This book explains how scientists and artists work together to recreate dinosaurs. As scientific discoveries have been made, the models have changed. The group of Americans horn hetween the years 1981 and 1997 have becn called a lot of names: Millennials, Generation Y, the Laziest Generation, etc. But according to a new survey from the investmcnt company T. Rowe Price, a more appropriate term might actually be “the Money-Conscious Generation”.
Currently, l9-to 35year-olds set are not only better about tracking their spending and sticking to a budget than Baby Boomers (Americans born between 1946 and 1964), but more of them have increased their savings in the past vears, too. A new study from T. Rowe Price analyzed the spending and saving habits of more than 3000 working adults over the age of 18. Specifically, 75% of Millennials told T. Rowe that they track their expenses carefully, compared to 64% of Baby Boomers. And 40% of Millennials have increased their 401 (k) contributlons(401 养老金计划) in the past twelve months, nearlv double the 21% of Boomers who did the same.
“When Millennials have the means to do the right thing, it appears that they often do,” Anne Coveney, a senior manager at T. Rowe Price, said in a statement accompanying the survey results. “They are managing their spending and are going against the stereotype (刻板印象) that this generation wastes money and is full of shortsighted thinking, ” she added.
Other findings from the T. Rowe study further show the idea of the financially-conscious Millennial: 88% of Generation Y people asked said they are pretty good at living within their means, and 67% told T. Rowe they save “by any means necessary”. Seventy-four percent said they are more comfortable saving money rather than spending it.
That Millennials prioritize saving over spending is not entirely surprising: many were financially hurt by the Great Recession (大萧条), especially after graduating into an environment with a 16% -plus unemployment rate and little wage growth. Over the past several years, Millennials have drawn comparisons to the post-Depression(萧条) generation in the way that they stay out of the stock market and hold on to cash.
“They think like people from the Depression period largely because they experienced market problems and job securitv issues very early in their careers, or watched their parents experience them, and it has had a significant impact on their attitudes and behaviors.”Emily Pachuta of UBS said in an interview last year.

B. They stay out of the stock market.
C. They prioritize saving ovcr spending.

We have a problem, and the strange thing is that we not only know about it, but also celebrate it. Just today, someone boasted (自夸) to me that she was so busy she’s averaged four hours of sleep a night for the last two weeks. She wasn’t complaining; she was proud of the fact. She is not alone.
Why are rational (理性) people so irrational in their behavior? The answer is that we’re in the midst of a bubble (泡沫). I call it “The More Bubble”.
The nature of bubbles is that something is overvalued until—eventually—the bubble bursts, and we’re left wondering why we were so irrational in the first place. The thing we’re overvaluing now is the opinion of doing it all, having it all, achieving it all.
This bubble is being enabled by a combination of three powerful trends: smart phones, social media, and extreme consumerism The result is not just information overload, but opinion overload. We are more aware than at any time in history of what everyone else is doing and, therefore, what we should be doing. In the process, we have been sold a bill of goods: that success means being supermen and superwomen who can get it all done. Of course, we boasted about being busy—it’s code for being successful and important.
And our answer to the problem of more is always more. We need more technology to help us create more technologies. We need to move our workload to free up our own time to do yet even more.
Luckily, there is a solution to asking for more: asking for less, but better. A growing number of people are making this change. I call these people Essentialists.
These people are designing their lives around what is essential and removing everything else. These people arrange to have actual weekends (during which they are not working). They create technology-free zones in their homes. They trade time on Facebook with calling those few friends who really matter to them. Instead of running to different meetings, they put space on their plans to get important work done.
So we have two choices: We can be among the last people caught up in “The More Bubble,” or we can join the growing community of Essentialists and get more of what matters in our one precious life.
12. When the woman said she only slept for four hours a night for two weeks, she ________.
A. was unsatisfied with her lifestyle
B. was asking for suggestions
C. took pride in doing so
D. knew few people were like her
13. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The cause and result of “The More Bubble”.
B. The advantages of “The More Bubble”.
C. The solutions to “The More Bubble”.
D. The value of “The More Bubble”.
14. According to the article, Essentialists are those who ________.
A. give up certain things for what matters in life
B. prefer to change frequently
C. are tired of information and opinions
D. are eager to become successful and important
15. What’s the author’s attitude towards “The More Bubble”?
A. Supportive. B. Undecided.
C. Disapproval. D. Doubt.

Should We Get Rid of Cash?
When it comes to money many people still think of the paper bill in their wallets. For years, cash (or paper currency) has played an important role in our daily activity. ____16____
The idea first came up when he read a statistic report about currency distribution released by the US Treasury, the department in control of the central bank. ____17____ On the other hand, border states like Florida and California, which were heavily involved in drug trafficking (贩毒), see an ever increasing need for large bills.
Rogoff argues that most big bills in circulation were being used for one of two purposes. Profit-motivated crimes such as illegal gambling, drugs, prostitution, loan sharking, the fencing of stolen merchandise take up a major part. Tax evasion (逃税) by people who arrange to receive cash income and don’t report it also contribute to its popularity. ____18____
However the total amount of cash issued by government is still booming. The government don’t know where it goes. ____19____ But they are happy to know that it’s popular, because they make money by making money about $70 billion a year. It is unlikely that they can enjoy such benefit though. If taken into account the human cost, the enforcement cost, the tax loss, these visible profits will be easily offset.
____20____ Here’s a typical opinion: “The day we go cashless, the government will be able to track your every move. This is nothing more than a call for dictatorship. ”
A. He strongly urged the government to do something about it.
B. They don’t know who’s using it.
C. There are other people who see cash very differently.
D. The problem is that it also aids crime.
E. But Harvard professor Ken Rogoff is now appealing to the government to put it into extinction.
F. He noticed that some regions, like the Midwest, had almost no demand for the $ 100 bills.
G. But its popularity is slowly decreasing as we have more ways to pay, according to Harvard professor Ken Rogoff.

