Simon: Hi, Miss Smith! Thanks for agreeing to do this interview. People are increasingly turning to the Internet instead of print media for news. It’s been estimated that around 90% of people get at least some of their news online. Why do you think that is?
Miss Smith: One major reason is that people have much easier access to news thanks to the rise of online news media. Online news is updated constantly, whenever anything newsworthy happens. So readers of online news can get the latest updates whenever and wherever they want. To learn about a specific topic from print newspapers or TV broadcasts, they would have to carefully check every page or wait until a certain time of day, and by then the stories may have already developed further. With news sites or apps, they can simply type in their search words and click “Search”.
Simon: That’s true. What other advantages does online news media have over print media?
20
Listening
Miss Smith: I think these days, people want not only to read news, but also to interact with others and talk about the issues involved, and online news media makes that easy. One study found that 38% of online news readers regularly comment on articles. What’s more, if they find an interesting article, they can quickly let their friends know by sending them a link to the story or sharing it on social media.
Simon: I see. Does that mean print news media will disappear completely?
Miss Smith: I don’t think so. Print news media is still viewed by many people as more trustworthy with more in-depth analysis. A recent survey of 300 people found that 65% trust print news more than online news. Also, it is hard to change people’s reading habits. Some people just enjoy the feeling of holding a physical newspaper when reading news. So, I think online news media will develop hand in hand with print news media for a long time to come.
Simon: Thanks, Miss Smith.

Possible answer
Speaking
A: I read that most people use online media to get their news.
B: I’m not surprised. Nowadays, accessing news online is easy because of the Internet and smart devices.
A: And with the popularity of news apps and news media accounts on social media, it’s no wonder that the number of people using print news media, like newspapers, is dropping.
B: Yes. Online news media has more advantages over print news media.
24
Speaking
For example, most online news is free to read. What’s more, online news is updated instantly and can be shared with the click of a button.
A: That’s right. On the one hand, people can read the news when it’s convenient for them, which sounds great, but on the other hand, there are disadvantages too.
B: Definitely! One major problem is the truthfulness of news stories — can they really be trusted when anyone is easily able to post them online?
25
Speaking
A: Exactly! Another negative aspect is that some people are more used to traditional types of news media and it’s very hard to change their reading habits.
B: I suppose that’s why some people still prefer reading newspapers or watching the news on TV. In the future, do you think online news media will be the only news source?
A: No. I believe online news media will develop together with print and broadcast news media to satisfy their respective readers.
B: Maybe, but I predict more people will be using online news media!

Nowadays an increasing number of people turn to online news media for news. The rapid rise of the Internet and smart device era has made it easier for readers to access news reports online. It has been estimated that around 90% of people get at least some of their news online. With the availability of numerous news apps and news media accounts on social media, it is understandable that using online news media is a trend that is set to continue.
It is clear that online news media has advantages which are making it a popular choice. A lot of online news is free to read. It is also updated more quickly than print and broadcast media, and is easily accessible to fit every personal schedule. In addition, online news media has made it convenient for us to share news stories with our friends.

Writing
However, there are negative sides of online news media too. The huge amount of content on the Internet makes it difficult to tell what news is well researched, or even what is true at all. Besides, it is not easy to change people’s reading habits and some simply enjoy the feeling of holding a physical newspaper when reading news. For these reasons, there are still some people who choose to reject online news resources.
In conclusion, it is clear that online news media will become increasingly popular in the future, though print and broadcast news media will not completely die out. These types of media will develop together to satisfy different groups of readers. As a result, in the future, more people—but not all—will get most of their news online.

My views on short videos
Nowadays, many students in our class spend much time on short videos. They watch various videos during breaks even at night.
On the bright side, short videos can be entertaining and educational. Some teach us knowledge in an interesting way. However, they also have disadvantages. Spending too much time on them can affect our study and sleep.
In my opinion, we should limit the time spent on short videos and focus more on our study.

My views on short videos
Short videos have become super popular among us high school students. A large number of students scroll through them almost every day.
On the positive side, they provide us with a way to relax and learn new things quickly. We can get much information within a short time. On the negative side, they can be addictive. Some students become less interested in study and stay up late watching videos, which is bad for their health and academic performance.
