In the workplace, we have to be able to deal with people who aren’t like us. No one will change for you, so you just have to respect their differences. When identifying personality types, I like to talk in terms of fruit. Nobody is just one fruit, but we all have a preference. And we tend to emphasize our top two, especially under pressure. Here are some fruit personalities and how best to deal with them. Types Introduction & Management Apple: Hard Core Apple types are direct and don’t suffer fools. They are fast, logical thinkers who love to win and hate to lose control. They’ll get a result at any cost, but see conflict as sport. Mango types love life and can’t afford to miss a minute. They love variety because they tend to be easily distracted and naturally rule breakers. Lemon types love structure and order. They are worriers who like security and predictability. They excel at spotting gaps in a plan. But too many rules can also be frustrating. Banana types enjoy peace and shy away from conflicts. They are kind to react to others’ requests. However, when they are too accommodating, they can be seen as indecisive. 1. Always stand up to them. 2. Get to the point. 3. Don’t take it personally. 4. Watch and learn from them. Mango: Juicy and Messy Apple types are direct and don’t suffer fools. They are fast, logical thinkers who love to win and hate to lose control. 根据Mango部分中“Mango types love life and can’t afford to miss a minute. They love variety because they tend to be easily distracted and naturally rule breakers.( 芒果型的人热爱生活,一分钟都不能错过。他们喜欢多样化,因为他们容易分心,天生就是规则的破坏者)”和Lemon部分中“Lemon types love structure and order. They are worriers who like security and predictability. They excel at spotting gaps in a plan. But too many rules can also be frustrating. (柠檬型喜欢结构和秩序。他们是喜欢安全感和可预测性的担忧着。他们擅长发现计划中的漏洞。但是太多的规则也会令人沮丧)”可知,芒果型和柠檬型人格的人都不喜欢被太多的规则所束缚。故选D项。 【2题详解】 推理判断题。根据Banana部分中“Banana types enjoy peace and shy away from conflicts. They are kind to react to others’ requests. However, when they are too accommodating, they can be seen as indecisive. B The latest bad but unsurprising news on education is that reading and writing scores on the SAT have once again declined. The language competence of our high schoolers fell steeply in the 1970s and has never recovered. This is very worrisome, because the best single measure of the overall quality of our primary and secondary schools is the average verbal (语言的) score of 17-year-olds. This score correlates with the ability to learn new things readily, to communicate with others and to secure a job. It also predicts future income. The most convincing analyses have shown that the chief causes are vast curricular changes, especially in the critical early grades. In the decades before the Great Verbal Decline, a content-rich elementary school experience evolved into a content-light, skills-based, test-centered approach. Cognitive psychologists agree that early childhood language learning (ages 2 to 10) is critical to later verbal competence, because of the so-called Matthew Effect. According to Matthew Effect, those who are language-poor in early childhood get relatively poorer, and fall further behind, while the verbally rich get richer. Clearly the key is to make sure that from kindergarten on, every student, from the start, understands the main idea of what is heard or read. If preschoolers and kindergartners are offered substantial and coherent lessons concerning the human and natural worlds, then the results of significantly improved verbal scores will show up five years or so later. By staying on a subject long enough to make all young children familiar with it (say, two weeks or so), the main idea becomes understood by all and word learning speeds up . This is especially important for low-income children, who come to school with smaller vocabularies and rely on school to pass on the knowledge base children from rich families take for granted. Current reform strategies focus on testing, improving teacher quality, and other changes. Attention to these structural issues has led to improvements in the best public schools. But it is not enough. 4. Why is the decrease in verbal scores on the SAT worrisome? A. Because it leads to a short supply of talents in the labor market. B. Because it reveals young people’s negative attitude towards verbal study. C. Because it shows schools’ inability to meet the national requirements. D. Because it negatively influences students in their future development. 5. What is the reason for the falling verbal competence? A. Children’s lack of language learning ability. B. Fewer courses on reading and writing in school. C. Shift of curricular focus from content to skills. D. Heavy pressure that numerous tests have resulted in. 6. Which one is a good solution to language competence decline? A. Teachers should train children to better understand the content. B. Teachers should take family background into consideration. C. Teachers should focus on one topic in language teaching. D. Teachers should spend more time on word learning. 