I can’t wait to share a piece of good news with you. A Chinese folk culture theme park has just been built in my hometown. I think this is a great chance for you to learn more about Chinese culture, so I’d like to invite you to visit the park with me.
We can meet at the bus station at 8 next Saturday morning and then set off for there. During the visit, we will learn about Chinese folk culture and experience various forms of folk art, through which we can see Chinese history changes and great society development, especially Chinese countryside. When we visit it, we had better behave well and follow the related rules and order. Don’t smoke, make noises or throw rubbish anywhere. I am sure you can harvest and benefit from this visit.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours

Paragraph 1:
Mr. Fairfax’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him. The two dogs surrounded his body to warm him while barking wildly. Mr. Fairfax finally struggled to the fence near the road with the help of the dogs. Despite his exhaustion and painful leg, he still tried to wave down a driver for fear that he might lose consciousness at any time. He waved wildly and shouted loudly, but in vain. When the fifth car passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair.
Paragraph 2:
However, gleams of daylight remained—Mr. Fairfax saw the sixth car. Mustering up all his strength and courage, he waved wildly again. Fortunately, this time the car stopped and the driver rolled down the window to ask him what was wrong. After realizing Mr. Fairfax’s situation, the driver jumped off, supporting him onto the back seat with his two lovely dogs. With tears welling up in his eyes, Mr. Fairfax expressed his gratitude in a weak voice. Finally, he got rescued and cured. From then on, whenever he w

Which fruit personality are you?
In the workplace, we have to be able to deal with people who aren’t like us. No one will change for you, so you just have to respect their differences. When identifying personality types, I like to talk in terms of fruit. Nobody is just one fruit, but we all have a preference. And we tend to emphasize our top two, especially under pressure. Here are some fruit personalities and how best to deal with them.

The latest bad but unsurprising news on education is that reading and writing scores on the SAT have once again declined. The language competence of our high schoolers fell steeply in the 1970s and has never recovered. This is very worrisome, because the best single measure of the overall quality of our primary and secondary schools is the average verbal (语言的) score of 17-year-olds. This score correlates with the ability to learn new things readily, to communicate with others and to secure a job. It also predicts future income.
The most convincing analyses have shown that the chief causes are vast curricular changes, especially in the critical early grades. In the decades before the Great Verbal Decline, a content-rich elementary school experience evolved into a content-light, skills-based, test-centered approach. Cognitive psychologists agree that early childhood language learning (ages 2 to 10) is critical to later verbal competence, because of the so-called Matthew Effect. According to Matthew Effect, those who are language-poor in early childhood get relatively poorer, and fall further behind, while the verbally rich get richer.
Clearly the key is to make sure that from kindergarten on, every student, from the start, understands the main idea of what is heard or read. If preschoolers and kindergartners are offered substantial and coherent lessons concerning the human and natural worlds, then the results of significantly improved verbal scores will show up five years or so later. By staying on a subject long enough to make all young children familiar with it (say, two weeks or so), the main idea becomes understood by all and word learning speeds up . This is especially important for low-income children, who come to school with smaller vocabularies and rely on school to pass on the knowledge base children from rich families take for granted.
Current reform strategies focus on testing, improving teacher quality, and other changes. Attention to these structural issues has led to improvements in the best public schools. But it is not enough.
24.Why is the decrease in verbal scores on the SAT worrisome?
A.Because it leads to a short supply of talents in the labor market.
B.Because it reveals young people’s negative attitude towards verbal study.
C.Because it shows schools’ inability to meet the national requirements.
D.Because it negatively influences students in their future development.
25.What is the reason for the falling verbal competence?
A.Children’s lack of language learning ability.
B.Fewer courses on reading and writing in school.
C.Shift of curricular focus from content to skills.
D.Heavy pressure that numerous tests have resulted in.
26.Which one is a good solution to language competence decline?
A.Teachers should train children to better understand the content.
B.Teachers should take family background into consideration.
C.Teachers should focus on one topic in language teaching.
D.Teachers should spend more time on word learning.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Matthew Effect in Language Learning
B.How to Stop the Drop in Verbal Scores
C.Trying to understand the Main Idea
D.Verbal Score and Future Development

Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed making myself and others laugh. Humor has always played an important role in my life as it was key to help me develop my personality and outlook on life through childhood.
What I did not realize, however, was why or how it made me feel better about myself. I wanted to find out just exactly how humor affects us in our lives, and whether or not it played a key role in having a longer and more enjoyable life.
From my research, I found many different ways that humor can influence our emotions and physical health. These benefits are split into two different sections: short-term and long-term.
One example of the short-term benefits of humor would be that laughter induces relaxation. It gets many muscles moving in your body. One reason why muscles get tense is lack of oxygen flow. Once you laugh as a response to humor, it increases the flow of oxygen to the muscles, resulting in a more relaxed and more energy-filled body. Another short-term benefit is that laughter causes pain relief. This is achieved by intense stimulation of organs in the body, which leads to increased circulation and blood flow.
As for the long-term effects, they can be just as rewarding. For example, one thing laughter can do in the long run is improve the overall health of the heart. This happens because, like stated earlier, laughter increases blood flow. Since the heart is the organ that regulates all blood flow in the body, naturally the heart becomes strengthened. One last long-term benefit from humor is that it can reduce stress levels and boost the immune system.
28.What benefit of humor does the author mention in the first paragraph?
A.It lets the author make more friends.
B.It keeps the author physically healthy.
C.It helps to shape the author’s character.
D.It frees the author from any stress.
29.What does the underlined word “induces” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Skips. B.Decreases.
C.Needs. D.Causes.
30.How does the author show the long-term benefits of humor?
A.By telling stories. B.By giving examples.
C.By listing numbers. D.By making comparisons.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Health Benefits of Humor
B.Stories About Laughter
C.Success Brought by Humor
D.Humor in Daily Life

