One possible version:
As the couple drew closer, the old man’s eyes widened. “Buddy! Oh, thank goodness!” he
exclaimed, tears welling up in his eyes. The woman rushed forward, hugging the puppy tightly.
They explained that Buddy had been missing for three days, and their lives had been in chaos ever
since. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the couple handed Leo a heartfelt thank-you note and a small
reward. Leo’s face flushed with pride as he politely declined the money, feeling a newfound sense
of courage and warmth inside him.
Arriving home, Leo showed his father the note. It read: “Thank you for your kindness. Visit
anytime—Buddy misses his hero.” His father’s strict expression softened as he read the words of
praise. “I’m proud of you, son,” he said, patting Leo on the back. Leo’s eyes lit up, a rare moment
of approval from his usually strict father. From that day on, his father seemed to understand Leo’s
need for kindness and compassion better. And whenever it rained, Leo would remember that
fateful afternoon, not just as the day he saved a puppy, but as the day his relationship with his
father began to change for the better.

Text 2
W: There are many types of Italian food. Which one do you like best?
M: My favorite is spaghetti. How about you? Do you enjoy it too?
W: Actually, I don’t care for spaghetti, but I really love pizza, while my sister likes Caprese Salad.
Text 3
M:Do you know if there’s a convenience store around here?
W: I don’t think there’s one around here. The closest one is on 3rd street, but that’s probably
closed now.
W: I really need to get some things before I leave.
Text 4
W: How long will you be staying?
M:4 days. I need to go back on Friday because my Saturday meeting at 8:45 requires early
preparation.
W: My brother and I are getting together for dinner. Do you want to come with us?
M: Yeah, that would be nice.
Text 5
W: I wanted to let you know about a book club I joined a couple months ago.I know you do a lot
of reading so I thought you might want to come with me next month.
M: Oh, that sounds like fun. When does the group meet?
W: Usually the last Saturday of the month at 9:30 in the evening. Is that too late for you?
Text 6
M: When would you like an appointment?
7
W:Is today possible?
W: Yes. Today is fine. What time would you like?
M: As soon as possible. My stomach really hurts.
W:Please wait a moment. I’ll see if the doctor is available.
M:OK.
W:Sorry, he’s with a patient right now. It’s probably going to be another 30 minutes. Would you
mind waiting a little longer?
M:No problem.
Text 7

W: Welcome, Mr. Smith! You booked a twin room for two nights. Correct?
M: Yes. What’s the total cost?
W: It’s $320, including breakfast. We also require a $50 deposit.
M: How can I pay? Do you accept cash or checks?
W: Yes! We take cash, checks, and credit cards.
M: I’ll pay by credit card.
W: Perfect. Here’s your receipt. Your room is 905. Enjoy your stay!
Text 8
W: Hi Peter, can I talk to you for a moment? I just heard the cookie factory downtown is going out
of business.
M: I’m not sure that’s true. I haven’t heard anything about it.
W: Sara said they have already started to get people fired.
M: Doesn’t your father work there?
W: Yes, I’m really worried he might get fired. He just started to work there about three months
ago. What do you think I should do?
M: I’d talk to your father.
W: Yeah, but if there was something wrong I don’t think he’d tell me.He doesn’t like to upset me,
but I really would like to know what’s going on.
M: So what are you going to do?
Text 9
M: Maria, welcome! Your new song “Shining Days” is very popular. What’s it about?
W: Thank you! It’s actually very personal. It’s about all those precious high school memories we
often take for granted. You know, studying late at the library, laughing uncontrollably with friends
over silly jokes, and that exciting feeling of chasing big dreams together. I wanted to capture that
golden time before we all grew up and went our separate ways.
M: That’s beautiful! Did you write the lyrics all by yourself?
W: Yes, every single word! I always carry this with me because inspiration can strike anywhere.
M: Many young singers look up to you. What’s your most practical advice for them?
W: Oh, that’s easy —record yourself every week! I still keep my very first performance video
from when I was 12. My hands were shaking so badly! But comparing that to now shows how
much progress you can make with consistent practice.
M: Wonderful advice! Before we go, any final encouragement for our audience?
W: Absolutely! Remember, your voice matters. So keep singing, whether it’s on a big stage or just
happily in the shower! The most important thing is to enjoy every moment.

Text 10
Xiaoshu, or “Minor Heat”, is the 11th solar term in the Chinese lunar calendar, usually falling
around July 7th. It marks the beginning of the hottest period of the year. During Xiaoshu,
temperatures rise significantly, and frequent thunderstorms occur, bringing much-needed rain to
crops. Farmers are busy with field management, ensuring healthy growth for rice and other
summer plants.
Traditionally, people eat cooling foods like lotus root to beat the heat. In some regions,
sun-drying clothes and books is a custom to prevent mold. Though the weather is uncomfortable,
Xiaoshu symbolizes nature’s vitality— green trees, singing insects, and blooming lotuses create a
lively summer scene.
This solar term reflects the harmony between humans and nature, reminding us to adapt to
seasonal changes wisely.