7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Matthew Effect in Language Learning B. How to Stop the Drop in Verbal Scores C. Trying to understand the Main Idea D. Verbal Score and Future Development 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段第三句到最后一句“This is very worrisome, because the best single measure of the overall quality of our primary and secondary schools is the average verbal (语言的) score of 17-year-olds. This score correlates with the ability to learn new things readily, to communicate with others and to secure a job. It also predicts future income.(这是非常令人担忧的,因为衡量我们中小学整体质量的最佳单一指标是17岁学生的平均语言成绩。这个分数与学习新事物的能力、与他人沟通的能力以及获得工作的能力有关。它还能预测未来的收入。)”可知,SAT语言成绩的下降令人担忧是因为这会对学生未来的发展产生负面影响。故选D。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段前两句“The most convincing analyses have shown that the chief causes are vast curricular changes, especially in the critical early grades. In the decades before the Great Verbal Decline, a content-rich elementary school experience evolved into a content-light, skills-based, test-centered approach.(最令人信服的分析表明,主要原因是课程的巨大变化,特别是在关键的早期年级。在“语言大衰退”之前的几十年里,内容丰富的小学经历演变成了内容少、以技能为基础、以考试为中心的方法。)”可知,语言能力下降的原因是课程重心从内容转向技能。故选C。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段第一句“Clearly the key is to make sure that from kindergarten on, every student, from the start, understands the main idea of what is heard or read.(显然,关键是要确保从幼儿园开始,每个学生,从一开始,就理解所听到或读到的主要思想。)” 故选A。 根据第一段“The latest bad but unsurprising news on education is that reading and writing scores on the SAT have once again declined. It also predicts future income.(关于教育的最新坏消息是,SAT的阅读和写作分数再次下降,但这并不令人意外。我们高中生的语言能力在20世纪70年代急剧下降,并且从未恢复。这是非常令人担忧的,因为衡量我们中小学整体质量的最佳单一指标是17岁学生的平均语言成绩。这个分数与学习新事物的能力、与他人沟通的能力以及获得工作的能力有关。它还能预测未来的收入。)”可知,第一段提出学生的语言能力急剧下降的严峻形式和语言能力的重要性,根据第二段第一句“The most convincing analyses have shown that the chief causes are vast curricular changes, especially in the critical early grades.(最令人信服的分析表明,主要原因是课程的巨大变化,特别是在关键的早期年级。)”可知,第二段分析这一现象背后的原因,根据第三段第一句“Clearly the key is to make sure that from kindergarten on, every student, from the start, understands the main idea of what is heard or read.(显然,关键是要确保从幼儿园开始,每个学生,从一开始,就理解所听到或读到的主要思想。)”和最后一段“Current reform strategies focus on testing, improving teacher quality, and other changes. Attention to these structural issues has led to improvements in the best public schools. But it is not enough.(目前的改革策略集中在考试、提高教师素质等方面。对这些结构性问题的关注导致了最好的公立学校的改进。但这还不够。)”可知,文章最后两段提出了一些针对这一现象的改革措施,并表明这些措施远远不够,所以文章主要是讲如何提高学生的语言能力,阻止其继续下降。故“How to Stop the Drop in Verbal Scores(如何阻止语言成绩下降)”是最佳标题。故选B。 C Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed making myself and others laugh. Humor has always played an important role in my life as it was key in helping me develop my personality and outlook on life through childhood. What I did not realize, however, was why or how it made me feel better about myself. I wanted to find out just exactly how humor affects us in our lives, and whether or not it played a key role in having a longer and more enjoyable life. From my research, I found many different ways that humor can influence our emotions and physical health. These benefits are split into two different sections: short-term and long-term. One example of the short-term benefits of humor would be that laughter induces relaxation. It gets many muscles moving in your body. One reason why muscles get tense is lack of oxygen flow. Once you laugh as a response to humor, it increases the flow of oxygen to the muscles, resulting in a more relaxed and more energy-filled body. Another short-term benefit is that laughter causes pain relief. This is achieved by intense stimulation of organs in the body, which leads to increased circulation and blood flow. As for the long-term effects, they can be just as rewarding. For example, one thing laughter can do in the long run is improve the overall health of the heart. This happens because, like stated earlier, laughter increases blood flow. Since the heart is the organ that regulates all blood flow in the body, naturally the heart becomes strengthened. One last long-term benefit from humor is that it can reduce stress levels and boost the immune system. 8. What benefit of humor does the author mention in the first paragraph? A. It lets the author make more friends. B. It keeps the author physically healthy. C. It helps to shape the author’s character. D. It frees the author from any stress. 9. What does the underlined word “induces” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Skips. B. Decreases. C. Needs. D. Causes. 