My violin is like a soul mate that whispers words of wisdom to me. Together, we've gone through both tears and happiness.
About 12 years ago, I knew it following an order from my mom. Many hours of boredom were spent practicing it. And to make things worse, the disappointment in my teacher's eyes as I played the wrong notes was like an invisible hammer, striking on my heart. One day, I finally decided: I hate it!
By chance, things changed when I was seven. I was at home lying on the sofa, wondering how those famous violinists dealt with this terrible dilemma. I searched online for the E-minor Concerto, a well-known violin work by German composer Felix Mendelssohn, and listened to it.
A beautiful and mysterious sound came from the violin as the bow (琴弓) moved across it. It was like the music slid over the flowers, rose up, and started to fill the air. The violin's voice woke up the sun, made the trees green, and freshened the air. As the music changed, the sky turned back to gray. A gloomy shade covered the grass as all the sunshine disappeared. I could hear children crying and men shouting. It was like an invisible claw had grabbed my heart tightly, making it unable to beat.
That glorious day set off my passion and, interest in violin—I grabbed mine and never let it go. Before the memories faded, I stared at my instrument. Without hesitating, I picked it up, rosined the bow, and began to play. Peace filled my heart.
My violin has been by my side for 12 years. When I feel happy, an energetic tune makes it even better; when I'm deep in sorrow, a peaceful tune washes it away, when I'm walking on air, feeling especially pleased with my achievements, solemn tunes calm me down. Gradually, it has become a part of my life.
My violin, shall I compare you to a summer's day?

D. The scenery outside the room was quite attractive.
6. Why did the author pick up the violin again?

根据第二段中“And to make things worse, the disappointment in my teacher's eyes as I played the wrong notes was like an invisible hammer, striking on my heart. One day, I finally decided: I hate it!(更糟糕的是,当我弹错音符时,老师眼中的失望就像一把无形的锤子,敲打着我的心。有一天,我终于决定:我讨厌它!)”可知,当作者演奏错误时老师失望的眼神加剧了作者对小提琴的不喜欢。故选C。

The other day, my parents stopped by and dropped off a birthday gift to me. After the visit I watched my parents walking down my front steps toward their car. My father took my mother by the arm and slowly and carefully helped her step down the small steps, which hit me really hard. It has been happening slowly over the years. Because my own life has been going through so much change (my kids have grown up and moved out over these years), I had somehow simply failed to notice just how much my own parents were aging.
As a child we see our dads as these big strong men who work hard, protect us, and just take care of things. We see our moms as our caretakers who are always there to make sure our needs are attended to so we always know we are loved. All through my growing up they looked the same to me. That is how they have always seemed to me. Now I see a little gray haired mom who is fragile and breakable, and I see a gray haired father who walks a little slower than he once did.
The thought made me break into tears. And I realize I need to spend more time with my parents. I need to make sure I get their advice now on the things I should know for the future so I don't waste my chance to get it while they are still both here with me. I need to ask them to tell me more stories about their own life and all the lessons they have learned. Let's all make an effort to make more time for them and make sure they feel appreciated while we still have them with us.
8. Why did the author refer to her parents' visit?
A. Her parents bought a special gift for her.
B. She was longing for her parents' coming.
C. She overlooked her parents getting old.
D. Her parents seldom came to her house.
9. What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A. The author has raised her kids on her own.
B. The author hardly pays a visit to her parents.
C. The author has a poor relationship with her kids.
D. The author felt guilty while watching her parents.
10. What does the author want to do in the future?
A. To get more attention from her parents.
B. To devote more time to her parents.
C. To listen to her parents' advice carefully.
D. To get a caretaker to attend her parents.
11. Which is the proper title for the passage?
A. Aging Is Really a Fact We Have to Accept
B. Learn More from Parents While They Are Clear
C. Love Your Parents Before They Get Too Old
D. Accompany Your Parents Before It's Too Late
C 9. D 10. B 11. D