Working with ARIA Research, a startup developing vision for the blind, Phoebe Peng is using technologically advanced human echolocation (回声定位) that enables blind users to perceive their surroundings in precise detail.
The process uses event cameras which, unlike normal cameras that take complete images of a scene, track changes in an image over time, making them ideal for the observation of small objects like table tennis balls. The images are then processed into sound using a specialised algorithm (算法). This is then communicated back to the player via a lot of loudspeakers, ultimately with the aim of allowing players to track the ball and movements using sounds.
According to Peng, table tennis makes a perfect test case for the kind of technology being developed by ARIA Research. “Table tennis has been played for decades as a more accessible version of tennis. The sport is beginner-friendly while maintaining a rich level of competitive play. However, like many sports, it remains difficult for people who suffer vision loss or have low vision,” said Ms Peng, who will soon complete a Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering.
“The small size of the ball and table, along with the movement of the ball in 3D space, are things that make table tennis difficult to play for those with low vision and complete blindness,” said Peng, who is completing the work for her degree. “Making this sport more accessible while also exploring the potential of event cameras were my two biggest motivators,” she said.
In one study, using two perfectly positioned cameras, Ms Peng was able to identify and track a ball in three dimensions in real time. She then fed that data into an algorithm controlling the loudspeakers standing along the sides of the table, which created a sound field matching the position of the ball.
While the results are promising, more experimentation will be needed before the system will be ready for actual play. “There are limitations on how accurately people can perceive sound localisation. What type of sound should be used? Should the sound be continuous? This is what we’ll be tackling in the next stage of development,” said Ms Peng.
32.How are event cameras different from normal ones?
A.They can have sounds located.
B.They are linked with loudspeakers.
C.They constantly follow image changes.
D.They take complete images of a scene.
33.What makes table tennis a perfect test case for the research?
A.Its unique feature. B.Its fierce competition.
C.Its technical complexity. D.Its beginner-friendliness.
34.What is the last paragraph mainly about concerning the study?
A.Its inspiring results. B.Its promising future.
C.Its practical applications. D.Its technological challenge.
35.What could be the best title for the text?
A.Technology Opens up Blind Table Tennis
B.Blind People Work Wonders in Table Tennis
C.Event Camera Reshapes Future for the Disabled
D.Algorithm Helps Translate Imagination to Sound

Maximalism, as a design aesthetic(审美), is rooted in cultural shifts throughout history. In the mid-20th century, minimalism dominated social aesthetic, which laid great emphasis on the idea of less was more. In the late 1960s, postmodernism challenged the ideas of minimalism and embraced a more playful approach to design. 36 During the 1980s, maximalism reached its peak and continued to evolve in the following decades.
Today, maximalism has become a noticeable design style characterized by celebrating individuality, embracing the unexpected, and creating stunning and expressive spaces. 37 They hold that maximalism can make homes blossom into spaces that radiate with warmth and joy, and reflect the personalities and tastes of everyone in the house.
38 Even hallways can be turned into gallery-like spaces with unique art collections, vibrant wall coverings that enhance visual impact. Mirrors, if strategically placed, can add to the pleasant feel of a space that could otherwise be a boring passage.
The living room unfolds with patterns and decor items, creating a dynamic and cozy atmosphere which is all about individuality and comfort. 39 A combination of decoration items such as sculptures, vases, and books are also on display.
Breaking free from regular kitchen aesthetics, maximalism transforms kitchens into exciting and inspiring environments. Using unexpected kitchen lighting options can add some home atmosphere. 40 .
As an interior(室内的) stylist, I encourage you to get the best from your home and the possessions you already have by displaying what you love most. This will spark joy everywhere you look, and this concept is at the heart of maximalism.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
65-year-old Mr. Fairfax had retired from teaching. He was very interested in adventures. This time he made an adventure on sparsely(稀少地) populated land. In the cold winter, he tried a new place and forgot to bring his cellphone, the only time on the trip. He trekked(长途跋涉) more than half a mile with two dogs to a harvested wheat field.
With his dark staring eyes at the horizon in expectation of another rabbit, Mr. Fairfax stepped on the thin snow on a canal. Suddenly, it collapsed and dropped him four feet to the bottom.
Realizing that he was in trouble and that he was going to hurt himself, Mr. Fairfax suddenly picked up a lot of speed. His left leg was injured first, and he lay on his side to reach for his shotgun, unloaded the bullets and used it as a crutch(拐杖). He spent an hour and a half climbing the canal but slipped and slid back down when he was partly up. This time, one of his feet got fixed between two rocks. Mr. Fairfax told himself that if he didn’t get himself out of that canal, he wasn’t going to have a very good night.
Mr. Fairfax climbed more slowly and cautiously out of the canal. He immediately realized the difficulty of the task before him. The accident occurred at about 2 pm and it was nearing 5 pm with the road far away as the sun was setting.
Mr. Fairfax focused on crawling to safety. Even with his gun supporting him, hopping(单脚跳行) was impractical. Instead, he sat down and pushed himself backward for less than 40 inches at a time with his good leg. He was determined and sure that he must hold on. He was in exhaustion and had more frequent breaks. Temperatures dropped overnight, and his gloves and boots got wet. His hands and feet soon were completely numb.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
Mr. Fairfax’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him.