10. How does the author show the long-term benefits of humor? A. By telling stories. B. By giving examples. C. By listing numbers. D. By making comparisons. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. Health Benefits of Humor B. Stories About Laughter C. Success Brought by Humor D. Humor in Daily Life 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“Humor has always played an important role in my life as it was key in helping me develop my personality and outlook on life through childhood.(幽默在我的生活中一直扮演着重要的角色,因为它是帮助我在童年时期发展个性和人生观的关键。)” 根据第三段中“One example of the short-term benefits of humor would be that laughter induces relaxation. It gets many muscles moving in your body. One reason why muscles get tense is lack of oxygen flow. Once you laugh as a response to humor, it increases the flow of oxygen to the muscles, resulting in a more relaxed and more energy-filled body.(幽默的短期好处的一个例子是笑能……放松。它使你身体的许多肌肉运动起来。肌肉紧张的一个原因是缺氧。一旦你因为幽默而笑,它会增加肌肉的氧气流量,从而使身体更放松,更充满能量。)”可知,笑可以解决肌肉缺氧的问题,让身体放松。由此推知,induces意为“引起”,与cause意思一致。故选D项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“For example, one thing laughter can do in the long run is improve the overall health of the heart.(例如,从长远来看,笑能做的一件事是改善心脏的整体健康。)” 故选A项。 D Working with ARIA Research, a startup developing vision for the blind, Phoebe Peng is using technologically advanced human echolocation (回声定位) that enables blind users to perceive their surroundings in precise detail. The process uses event cameras which, unlike normal cameras that take complete images of a scene, track changes in an image over time, making them ideal for the observation of small objects like table tennis balls. The images are then processed into sound using a specialised algorithm (算法). This is then communicated back to the player via a lot of loudspeakers, ultimately with the aim of allowing players to track the ball and movements using sounds. According to Peng, table tennis makes a perfect test case for the kind of technology being developed by ARIA Research. “Table tennis has been played for decades as a more accessible version of tennis. The sport is beginner-friendly while maintaining a rich level of competitive play. However, like many sports, it remains difficult for people who suffer vision loss or have low vision,” said Ms Peng, who will soon complete a Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering. “The small size of the ball and table, along with the movement of the ball in 3D space, are things that make table tennis difficult to play for those with low vision and complete blindness,” said Peng, who is completing the work for her degree. “Making this sport more accessible while also exploring the potential of event cameras were my two biggest motivators,” she said. In one study, using two perfectly positioned cameras, Ms Peng was able to identify and track a ball in three dimensions in real time. She then fed that data into an algorithm controlling the loudspeakers standing along the sides of the table, which created a sound field matching the position of the ball. While the results are promising, more experimentation will be needed before the system will be ready for actual play. “There are limitations on how accurately people can perceive sound localisation. What type of sound should be used? Should the sound be continuous? This is what we’ll be tackling in the next stage of development,” said Ms Peng. 12. How are event cameras different from normal ones? A. They can have sounds located. B. They are linked with loudspeakers. C. They constantly follow image changes. D. They take complete images of a scene. 13. What makes table tennis a perfect test case for the research? A. Its unique feature. B. Its fierce competition. C. Its technical complexity. D. Its beginner-friendliness. 14. What is the last paragraph mainly about concerning the study? A. Its inspiring results. B. Its promising future. C. Its practical applications. D. Its technological challenge. 15. What could be the best title for the text? A. Technology Opens up Blind Table Tennis B. Blind People Work Wonders in Table Tennis C. Event Camera Reshapes Future for the Disabled D. Algorithm Helps Translate Imagination to Sound 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段“The process uses event cameras which, unlike normal cameras that take complete images of a scene, track changes in an image over time, making them ideal for the observation of small objects like table tennis balls.(该过程使用事件相机,与拍摄场景完整图像的普通相机不同,事件相机可以跟踪图像随时间的变化,使其非常适合观察像乒乓球这样的小物体。)” 根据第三段“Table tennis has been played for decades as a more accessible version of tennis. The sport is beginner-friendly while maintaining a rich level of competitive play.(几十年来,乒乓球一直是一种更容易上手的网球运动。这项运动对初学者是友好的,同时保持了丰富的竞技水平。)”可知,让乒乓球成为这项研究的完美测试案例的是它的独特之处:对初学者友好,同时保持竞技水平。故选A。 