根据第一段的“My father took my mother by the arm and slowly and carefully helped her step down the small steps, which hit me really hard.”(我父亲抓着母亲的胳膊慢慢小心地帮她走下小台阶,这真的让我很触动。)以及最后一句的“I had somehow simply failed to notice just how much my own parents were aging.”(不知道怎么的,我就是没有注意到我自己的父母已经老了很多)可以看出她忽视了父母在一天天变老,故选择C项。
根据第一段中“My father took my mother by the arm and slowly and carefully helped her step down the small steps, which hit me really hard. It has been happening slowly over the years.”(我父亲抓着母亲胳膊慢慢小心地帮他走下小台阶,这真的让我很触动。
根据最后一段的“Let's all make an effort to make more time for them and make sure they feel appreciated while we still have them with us.”(让我们尽可能多的找时间陪伴他们,确保他们还陪伴在我们身边时,感到被重视。)
通读全文,结合最后一段“The thought made me break into tears. And I realize I need to spend more time with my parents.”(这个想法让我哭了出来,我意识到我需要花更多的时间来陪伴我的父母。)

The grocery store might not be your favorite place to visit when you're at home, but is it ever fun when you're in another country? Honestly speaking, they're one of those strange little destinations that I like to sniff out everywhere I go, much as other travelers head toward clothing stores, libraries, coffee shops or galleries.
The greatest beauty of the grocery store –– whether it's a supermarket or a tiny shop –– is that it gives you a glimpse into what local people buy to cook their own meals. This offers clues into their lifestyles and preferences, and into the agricultural and cooking practices of the country. I stare at the strange fruits and vegetables, the seafood, the cheese, the spices, the bread, and oh, the chocolate...always the chocolate!
Being the environmental nerd(呆子)I am, I like paying attention to packaging, which can reflect people's attitudes towards environmental protection. Italy, for example, has a habit of requiring customers to bag their fruits and vegetables in plastic for weighing, while Sri Lanka leaves everything loose in bins. In Brazil, everything is prepackaged in a layer of plastic.
People in grocery stores tend to be friendlier. They smile, say hello, and sometimes ask questions, which can lead to great conversations. I had a further discussion with a teenaged cashier in Sri Lanka, over which bag of crunchy(松脆的)mix to buy. He insisted that the one labeled “spicy” would be too hot for me, but I told him I was willing to risk it. He laughed and we ended up talking about my favorite Sri Lankan foods for ten minutes.
It's interesting then to come home and look at one's own local grocery store through new eyes. What would a visitor think? What stands out, and what do the food displays say about us as a culture? You might be surprised by what you realize.
12. According to the author, what is the key benefit of visiting foreign grocery stores?
A. Learning to cook foreign dishes. B. Making friends with local people.
C. Buying cheaper food and souvenirs. D. Knowing local people and the country.
13. What does the author show by mentioning some countries in paragraph 3?
A. People's special lifestyles. B. People's shopping habits.
C. People's environmental awareness. D. People's packaging methods.
14 What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A. Sri Lankans know a lot about food.
B. Grocery stores are good social places.
C. Grocery stores vary in different countries.
D. Sri Lankans like to give strangers suggestions.
15. Which of the following shows the structure of text? (P: paragraph)
A. B.
C. D.
D 13. C 14. B 15. C

根据第三段第一句“Being an environmental person I am, I like paying attention to packaging, which can reflect their attitude towards environmental protection. (我是一个环保人士,我喜欢关注包装,这可以反映他们对环保的态度)”可知,本段是讲不同国家对环保的态度,所以作者提及这几个国家是为了展示他们的环保意识。故选C。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段第一句和第二句“People in grocery stores tend to be friendlier. They smile, say hello, and sometimes ask questions, which can lead to great conversations. (杂货店里的人往往更友好。他们会微笑,打招呼,有时还会问问题,这些都会带来很棒的对话)”可知,在杂货店可以和许多人交流,而根据第三句“I had a further discussion with a teenaged cashier in Sri Lanka. (我和斯里兰卡的一个十几岁的收银员进行了进一步的讨论)”可知,第四段讲述“我”在杂货店里和收银员发生的愉快讨论。从这个例子我们可以知道杂货店往往是一个好的社交场所。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段第二句“Honestly speaking, they're one of those strange little destinations that I like to sniff out (寻找) everywhere I go, much as other travelers head toward clothing stores, libraries, cafes or galleries. (说实话,它们是那些我所到之处都喜欢去的奇怪的小目的地之一,就像其他游客去服装店、图书馆、咖啡馆或画廊一样)”可知,作者去国外时最喜欢逛当地的杂货店,第二段到第四段都在讲去杂货店的好处。最后一段的第一句“It's interesting then to come home and look at one's own local grocery store through new eyes.(然后回到家用新的眼光看看自己的杂货店会是很有趣的)”以及下文的问题可知作者最后总结了旅行时逛杂货店的益处。

