四、阅读理解 (本大题共17小题,每小题2分,共34分)
A
A tree has roots (根). People have roots too. If you get to the root of a problem, you will solve it. It’s the same thing with words. Dig deeply into a big, unfamiliar word and you will understand where it came from.
As readers, especially those reading in a second language, we need to deal with the text as if we were detectives (侦探) looking for information to unlock the unknown. Like any good detective arriving on the crime scene, the first thing to do when meeting a new and difficult word is to judge the situation, to look at everything that is known and see if it helps us to understand what it means.
As you know, prefixes (前缀) and suffixes (后缀) can be added to the beginning or end of words to change the meaning. Know them, and you will have the word building power. But root words are the key. Take time to learn a few of these, put them in your memory, and you will become a master word detective.
Let’s look at one common root word used in English. “Alter” from the Latin word means “other”. When you meet this root word, you know that the bigger word has something to do with (与……有关) “other”. Examine the word “alternate”. Can you find the Latin root in it?
·If you and your friend like to eat out, first you pay and the other pays the next time. You are alternating paying.
·If you go to the movies on alternate Saturdays, you go on one Saturday, but not the other Saturday.
·If you have no alternative, you have no other choice.
Learn as many root words as possible in the language you are studying. Then use your “rooting for words” skills. Like any new skill, practice and hard work are always paid back.
36.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The situation. B.The crime scene.
C.A new and difficult word. D.Everything that is known.

A.They each pay half. B.Jim pays every time.

A.By giving a fact. B.By having a discussion.

I’ve been interested in languages for as long as I can remember. My dad was a language genius (天才). My family traveled all over the world when I was a child, and my dad would talk to everyone we met easily. His abilities greatly impressed (使敬佩) me. I hoped that I would someday be able to speak as many languages as he could.
I wasn’t a natural language learner. When I was 11 years old, I made little progress in French at school and almost gave it up. After I entered college, I read many German writers in translation. I loved them so much that I wanted to read them in their mother language. This drove me to pick up German. After I mastered German, I found myself in love with languages. Since then, I have never stopped learning new languages. By my late twenties, I was able to speak French, Latin and Greek.
I’m often asked what my secret is. The answer is endless hours of reading and studying. Before I got married, I would spend 16 hours every day studying languages. I used to like walking fast outdoors while listening to a recording of language and repeating it out loud. Now, I can read about 40 languages and speak most of them well. Asian languages are more difficult to master. It took me almost ten years to get my Korean skills close to native level. I live in Singapore now. At home, I speak French with my sons. If my Korean wife is there, we’ll use English. When we don’t want the kids to understand our conversations, we use Korean.
I’ve studied Esperanto (世界语). I think the world will be a less interesting place if there is only one language. It is like visiting a garden where there is only one type of plant!

The Feynman Technique (费曼学习法) was developed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. It’s a study method that helps students learn by teaching others. Have you ever tried this kind of method when studying?
The Feynman Technique has been one of the most effective (有效的) study methods for many years. For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just memorizing information. What’s more, unlike traditional study methods like rereading textbooks or reviewing notes, it pushes students to be more actively involved in the learning process.
★ To begin with, choose a topic you want to learn, including sub-topics (子主题). If not, you’ll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them.
Secondly, it is the heart of the Feynman Technique that you can explain the topic simply enough to be understood by a sixth-grade student. This requires you to help the child understand by using the simplest and clearest language possible. This step helps divide indigestible topics into their most basic parts.
Thirdly, review your explanation and try to find any area where you felt that you couldn’t explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth-grader, such as your best friend.
You can improve your explanation by using the information collected from the third step. Finally, repeat the steps. The Feynman Technique works best with repetition, and that is why going through all the steps just once is usually not enough to fully understand the topic. Once you’re confident you’ve learned the topic, it’s time to give yourself a prize. Perhaps, like me, enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

Learning a new language is a complex (复杂的) task, but there are lots of benefits of language learning. Research shows that it is never too early or too late to start learning a new language—our brains are built for language learning!
Language is about communication and connection, and studying a new language brings people and cultures closer to us. At the beginning, learning a language might feel like all vocabulary and grammar, but it doesn’t take long to build up the skills to make meaningful connections in the new language.
Knowing another language can develop our understanding of languages in general. Studying a second language helps improve students’ performance in other subjects. It involves learning different kinds of skills, like creativity, higher order of thinking, problem solving and reasoning.
If a man can use two languages, he is bilingual. Being bilingual trains our brains to perform a complex task: turning one language “down” while turning the other “up”, in every interaction, for every word! Bilinguals’ brains treat languages like a seesaw (跷跷板), lifting one up higher when it is needed, and pushing lower the one not being used. This push-and-pull in bilinguals’ brains gets them practicing a specific (特定的) kind of attention and control.
Languages provide new ways of interacting with people in our communities and around the world. While students may learn a new language in school, technology makes it easier than ever before for older adults to learn, too. Online chatting tools give adults ways to communicate directly with their language practice partners and native speakers. Exploring new cultures, travel, and making new social connections with people around the world can also have a good influence on older adults.
People of any age can learn new languages, but it is usually harder for adults to have the time and energy to learn them. For both kids and adults, language learning takes time and patience, and it should also be enjoyable.
50.Why is learning another language helpful for students’ other subjects?
A.Because it makes learning vocabulary and grammar easy.
B.Because it gets students interested in many subjects.
C.Because it shows the performance of students.
D.Because it develops students’ several skills.
51.Paragraph 4 mainly talks about ________.
A.how bilinguals learn languages B.why being bilingual can benefit us
C.how we can be bilingual through practice
D.why bilinguals need some complex tasks
52.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A.learning a language is like playing on a seesaw
B.kids have more difficulties finding time to learn languages than adults
C.technology provides adults with ways to talk with native speakers
D.it is impossible to make meaningful connections in a new language