根据最后一段“There are limitations on how accurately people can perceive sound localisation. What type of sound should be used? Should the sound be continuous? This is what we’ll be tackling in the next stage of development(人们感知声音定位的准确度是有限的。应该使用什么类型的声音?这个音应该是连续的吗?这是我们下一个发展阶段要解决的问题)”可知,最后一段关于研究的主要内容是它的技术挑战。故选D。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Working with ARIA Research, a startup developing vision for the blind, Phoebe Peng is using technologically advanced human echolocation (回声定位) that enables blind users to perceive their surroundings in precise detail.(Phoebe Peng与ARIA Research(一家为盲人开发视力的初创公司)合作,使用技术先进的人类回声定位技术,使盲人用户能够准确地感知周围环境的细节。)”和第四段““The small size of the ball and table, along with the movement of the ball in 3D space, are things that make table tennis difficult to play for those with low vision and complete blindness,” said Peng, who is completing the work for her degree. “Making this sport more accessible while also exploring the potential of event cameras were my two biggest motivators,” she said.(Peng,正在完成她的学位研究,说:“乒乓球和乒乓球台的尺寸太小,再加上球在3D空间中的运动,使得那些视力低下和完全失明的人很难打乒乓球。” 故选A。 Maximalism as a design aesthetic (审美), is rooted in cultural shifts throughout history. In the mid-20th century, minimalism dominated social aesthetic, which laid great emphasis on the idea of less was more. In the late 1960s, postmodernism challenged the ideas of minimalism and embraced a more playful approach to design. ___16___ During the 1980s, maximalism reached its peak and continued to evolve in the following decades. Today, maximalism has become a noticeable design style characterized by celebrating individuality, embracing the unexpected, and creating st unning and expressive spaces. ___17___ They hold that maximalism can make homes blossom into spaces that radiate with warmth and joy, and reflect the personalities and tastes of everyone in the house. ___18___Even hallways can be turned into gallery-like spaces with unique art collections, vibrant wall coverings that enhance visual impact. Mirrors, if strategically placed, can add to the pleasant feel of a space that could otherwise be a boring passage. The living room unfolds with patterns and decor items, creating a dynamic and cozy atmosphere which is all about individuality and comfort. ___19___ A combination of decoration items such as sculptures, vases, and books are also on display. Breaking free from regular kitchen aesthetics, maximalism transforms kitchens into exciting and inspiring environments. Using unexpected kitchen lighting options can add some home atmosphere.___20___ As an interior (室内的) stylist, I encourage you to get the best from your home and the possessions you already have by displaying what you love most. This will spark joy everywhere you look, and this concept is at the heart of maximalism. A. Delicate table lamps may work well. B. Your home should be a celebration of all you are. C. Many interior designers are advocates of maximalism. D. Maximalism breathes life into often-overlooked corners. E. You can find a variety of ways to bring it into your home, too. F Maximalism emerged as a reaction against the idea of simplicity. G. There is a mix of different patterns through throw pillows and curtains. F 17. C 18. D 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Maximalism, as a design aesthetic (审美), is rooted in cultural shifts throughout history. In the mid-20th century, minimalism dominated social aesthetic, which laid great emphasis on the idea of less was more. In the late 1960s, postmodernism challenged the ideas of minimalism and embraced a more playful approach to design.(极繁主义作为一种设计美学,植根于历史上的文化变迁。 【17题详解】 根据上文“Today, maximalism has become a noticeable design style characterized by celebrating individuality, embracing the unexpected, and creating stunning and expressive spaces.(如今,极繁主义已经成为一种引人注目的设计风格,其特点是崇尚个性,拥抱意外,创造令人惊叹和富有表现力的空间)”以及后文“They hold that maximalism can make homes blossom into spaces that radiate with warmth and joy, and reflect the personalities and tastes of everyone in the house.(他们认为,极繁主义可以使家庭绽放出温暖和喜悦的空间,并反映出房子里每个人的个性和品味)”可知,后文提到了一些人对极繁主义的看法,可知本句是在说明后文They指代的对象,故C选项“许多室内设计师是极繁主义的倡导者”符合语境,故选C。 【18题详解】 根据本段内容“Even hallways can be turned into gallery-like spaces with unique art collections, vibrant wall coverings that enhance visual impact. Mirrors, if strategically placed, can add to the pleasant feel of a space that could otherwise be a boring passage.(甚至走廊也可以变成画廊般的空间,拥有独特的艺术收藏品,充满活力的墙壁覆盖物可以增强视觉冲击力。镜子,如果有策略地放置,可以增加一个空间的愉悦感,否则可能是一个无聊的通道)”可知,后文提到了可能会让人感到无聊的走廊和墙壁,讲的是房间的角落布置,故D选项“极繁主义为经常被忽视的角落注入生命”符合语境,故选D。 【19题详解】 根据上文“The living room unfolds with patterns and decor items, creating a dynamic and cozy atmosphere which is all about individuality and comfort.(客厅以图案和装饰项目展开,创造了一个充满活力和舒适的氛围,这一切都是关于个性和舒适)”以及后文“A combination of decoration items such as sculptures, vases, and books are also on display.(雕塑、花瓶、书籍等装饰品也在展览中)”可知,本段主要说明了客厅以图案和装饰项目展开,G选项中patterns对应上文patterns。