故填what。
故填off。
由would rather可知,此处表示对过去的虚拟,时态用过去完成时had(not)done,故填hadn't gone。
在固定句型“It was the first (second, third…) time that +从句”的结构中,从句时态用过去完成时。故填had been。

I’m sorry to hear that you are feeling ill these days. In your letter you asked me how to stay healthy and keep attentive in class. Here is my advice.
First, have three meals a day and never neglect your breakfast. Keep a balanced diet. Second, taking morning exercise every day is a nice choice. As you know, daily exercise helps build a strong body. You can do some sports to refresh yourself if weather permits. Finally, don’t stay up to make sure you have a good sleep every night.
I think it would be beneficial if you could follow my suggestions. Hope you’ll feel well soon.
Best wishes.

My Best Teaching Experience
Tyler was only in my senior class for a semester. He had been suspended (使停学) many times in previous years because of his anger issues. When he entered my class, I thought the worst.
Tyler sat in the back row. Every time I talked to the class, I would ask students questions, calling them by name. Unfortunately, every time I called on Tyler, he would respond with a joke. If he got an answer wrong, he would become angry.
About a month into the year, I was still trying to connect with Tyler. I can usually get students involved in class discussions or at least have them sit quietly and attentively (专心地). By contrast, Tyler was often loud and sometimes rude.
He had been in so much trouble over the years. He expected his teachers to know about his past; about how many times he had been sent to the office or suspended from school. I had found that these sorts of referrals (移交) were not very effective and that students would return from the office behaving worse than before.
One day, Tyler was talking over me while I was teaching. I stopped my lesson and said, “Tyler, why don’t you join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” With that, he got up from his chair, pushed it over and yelled something. I can’t remember what he said other than that he included some impolite words. I sent Tyler straight to the office, and he received a week’s suspension.
To this point, this was one of my worst teaching experiences. Tyler’s anger was almost too much for me. The week Tyler was suspended from school was a wonderful time, and we got a lot accomplished as a class. However, the suspension week would soon come to an end, and I was fearful of his return.
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him.

A spark of surprise flashed across his face.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him. At last he came, walking with his hands in his pockets. That image immediately brought back memories of the boy throwing a tantrum in class the other day. Yet I managed to restrain my anger this time. These past few days, I had been building a wall between us with blame and punishment, so I thought to myself that maybe I should try another way. “I want to apologize for the quarrel that we had in the middle of class, and I’m really sorry if it hurt your feelings,” I said, finally breaking the ice.
A spark of surprise flashed across his face. The naughty boy froze there, staring at me with wide eyes. It was clear that he had never heard an apology from a teacher before. “It is I who should say sorry,” he murmured, his face burning with shame, “I should have learned to control myself.” With a smile, I stepped forward and patted him on his shoulder, signaling to him to go back to his seat. In the days that followed, Tyler didn’t misbehave in class anymore and took an active part in class discussions. I had never expected “understanding” could make such a huge difference — it turned one of my worst teaching experiences into perhaps the best one.

Ethnic festivals in GuiZhou are concentrated in April and May, such as the Sisters’ Meal Festival. If you are interested in Miao and Dong ethnic cultures, this is a good time to visit.

9 What can we infer from the first paragraph?
D
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him.
