Step 1 Leading in
1.Greet the class.
2.Show some words like “careful” and “careless” on the screen.Ask students if they know the meanings of these words and the relationship between them.
Step 2 Presentation
1.Explain the meaning and usage of the suffixes “⁃ful” and “⁃less”.The suffix “⁃ful” means “full of”,and the suffix “⁃less” means “without”.
2.Show some examples of nouns with “⁃ful” and “⁃less” added to form adjectives,such as “care→careful→careless”,“hope→hopeful→hopeless”,“use→useful→useless”.Teach the new words one by one,and explain their meanings and pronunciations.
Step 3 Practice
1.Work on A
(1)Let students work in pairs and complete the table in Part A.Walk around the classroom to offer help if necessary.
(2)Then check the answers together.
2.Work on B
(1)Present Daniel’s diary entry.Let students add the correct suffix “⁃ful” or “⁃less” to the nouns in brackets to complete the text.
(2)After that,ask some students to read out the completed text.
3.Work on C
(1)Ask students to collect more words with the suffix “⁃ful” or “⁃less” and use these words to describe an experience they had with a friend.
(2)Let them share their descriptions with the class.