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Breaking free from regular kitchen aesthetics, maximalism transforms kitchens into exciting and inspiring environments. Using unexpected kitchen lighting options can add some home atmosphere.(打破常规的厨房美学,极繁主义将厨房变成令人兴奋和鼓舞人心的环境。使用意想不到的厨房照明可以增加一些家庭氛围)”可知,上文提到了厨房照明,本句为本段最后一句,A选项中table lamps对应上文lighting。故A选项“精致的台灯可能效果很好”符合语境,故选A。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题1分,满分 15 分) Jeffrey is a millionaire. He was very interested in adventure. This time he made an adventure on a sparsely (稀少地) populated land. In the cold winter, he tried a new place and forgot to bring his cell phone, the only time on the trip. He trekked (艰苦跋涉) more than half an mile with two dogs to a harvested wheat field. With his dark staring eyes at the horizon in expectation of another rabbit, Mr. Fairfax stepped on the thin snow on a canal. Suddenly, it collapsed (坍塌) and dropped him four feet to the bottom. Realizing that he was in trouble and was going to hurt himself, Mr. Fairfax was suddenly picking up a lot of speed. His left leg hit first, and he lay on his side to reach for his shotgun, unloaded it and used it as a crutch (拐杖). He spent an hour and a half climbing the canal but slipped and slid back down when he was partly up. This time, one of his feet got fixed between two rocks. Mr. Fairfax told himself that if he didn’t get himself out of that canal, he wasn’t going to have a very good night. Mr. Fairfax walked his foot free and climbed more slowly and cautiously out of the canal. He immediately realized the difficulty of the task before him. The accident occurred about 2 p.m., and it was nearing 5 p.m. with the road far away as the sun was setting. Mr. Fairfax focused on crawling to safety. Even with his gun supporting him, hopping was impractical. Instead, he sat down and pushed himself backward less than 40 inches at a time with his good leg. He was determined and sure that he must hold on. He was in exhaustion and had more frequent breaks. Temperatures dropped overnight, and his gloves and boots got wet. His hands and feet soon were completely numb. Para. 1 Mr. Fairfax’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para. 2 However, gleams (微光) of daylight remained — Mr. Fairfax saw the sixth car. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Para. 1 Mr. Fairfax’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him. The two dogs surrounded his body to warm him while barking wildly. Mr. Fairfax finally struggled to the fence near the road with the help of the dogs. Despite his exhaustion and painful leg, he still tried to wave down a driver for fear that he might lose consciousness at any time. He waved wildly and shouted loudly, but in vain. When the fifth car passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair. Para. 2 However, gleams (微光) of daylight remained — Mr. Fairfax saw the sixth car. Mustering up all his strength and courage, he waved wildly again. Fortunately, this time the car stopped and the driver rolled down the window to ask him what was wrong. After realizing Mr. Fairfax’s situation, the driver jumped off, assisting him onto the back seat with his two lovely dogs. With tears welling up in his eyes, Mr. Fairfax expressed his gratitude in a week voice. Finally, he got rescued and cured. From then on, whenever he was confronted with a terrible situation, he would encourage himself with the accident. 鼓励:motivate/encourage 2.涌出:well up/blow over 3.表达:show/express 情绪类 1.可爱的:lovely/loveable 2. Verbal Score and Future Development C Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed making myself and others laugh. From my research I found many different ways that humor can influence our emotions and physical health. Humor in Daily Life D Working with ARIA Research, a startup developing vision for the blind, Phoebe Peng is using technologically advanced human echolocation (回声定位) that enables blind users to perceive their surroundings in precise detail. With his dark staring eyes at the horizon in expectation of another rabbit Mr. The accident occurred about 2 p.m. and it was nearing 5 p.m. with the road far away as the sun was setting. Mr. Fairfax focused on crawling to safety. Even with his gun supporting him, hopping was impractical. Instead, he sat down and pushed himself backward less than 40 inches at a time with his good leg. He was determined and sure that he must hold on. He was in exhaustion and had more frequent breaks. Temperatures dropped overnight, and his gloves and boots got wet. His hands and feet soon were completely numb. Para. 1 Mr. Fairfax’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para. 2 However, gleams (微光) of daylight remained — Mr. Fairfax saw the sixth car. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
