Isn't that amazing? ②Recently, an ordinary yet "magical" pair of glasses—the AR Smart Glasses—has hit the market, which goes far beyond regular translation tools by offering hands-free, screen-free, real-time interactive translation. ③The AR Smart Glasses are lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look just like regular glasses, but the "magic" hidden within them can't be ignored(忽视). ④The coolest feature of the AR Smart Glasses is their special translator. When people talk with someone, they can just point the glasses’ camera at the person they’re talking to, and the translation appears on the screen. When people visit a new city wearing AR Smart Glasses, they can simply look at any text, and a translation quickly appears in their view. If they get lost and need directions, the glasses can connect with GPS apps and show them translated directions right in front of their eyes. Even for language learners, it would be wonderful to practice a new language by seeing the words they hear being translated simultaneously. Learning a language can become quicker, easier, and more certain. ⑤Since translation tools like the AR Smart Glasses help people understand words easily, some people start to question whether it's still necessary to learn English, or, any other foreign languages. In fact, knowing a new language is more than just that. When you speak a language fluently, you understand the way people talk, the jokes they make, and the special meanings behind their words. This helps you connect with people better and make real friends. Also, being able to speak more than one language makes you smarter. It helps you think in new ways and solve problems more easily. In a word, learning a language isn’t just about understanding words. More importantly, it's about real connections with native speakers and a different point of view to see the world. ⑥So, even though AR Smart Glasses and other cool tools can help with translations, the real joy and benefits of knowing a language come from speaking it fluently and understanding its culture. 1. What does the underlined word “simultaneously” mean? A. 快速地 B. 同步地 C. 准确地 D. 间断地 2. What can't the AR Smart Glasses do according to the passage? A. Translate when people are talking. B. Translate the text people see. C. Provide translated directions when people get lost. D. Teach people to speak a foreign language fluently. 3. What’s the structure of the passage? A. ①/②/③④/⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④/⑤⑥ C. ①②③/④/⑤/⑥ D. ①/②③④/⑤/⑥ 4. What is the main idea of the passage? A. To introduce the features and functions of AR Smart Glasses. B. They did not understand me but they understood that I was in difficulty and made signs for me to move towards them. They moved closer and when I was underneath the island they sent a chair down to me on a chain and pulled me up. The people on the island were friendly and accepted me but they were incredibly strange. They wore the strangest clothes and they all had their own personal man servant who carried a large balloon on the end of a stick. The servant's job was to tap (轻拍) his master on his mouth or ear when he needed to speak or listen to something. This was because these masters passed most of their time in intense thought(沉思). They thought about the strangest subjects for hours and hours a day. And as a result they had no sense of practical things in life, such as speaking or listening, or looking where they were going. I later learnt that this island was called Laputa. Some people took me to speak to the king. When we arrived at his palace, the king was lost in thought and didn't notice me. I waited for more than an hour until, finally, one of his servant tapped him on the mouth and he spoke. I didn't understand their language and could not answer the king. One of the servants tried to tap me on the mouth with his balloon to make me speak. I protested(抗议,反对) very quickly. “I know exactly when to speak and listen,” I told them. They understood the sense of what I said. But they thought I was a complete idiot because I did not pass my time in thought, too. Then after dinner, a servant came to teach me their language and tell me about life on Laputa. ——Adapted from Gulliver’s Travels 1. Which place did Gulliver come to in the story? 