Many people around the world are working to protect animals that are dying out. Here are three of their stories. Read on to learn how they are helping!
Fernanda Abra is protecting golden-handed tamarins in Brazil.
“These monkeys live in forests. Over the years, many roads have broken up their living areas into smaller parts. The animals have to cross the roads to find each other, knowing it’s dangerous. To help them, we have built bridges in the canopy (树冠层). This makes it possible for the animals to move around safely.”
Aristide Kamla is saving African manatees (海牛) in Cameroon.
“Lake Ossa is home to some manatees. In the past, the lake was covered with a type of weed (水草). The weed grew fast and was hard to kill. As a result, the manatees could hardly surface for air. With the locals’ help, we first cleared some of the weed by hand. Then, we introduced weevils (象鼻虫)to eat the weed. Today, less than ten percent of the lake is covered with the weed.”
Kuenzang Dorji is saving Gee’s golden langurs (金色乌叶猴) in Bhutan.
“Changes in where langurs live and the weather are making it hard for them to find food. So, they now eat farmers’ crops because they have to. Many langurs have been hurt by cars or power lines (电线), or killed by angry farmers. To solve (解决) it, we have put model tigers near crops, roads and power stations. These ‘tigers’ make loud noises to make the monkeys leave. We also plan to help farmers grow crops such as mushrooms. These crops are less tasty to the monkeys.”

One of them is the Nezha Palace in Yibin, Sichuan. “Usually, the number of visitors goes down after the Spring Festival,” says a spokesman. “This year, people are still coming.” The first half of February saw three times as many people as last year.
Xixia County (西峡县), Henan, is also enjoying the fruits of the film’s success. It has places such as the Ne Zha Family Temple. To attract more visitors, the county has made a special offer. But the most popular place to go is Chengdu, the hometown of Ne Zha 2. Visitors have poured in from around the country. They take pictures in front of the city’s many Ne Zha statues (雕塑). They also make special trips to the film’s production studio (制作工作室), Chengdu Coco Cartoon.
To some locals, the capital of Sichuan now feels like a “Nezha City.” “In the evening, big screens on tall buildings light up with pictures of Ne Zha and Ao Bing,” says a young woman. “It’s great to see people taking photos below. And I’ve taken some great photos myself. Thanks to all the designers for bringing the film characters to life.”