We have a problem, and the strange thing is that we not only know about it, but also celebrate it. Just today, someone boasted (自夸) to me that she was so busy she’s averaged four hours of sleep a night for the last two weeks. She wasn’t complaining; she was proud of the fact. She is not alone.
Why are rational (理性的) people so irrational in their behavior?
D. Doubt.

“This bubble is being enabled by a combination of three powerful trends…The result is not just information overload, but opinion overload.”(这个泡沫是由三个强大的趋势结合起来的:…… 故选A。
倒数第二段中“These people are designing their lives around what is essential and removing everything else… calling those few friends who really matter to them. …they put space on their plans to get important work done.” 故选A。
文中作者使用了一些词如“boasted (自夸) to me”、“Why are rational (理性的) people so irrational in their behavior”中的irrational(不合理的,荒谬的; 无理性的)、“overvalued(过高估计的)”等可看出作者是disapproval(不赞同,反对),故选C。

Should We Get Rid of Cash?

The idea first came up when he read a statistic report about currency distribution released by the US Treasury, the department in control of the central bank. ____17____ On the other hand, border states like Florida and California, which were heavily involved in drug trafficking (贩毒), see an ever increasing need for large bills.
Rogoff argues that most big bills in circulation were being used for one of two purposes.

上文“When it comes to money, many people still think of the paper bill in their wallets. For years, cash (or paper currency) has played an important role in our daily activity.(说到钱,很多人还是会想到钱包里的纸币。多年来,现金(或纸币)在我们的日常活动中扮演着重要的角色)”说明现金在人们日常生活中的重要性。结合下文“The idea first came up when he read a statistic report about currency distribution released by the US Treasury, the department in control of the central bank.(这个想法最初是在他阅读了美国财政部(中央银行的管理部门)发布的一份关于货币分布的统计报告后产生的)”可知,空处和前文为转折关系,指出有人提出关于现金的新观点,E项“但哈佛教授肯•罗格夫现在呼吁政府让现金消失”符合语境,下文中“The idea”指代选项中“the government to put it into extinction”,下文“he”指代“Harvard professor Ken Rogoff”。故选E。
上文“The idea first came up when he read a statistic report about currency distribution released by the US Treasury, the department in control of the central bank.(这个想法最初是在他阅读了美国财政部(中央银行的管理部门)发布的一份关于货币分布的统计报告后产生的)”指出阅读一份关于货币分布的统计报告让哈佛教授肯•罗格夫产生这个新想法;F项“他注意到,像中西部这样的一些地区,几乎不需要100美元的钞票”空处承接上文,说明他阅读报告后的发现,且与后文“On the other hand, border states like Florida and California, which were heavily involved in drug trafficking (贩毒), see an ever increasing need for large bills.(另一方面,佛罗里达州和加利福尼亚州等边境州严重参与毒品贩运,对大额账单的需求日益增加)”形成对比。故选F。
上文“Rogoff argues that most big bills in circulation were being used for one of two purposes. Profit-motivated crimes such as illegal gambling, drugs, prostitution, loan sharking, the fencing of stolen merchandise take up a major part. Tax evasion (逃税) by people who arrange to receive cash income and don’t report it also contribute to its popularity.(罗格夫认为,流通中的大多数大额钞票都被用于以下两种目的之一。 故选A。
上文“The government don’t know where it goes.(政府不知道这些钱去了哪里)”说明政府不知道现金的流向。 承接上文,进一步说明政府不知道的情况,且与后文“But they are happy to know that it’s popular, because they make money by making money about $70 billion a year.(但他们很高兴知道它很受欢迎,因为他们每年赚700亿美元左右)”形成转折关系,符合语境。故选B。
下文“Here’s a typical opinion: “The day we go cashless, the government will be able to track your every move. This is nothing more than a call for dictatorship.

故在of后加the。
“not only...but (also)...” 故将not后加only。
故将which改成where。
故去掉more。

Dear Ms Wang,
I’m Li Hua, a Senior 3 student who is about to graduate from school. I’m writing to ask for your advice on choosing a career, as I’m now facing a difficult dilemma. I’ve always been passionate about environmental science because I believe protecting the planet is crucial for future generations, and I dream of working in this field to make a difference.
However, my parents hold a different view: they think I should pursue a career in medicine, which they consider more stable and rewarding. Though I understand their concerns, I’m worried that choosing a path I don’t love will make me regret it later.
I’m really confused about how to balance my own aspirations with my parents’ expectations. Could you please give me some practical suggestions? I would be grateful for your help.
Yours,
Li Hua
