Aiming to reduce the waste of food,a nonprofit group in Geneva,Switzerland is making
refrigerators available so restaurant owners and cooks can make food available to the public before it
goes bad.
The nonprofit Free-Go has put refrigerators and food storage centres in Geneva so people can
get fruit, vegetables, breads and other foods at no cost.Free-Go is a smart play on the word
"frigo",which is an informal French word for refrigerator.
The programme costs about 40,000 to run each year.It receives support from private groups
and the city government.Free-Go also lets people who use the service plan when they will get their
food. The idea is to make it easier for people who live in apartment buildings to join the
programme. There is also a telephone line that restaurants can use to call for someone to pick up
unused food.
Free-Go said those who give food from private businesses, like restaurants or food sellers,
must promise to make sure the donated food is safe to eat.Swiss law says food past the
"recommended use-by"date can be eaten for up to a year afterwards.
Similar food-sharing campaigns are in place in the Swiss capital,Bern, and in the town of
Neuchatel. The idea was first imported from Germany.
Foodsharing.de is a community group in Germany that started more than 10 years ago.It said
that more than half a million people in Germany,Switzerland and Austria have made "the food-
sharing initiative an international movement".The group said it has helped save 83 million tons of
food from going to waste.
Because the food is free, and the donations can change,it is not always clear what will appear
in the refrigerators. Some people receiving food might not get what they want or need.
Severine Cuendet is a 54-year-old teacher.Just after leaving some vegetables that she grew,
she said,"We have too much"and praised the initiative "because this neighbourhood has a lot of
need.”She added,“And it happens to all of us to buy too much.”
28.Why does Free-Go provide refrigerators for free in Geneva?
A.To cut food waste more effectively.
B.To improve the supply of various food products.
C.To ensure food quality and extended shelf life.
D.To promote and expand its business philosophy.
29.What can be learned from Paragraphs 3-4?
A.Restaurants can phone for somebody to take unused food.
B.The city government expresses opposition to the programme.
C.People using the service have no right to plan when to donate their food.
D.Food past the "recommended use-by"date must be thrown away in Switzerland.
30.Which country did the food sharing movement originate from?
A.Switzerland.
B.France.
C.Swiss.
D.Germany.
31.What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A.To provide more news background.

Few industries have seen the fast-paced level of innovations like the 3D-printing world. What
began as a high-priced device capable of printing a small statue in 12 or more hours has exploded
into technology that can print the framework(of a house in a few days'time. The process is
being touted()as a sustainable solution for housing shortages, but is it?The answer is yes,
possibly no and it depends.
Perhaps the most notable step towards sustainability in the 3D field is the ability to print
houses with nearly zero waste. The technology is so precise it allows structures to be printed to
exact specifications.Even better, because the printing information is provided by software,
changes from one design to another are easily accomplished with a tweak (to the
programming.
3D-printed houses, either printed off site and transported as prefabricated()units,or
printed onsite where the structure will sit, predominantly require much less transport than
traditionally-built homes. In contrast,3D-printed homes typically require limited equipment and
transports. This is especially true in remote locations and for small structures like tiny homes.
Like any new technology,we don't yet know the long-term capabilities of 3D-printed homes. If
they don't stand the test of time as well as brick or wood houses,we could see a massive waste
issue in the future.Even though we won't have those answers for decades,it's certainly part of the
3D-printed home sustainability situation.
According to a recent survey by 3D printing experts Hubs, there's been a dramatic increase in
the number of people inquiring about both the technology and the availability. When people search
for 3D technology, printed homes are the number one most Googled search around the world. It's
not too surprising, considering the potential it has to address housing shortages in a potentially
sustainable way.
We've covered a lot of 3D-related topics here. While we don't have all the answers yet,the
advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages so,for now, responsibly made 3D-printed houses
remain on the list of sustainable construction options to watch in the near future.
32.What does the underlined word "accomplished"mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Stressed.
B.Compared.
C.Ignored.
D.Achieved.
33.What should be a challenge for 3D-printed houses?
A.Types of materials.
B.Long-term durability.
C.Convenient service.
D.Environment pollution.
34.What is the author's attitude towards 3D-printed homes?
A.Optimistic.
B.Unclear.
C.Doubtful.
D.Unconcerned.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Are People Interested in 3D-Printed Homes
B.Are 3D-Printed Homes a Sustainable Option for the Future
C.How Can We Print Houses with Nearly Zero Waste
D.What Does the Recent Survey by 3D Printing Experts Indicate
