word “nutrients” in Paragraph 2 most probably means _________.
A.delicious tastes B.things in food that keep us healthy

29.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To teach how to cook traditional foods.
B.To explain why junk food is unhealthy.
C.To compare different countries’ eating habits.
D.To encourage healthy eating habits for teenagers.

We spent the next three days in the train and they were the most exiting days of my life. We saw Paris, London, Rome, Venice and many other places. We ate French pancakes, British fish and chips and Italian pizza. We heard the music of different countries. Thank you, Dad, for a wonderful holiday!

第二部分

阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Travel Adventures
As a young man, I had many exciting travel adventures. I became a pilot and flew planes across Canada. I rode horses across Central Asia. I hiked the amazing valleys of Patagonia. I enjoyed these adventures, but I began to worry that they didn’t mean anything if I wasn’t also trying to protect these natural spaces. But how? After I went to Antarctica, I knew the answer.
At the age of 16, I was the youngest person to reach Antarctica. It is beautiful there—every part looks like a postcard! I made so many friends on the trip, and I learned so much. On the way there, something happened on the ship. And it helped me decide what I wanted to do next.
Our ship traveled through a storm for six days. On day seven, we saw Antarctica. While I was standing on the deck, I saw whales. They were swimming around us for about 30 minutes, gently touching the ship with their heads and having fun. I was very excited! It made me think of the first time I saw whales when I was windsurfing. That was a special moment I will always remember.
During the trip, I learned that at one time in history, there were not many whales left—they almost disappeared. I didn’t want to live in a world without whales! In that moment, I knew I wanted to be a storyteller to make other people feel what I felt when I saw the whales.
I know that storytelling can be a powerful way to connect people with nature. Stories might encourage people to protect the beautiful places and amazing animals. However, storytelling alone might not be enough. Just hearing stories doesn’t always make people take action. People might feel encouraged but still not do anything to help. Protecting nature needs more than just words. It needs laws, money, and people working together to make real changes.
Storytelling is a great start. I know that not everybody can travel around the world. You can understand and connect with the natural world where you live. Just look around and explore. What plants and animals do you see where you live? How do you feel about them? What stories do you want to tell? And most importantly, what actions can you take to protect them?
37.Where did the writer go at the age of 16?
38.How did he feel when he saw the whales swimming around the ship?
39.What did he want to do when he learned whales almost disappeared in history?
40.Do you think storytelling is a good way to help protect the natural world? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.)

There was a shed (棚) in the garden. Dad started going there every day, but he put paper over the windows and locked the door so we didn’t find out his plan. He brought boxes home and put many things in the shed. It was very strange.
Then one day he told us the holiday was ready. We went into the shed. Inside, it was a train! We sat down and the train started. We saw pictures through the windows. “Look. We are going through Beijing.” And a few minutes later we were passing the Great Wall of China. Dad brought lunch in: Beijing Duck!
We spent the next three days in the train and they were the most exiting days of my life. We saw Paris, London, Rome, Venice and many other places. We ate French pancakes, British fish and chips and Italian pizza. We heard the music of different countries. Thank you, Dad, for a wonderful holiday!

【答案】37.To Antarctica. 38.He felt/was very excited. 39.He wanted to be a storyteller to make other people feel what he felt when he saw whales. 40.Yes, storytelling is a good way to help protect the natural world.
