In April, a heartwarming story touched thousands of people online. Mr. Liu, a long-distance truck (卡车) driver from China, created a “fairy-tale castle (城堡)” for his three-year-old daughter’s birthday. Let’s see how he transformed an ordinary truck into a place full of magic.
Mr. Liu and his wife, both in their 30s, wanted their daughter’s birthday on April 19 to be unforgettable. They spent a whole day decorating (装饰) their 4.2-meter truck. With balloons (气球) in pink and purple, colorful rope lights, and her favorite toys—like a teddy bear and a tiny princess crown (皇冠)—the truck became a dreamy world. The best part? They only spent just over 500 yuan ($70)! “We want to fill her childhood with joy,” Mrs. Zhao, the mother, said. “Love doesn’t need expensive gifts—it needs creativity.”
This birthday was very special. For the first birthday, they celebrated at home with a small cake. But last year, they missed the second birthday because their new baby needed care. “We felt sorry,” Mr. Liu said. “This year, we decided to make up for it.” When the little girl saw the truck, her eyes shone brightly. She laughed and danced around, shouting, “It’s my castle!”
Online, people loved the story, “Dad’s truck carries more than goods—it carries love,” one person wrote. As Mr. Liu said, “Every parent wants to give their child the world. For us, the world is in how we make her smile.” This is more than a story about a truck. It’s about how love turns everyday life into magic. And for the little girl, that truck will always be a symbol of her parents’ endless love.

A. Scared. B. Excited. C. Encouraged.
35. What can we learn from the story?

In the film Forrest Gump, there’s a famous saying: “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.” It’s the same with blind boxes. Blind boxes like Pop Mart have become a big hit worldwide, loved by both collectors and window-shoppers. What started as a small trend (趋势) is now popular all over the world.
Blind boxes began with lucky bags sold in Japan from the late 1860s. People loved the surprise of not knowing which toy they would get until they opened the box. This idea spread around the world and step by step changed and developed into different forms (形式). Today, blind boxes can include humans, toys, or even art. In the early 2000s, Western markets started to like blind boxes too. Toy companies used people’s love for uncertainty, curiosity and fun. Simple toys became themed collections, creating a strong market by making special blind box series (系列).
Blind boxes work on psychology (心理). The excitement of not knowing what’s inside is a big draw. People hope to find rare or special things. Collecting has also become popular again, especially with young people who enjoy building big collections. Online sharing makes this better: platforms like TikTok let people share unboxing videos, show their finds, and talk to others, making the experience more fun.
Studies say the blind box market in the world will grow by over 6% each year from 2021 to 2026. Online shopping and online stars have helped this growth. Young people are the main buyers, looking for unusual things that show their personalities.
Blind boxes are here to stay. As they become more part of everyday culture, their mix of surprise collecting, and online sharing will keep them popular for years. Some people surely get much fun from the boxes, but others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys.
Blind Boxes: The Rise of Blind Box Culture and Trends
The ___51___
Like the saying about life in Forrest Gump, the blind box is so hard to say what will turn out that it has become popular worldwide.
The History
Dating from Japan’s lucky bags in the late 1860s, blind boxes ___52___ step by step over the world.
The Reason
People love blind boxes because of psychology, specialness, collecting, and ___53___.
Market Trends
The global blind box market grows yearly, driven by online shopping, online stars and ___54___.
Conclusion
Blind boxes remain popular but raise ___55___ children’s spending.

“Meatballs again? I hate meatballs!” Henry cried loudly. “I’m not eating this!” Henry’s mum and dad looked at each other. This was the second time this week that Henry had complained (抱怨) about his dinner.
“We’re going to let you take over dinnertime. You can pick the food and cook your meals,” Mum said.
“Good. We’re going to eat good food every night!” Henry answered.
The next day, Henry sat down to write the meal plan. “We’re going to have chicken tonight, and noodles tomorrow,” Henry said.
“Are we going to have anything else besides chicken? We need to have at least one vegetable for each meal,” said Mum.
“We can have cabbage,” Henry said.
After he finished shopping, it was time to make his first meal. He believed that this would be his favourite meal. Since he had never cooked, his parents were both there to help him. “There’s a lot to do,” Henry thought, as he looked at the mess in the kitchen. He was usually playing games outside while his parents were making dinner.
It took almost two hours to cook. When dinner was finally finished, Henry was tired and hungry. But he was so excited — he made dinner!
“I don’t like cabbage,” cried Sophia, Henry’s little sister, at the table. Henry felt quite upset. He had worked so hard on dinner, but it was impossible to get everyone happy about every part of every meal!
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know this could be so hard,” Henry felt like he might cry. He began to realize how his parents felt every time at the dinner table.
“It’s OK, Henry. You worked really hard. We’ll take back dinner responsibilities. You’ll have to do it enough when you’re grown up,” Dad said.
Henry felt relaxed. He happily finished his dinner and never got angry at dinner table again.

Dear Editor,
I am Li Hua from Grade 8 I’m writing to share my thoughts on after-school classes. I firmly believe that we students should not take them.
Firstly, we are already tired out from so much schoolwork, and these classes add to more stress, and leave us no time to relax. Secondly, they might make us depend too much on others’ help, making us weak to study by ourselves.
In a word, I hope schools can better our teaching during school hours, so we don’t need to turn to such classes.
Yours,
Li Hua
例文2
Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua writing to share my positive view on after-school classes.
These classes are a great help. They offer personal teaching to us, and the teachers can focus on my weak points, like helping me master difficult math problems. Also, they provide more learning help and care. For example, in the after-school English classes, I got to read extra English stories, improving my reading skills. Moreover, the small-class environment encourages me to be more active, making learning more interesting. In short, I advise students to choose proper after-school classes based on their needs. They are truly helpful to us.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua, sharing my thoughts on after-school classes. Opinions are different among students. Some think they’re helpful, while others are against them. In my view, it’s a mixed bag. On one hand, after-school classes can offer personal help. For instance, students weak in certain subjects can get better grades after taking them. On the other hand, too many classes cause a lot of stress for us. Therefore, I advise us students to think more about our needs. If truly necessary, choose proper classes, but never overdo it. Only in this way can we make the best use of them.
Yours,
Li Hua
