_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At the age of 10, in 2002, Wu Mingfei received a gift from his mother: a
book about pretty paintings on walls in the Mogao Caves (洞穴) of
Dunhuang, Gansu Province. This gift made him love painting and dream of
seeing the caves one day.
When he was 25, Wu, from Sichuan in Southwest China, finally made the
trip to Dunhuang. He said, “The paintings on the walls were more amazing than
those in the book. That was when I knew I wanted to stay here.”

Now Wu has an art workshop in Dunhuang, where he recreates the wall
paintings on special boards. This allows visitors to have the chance to
experience a bit of the caves' magic.
“When people breathe in the caves, they make the harmful air to the
paintings. Only a few caves are open to the public because we need to keep
them safe,” Wu said.“People can't take pictures or stay inside for long.”

The paintings in Dunhuang are known for their bright colours. They use
colours from rocks that have stayed pretty for centuries. However, because of
the high cost, Wu mostly uses common paints for his art. But he also shows
art with rock colours in special shows, so people can see how the old paintings
really look.
His workshop has become a popular place for tourists and art lovers.
Through his art, Wu Mingfei has found a way to share the amazing art of
Dunhuang with the world.

Passage 3
新素材 防止“脑腐”[2025重庆沙坪坝区期末]Do you
ever feel you can't think clearly after playing on the
phones for too long? If you do, welcome to the world of
“brain rot (脑腐)”!
The phrase first appeared in the book Walden in 1854, but now it
specifically refers to what happens when someone spends too much time online.
The frequency (频率) of people using the phrase keeps growing these years.
In 2024, it has been named the Oxford Word of the Year.

So what will happen if you have brain rot? Well, sometimes it seems like
your brain is a blank for a while. For example, you start forgetting things that
happened just now. You might find yourself walking into a room and forgetting
why you're there. Looking for a thing that is just in your hand is another
common symptom (症状).
The bad sides go beyond (超过) those funny things. Brain rot can cause
the loss of critical (批判的) thinking. Your emotions may experience ups and
downs more often.

But don't be afraid! Solving the problem doesn't need any expensive
medicine. Start by cutting down your screen time. Remember, living without
some apps for a few hours won't be too hard. Try to take a break to enjoy the
real world. You can join in physical activities, read real books (not the videos
that can let you finish in about 3 minutes), and talk to real people face-to-face.
Just like a garden needs care to grow healthy plants, your brain needs good
habits to stay strong. Take care of it, so that more beautiful flowers of creativity
and happiness can bloom (盛开) inside!
【Passage 3·语篇导读】本文主要介绍“脑腐”的相关信息。
