I have worked at a nursing home for years. Here I have seen roommates look out for each other many times, but this particular time things were a bit out of the ordinary. The two residents in this story both had mid-stage dementia(痴呆症). They did not always remember that they could not get up and walk by themselves. Sometimes one of them would start to get up without assistance and we had to remind them to get help if they wanted to go somewhere.
One particular night, my coworker Lucy and I were making our rounds(巡视), peeking into each room to make sure that the residents were safe and still in their beds. As we made our way from room to room, we saw that the residents were sleeping peacefully.
But when we got to the room of these two ladies, Dottie and Sarah, we did not find them both safe in their beds. Dottie was in bed, but Sarah’s bed was empty. At first we did not know where Sarah was, and we felt a bit panicked. We looked in the bathroom and did not find her. It was not likely that she had gotten very far unassisted.
Sarah’s bed was nearer to the door and Dottie’s bed was on the far side of the room. I walked past Sarah’s bed, towards Dottie. I wanted to ask her if she had seen Sarah get out of her bed. But just before I opened my mouth, I saw a pile of blankets all over the floor, between the two beds.
Then I found a surprise in the middle of all those blankets! There was Sarah, on the floor in between the two beds, all caught up in a pile full of blankets. Her feet were in one of the blankets and it was clear that she had tripped in the blankets somehow. Then I called Lucy over and let her know that I found Sarah on the floor.

段落构思
第一段提示句:We checked her to see whether she was injured.
① We gently examined her body and found she wasn't hurt.
② We helped her get up and told her it was okay.
③ Then we assisted her back to her bed.
Para1: We checked her to see whether she was injured. We gently lifted her hands and legs, checking for any signs of bruising or swelling. Luckily, she seemed unharmed, just a little frightened. Lucy and I carefully helped her up, and she leaned on us as we walked her back to her bed. Sarah kept muttering, "I didn't mean to... the blanket..." We comforted her, saying it was all right.
第二段提示句:After being back to bed, Sarah gave me the blanket and said, “So, could you help me cover her?”
① I looked at Dottie and understood Sarah's concern.
② I took the blanket and covered Dottie gently.
③ Sarah smiled when she saw Dottie was covered properly.
Para2: After being back to bed, Sarah gave me the blanket and said, “So, could you help me cover her?” I turned to look at Dottie, who was sleeping soundly, her blanket a little askew. I took the blanket from Sarah and carefully covered Dottie, tucking it around her shoulders. Sarah watched quietly, and when I finished, she gave me a weak smile. At that moment, I felt a warm current in my heart, realizing that even with dementia, their care for each other was still there.