According to a survey, many people think genes (基因) and intelligence have something to do with students’ success or failure. But there aren’t any researches to support this opinion. And in fact, it is not right at all. There is one thing that can finally decide students’ success or failure. That is how they learn. A few students are clever and lucky. They find good ways for themselves to study every subject well. But others aren’t so lucky like them. They don’t find correct ways of their own and fail in the end.
To teachers, what is the best way to teach languages? Dr. Asher found a way called “Total Physical Response”. This was helpful to students. Studies in San Jose State University showed that if students moved their bodies when learning English, they were able to learn more new words and grammar in a very short time. But if they sat still and didn’t move, they could learn less. And after a year, the students who moved their bodies when learning remembered 80% or more things. But others forgot more than 80%.
Now you may know how to learn English. Keep moving when you learn. So when you listen to a story or an article, do actions as soon as you hear it. And you can imagine you are the person in the story or the article. By doing this, you can learn more English and you can remember it longer. The most useful thing is that you can use it more easily. Stop your old methods. Try this one at once!
Answer the following LAnstions according to the passage.

A
A tree has roots (根).

D.60 students were present at the sports meeting.
40.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage? (①=paragraph1 ②=paragraph 2,...)
A. B. C. D.

41.When he was a child, the writer hoped to ________.
A.travel all over the world like his father

D.he wanted to travel to Germany
43.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE about the writer?
A.He could speak German at the age of 11.
B.He could never give up studying languages.
C.He learned new languages by chatting with native speakers.
D.He practised Korean in order to communicate with his son.
44.In the last two paragraphs, the writer mainly wanted to show that _________.
A.Asian languages are easy to master B.Esperanto is a useful language

45.The question sentence in paragraph 1 aims to ________.
A.to tell a new story B.to report the result
C.to lead in the topic D.to support the idea
46.What BIG question does paragraph 2 answer?
A.When can we use the method? B.What is the method?
C.Why is the method helpful? D.Who developed the method?
47.Which of the following can be put in ★ ?
A.You must choose a proper topic and sub-topics.
B.You can explain the concept in simple terms.
C.It is best to review and refine your explanation.
D.If you want to use the method to study better, follow these steps.
48.Who can you get suggestions from according to the third step?
A.Your parents. B.Your teachers. C.A 12-year-old girl. D.An expert in learning.
49.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the Feynman Technique?
A.Positive. B.Indifferent. C.Doubtful. D.Critical.

A.how bilinguals learn languages B.why being bilingual can benefit us
C.how we can be bilingual through practice D.why bilinguals need some complex tasks
52.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A.learning a language is like playing on a seesaw
B.kids have more difficulties finding time to learn languages than adults
C.technology provides adults with ways to talk with native speakers
D.it is impossible to make meaningful connections in a new language

AI (人工智能) can help teenagers and students learn in several ways.
Personalized learning: AI can know better about students, including their advantages, weaknesses, skills, learning favorites, learning needs, and so on. Then it can create a proper learning plan for each student. This can help students focus on areas that they need to improve at their own speed.
Interactive (交互的) learning: AI has the ability to make learning more interactive and interesting. Things like interactive learning apps and educational games can make subject learning more interesting. What’s more, they can make students interested in a subject at once. There’s no doubt that this kind of active learning is more helpful than studying alone.
Automated (自动的) advice and help: AI can give automated advice and answers to questions. It can examine students’ work and offer personalized help. For example, ChatGPT can answer students’ questions quickly in a private, low-pressure (压力) way. This kind of advice and answers can help students better understand knowledge and use their knowledge.

83.Does the writer think genes and intelligence have something to do with students’ success or failure?
84.What decides the students’ success or failure?

45.The question sentence in paragraph 1 aims to ________.
A.to tell a new story B.to report the result
C.to lead in the topic D.to support the idea

47.Which of the following can be put in ★ ?
A.You must choose a proper topic and sub-topics.
B.You can explain the concept in simple terms.
C.It is best to review and refine your explanation.
D.If you want to use the method to study better, follow these steps.
48.Who can you get suggestions from according to the third step?
A.Your parents. B.Your teachers. C.A 12-year-old girl. D.An expert in learning.
49.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the Feynman Technique?
A.Positive. B.Indifferent. C.Doubtful. D.Critical.

A.how bilinguals learn languages B.why being bilingual can benefit us
C.how we can be bilingual through practice D.why bilinguals need some complex tasks

Greater resources: AI can enrich many of the students’learning resources, like electronic textbooks, online courses, and study apps. For example, a biology textbook with AI technology may provide interactive 3D models of a human body that students can study more carefully. AI can provide interactive examples, introduce important passages, and offer assessments (评价).
In a word, AI has a great ability to improve studying and learning. By using AI, students can study smarter and reach higher levels of learning and success. The future of AI in education is hopeful as technologies continue to develop.

83.Does the writer think genes and intelligence have something to do with students’ success or failure?
84.What decides the students’ success or failure?
85.How did Dr. Asher teach language?