2. The autumn sun made everything look warm and golden. Bobbie was placing small white stones on the ground to spell “HELLO” for the passing train drivers to see — something she often did for fun. “Look! There’s smoke coming from that old red building!” Phyllis suddenly shouted. Peter, always the bravest, moved closer carefully and pushed the door open. Inside, they saw something that made their hearts beat fast — a man was sitting on the dirty floor, his left wrist (手腕) locked with a metal chain to a big iron pipe! His face was dirty with black marks like coal dust, and his shirt showed a bleeding cut on his arm. “Water... please...” the man said weakly. Though he looked poor and tired, Bobbie noticed he spoke like a well-educated man. Quickly, she gave him their water bottle while Phyllis used her hair ribbon to tie around his wounded arm. “My name... is Jim,” the man said. “They stole my important papers... I need to catch the 11:15 train to London...” Just then, the loud whistle of a coming train made Peter rush to close the door so nobody outside would hear them. When Mother arrived with the village policeman later that evening, the building was empty. The broken chain lay on the floor like a dead snake, and the only signs left were footprints. But Bobbie noticed something shiny in the dirt, a gold button with a special design. That night, Bobbie heard the familiar whistle of the 11:15 train passing by. The shopkeeper put Charlie’s c 5 on the counter. “Take it easy,” he said. “You will feel sick if you eat it like that without chewing(咀嚼).” H 6 , Charlie didn’t listen to him. In less than half a minute, the w 7 chocolate had disappeared down his throat. He reached out to take the change but stopped. “I think,” he said quietly, “I think…I’ll have just one m 8 of those chocolate bars, please.” “Why not?” the fat shopkeeper said, r 9 behind him again, taking another chocolate from the shelf and putting it on the counter. Charlie picked it up and tore off the wrapper. S 10 , from under the wrapper, there came a piece of gold. “It’s a Golden Ticket!” the shopkeeper shouted, jumping about a foot in the air. “You’ve got a Golden Ticket! You’ve found the last Golden Ticket! Hey, would you believe it!” Keys: handed;couldn’t;something;with;change; However;whole;more;reaching;Suddenly 8A U3 To be a good learner 序号 中文 音标 单词 1 n.学习者 /ˈlɜːnə(r)/ learner 2 vt.为…提供食物;喂养 /fiːd/ feed 3 vi.钓鱼,捕鱼 /fɪʃ/ fish 4 n.一生,有生之年 /ˈlaɪftaɪm/ lifetime 5 n.旅行,旅程 /ˈdʒɜːni/ journey 6 adj.单个的;单身的 /ˈsɪŋɡ(ə)l/ single 7 prep.逆,反对 /əˈɡenst/ against 8 落后 fall behind 9 adj.有成效的;成功的 /səkˈsesf(ə)l/ successful 10 n.冲劲;本能需求 /draɪv/ drive 11 vt.指导;给某人领路(或导游) /ɡaɪd/ guide 12 adj.终身的 /ˈlaɪflɒŋ/ lifelong 13 n.发明家 /ɪnˈventə(r)/ inventor 14 vt.创建;建立 /faʊnd/ found 15 n.天资,才能;有才能的人 /ˈtælənt/ talent 16 n.世纪,百年 /ˈsentʃəri/ century 17 使…突出; 使…与众不同 set……apart 18 n.印刷行业 /prɪnt/ print 19 pron.他自己 /hɪmˈself/ himself 20 n.书商 /ˈbʊkselə(r)/ bookseller 21 为了 in return to 22 vi.归还 /rɪˈtɜːn/ return 23 adj.好奇的 /ˈkjʊəriəs/ curious 24 n.暴风雨 /stɔːm/ storm 25 n.调查发现 /ˈfaɪndɪŋ/ finding 26 vt.预测 /prɪˈdɪkt/ predict 27 adj.数不尽的 /ˈkaʊntləs/ countless 28 n.发明 /ɪnˈvenʃ(ə)n/ invention 29 不足为奇 come as no surprise 30 vt.发明 /ɪnˈvent/ invent 31 免费 for free 32 n. 可能的 /ˈpɒsəb(ə)l/ possible 48 尽可能… as…as possible 49 n.句子 /ˈsentəns/ sentence 50 而不是 rather than 51 n.发音 /prəˌnʌnsiˈeɪʃ(ə)n/ pronunciation 52 n.语法 /ˈɡrmə(r)/ grammar 53 adv.缓慢地,慢速地 /ˈsləʊli/ slowly 54 n.文本,文章 /tekst/ text 55 n.演讲;说话的能力 /spiːtʃ/ speech 56 adv.出声地,大声地 /əˈlaʊd/ aloud 57 vt.发音 /prəˈnaʊns/ pronounce 58 adv.正确地 /kəˈrektli/ correctly 59 n.拼写 /ˈspelɪŋ/ spelling 60 令某人惊讶的是 to one’s surprise 61 vt.重复 /rɪˈpiːt/ repeat 62 n.游客,观光者 /ˈtʊərɪst/ tourist 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
