Museums have changed. We always have the Met in New York and the Louvre in Paris, but nowadays you’ll find various museums for everything and everyone. There’s the Museum of Love and the Museum of Broken Relationships, even the International Banana Museum. My criteria for museums were based on community importance, level of enjoyment and the beauty of collections. I’m not rating museums. Otherwise, I would have taken into account the three things that travelers are most interested in: the museum cafes, the gift shops and the bathrooms.
Museums of Bad Art
Boston, Massachusetts
The purpose of MOBA is to collect, exhibit and celebrate the art that will be shown in no other places.
Highlights include Lucy in the Field With Flowers, a painting found in 1993 near a trash barrel, waiting for garage collection. This painting was the first of the MOBA collection.
International Tennis Hall of Fame
Newport, Rhode Island
This museum was built on the site of the first United States National Lawn Tennis Championships in 1881 (which grew into the U. S. Open in New York).
A highlight is a Kings’ Court for “court tennis”, first played by kings dating back to 1538. It’s not so much a tennis court but an off-kilter rectangular (偏斜矩形) room with surprising slopes and angles. There are only 10 such courts in North America, as they cost about $3 million to make, but visitors to the museum can rent it and play.
National Comedy Center
Jamestown, New York
Located in Lucille Ball’s hometown, it features exhibits such as Jerry Seinfeld’s puffy shirt and Joan River’s card catalog of 65000 jokes.
“Before visitors go in, they create their ‘sense of humor profile,’” said the director Journey Gunderson. “They choose what they find funny, and the data is collected on a digital chip they wear called a LaughBand so that the comedy content is customized based on their personal taste.”
36. What is the trend of today’s museums according to Para. 1?
A. Improving the quality of restrooms. B. Stressing more online requirements.
C. Becoming increasingly diverse. D. Collecting different gifts.
37. How is the Museum of Bad Art different from the other two museums?
A. It sells paintings by famous people. B. It shows art not seen elsewhere.
C. It inspires visitors to love sport. D. It frees visitors from worries.
38. At the International Tennis Hall of Fame, visitors can ______.
A. play on a 3-million-dollar tennis court B. enjoy a tennis game with kings
C. visit the kings’ living rooms D. watch the U.S. Open live
39. Which of the following is the experience at the National Comedy Center?
A. Visitors view exhibits about Jerry Seinfeld’s cards.
B. Visitors miss comedy performances arranged in advance.
C. Visitors use a LaughBand to record the times of their laughing.
D. Visitors experience comedy content tailored to their preferences.
40. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To confirm the details of different museums. B. To introduce some unique museums.
C. To recommend the best museums. D. To rate different museums.

On my 23rd birthday, I found myself alone under the night sky, watching the annual Perseid meteor shower (流星雨) — a tradition I had maintained since childhood. But this year was different, because I was hundreds of miles away from my family, beginning my studies in medicine at the University of North Carolina. As I looked up to the brilliant light crossing the darkness, a quiet unease grew within me. Was this really the path I wanted to follow?
Growing up in a small town where few got higher education, I was struggling to pursue my education and become a doctor like my father, one of the few professional role models available. I worked hard and went on to study medicine never questioning whether it was truly my passion. Yet now, surrounded by classmates studying medicine, I began to wonder if I had limited myself too soon.
A few months later, a solar eclipse (日食) passed over my hometown. Skipping classes, I drove back to my hometown. I found a spot to witness the event. As daylight faded and the world turned into a beautiful sunset, something inside me shifted. The experience was so moving that I finally admitted: my heart belonged not to medicine, but to stars.
The decision to leave the university was terrifying. I worked many jobs in the next three years: driving taxis, waiting tables, folding clothes in stores. I became a high school science teacher and eventually returned to university to study physics to slowly rebuild my academic path. It was grueling, but for the first time, I felt truly alive in my pursuit of knowledge.
Today, as I approach my final year of study in astronomy, I reflect on how far I’ve come. That little girl who once watched meteors from her backyard would never have imagined presenting research at international conferences. Most importantly, I’ve learned that life isn’t about following a predetermined path but having the courage to chase what truly inspires you-even if it means starting over.
41. What was the author doing on her 23rd birthday?
A. Celebrating with her family. B. Observing the meteor shower.
C Questioning her decision to live alone. D. Traveling to the University of North Carolina.
42. Why did the author decide to study medicine?
A. Her teacher encouraged her. B. She showed great interest in medicine.
C. She was inspired by her father’s career. D. Medical school was the toughest experience.
43. What caused the author to change according to Para. 3?
A. Her deep passion for studying stars. B. The exciting moment of skipping classes.
C. The perfect place for viewing the night sky. D. The emotional impact of leaving the university.
44. What does the underlined word “grueling” (Para. 4) most likely mean?
A. Rather simple and dull. B. Quite enjoyable and funny.
C. Somewhat new and strange. D. Extremely tiring and difficult.
45. What could be the best title of the passage?
A. Medical Studies: The Road to Becoming a Doctor
B. Changing Paths: From Medicine to Astronomy
C. Chasing the Stars: A Journey of Self-Discovery
D. World Wonders: How to Observe the sky
C
Research shows that teenagers show significantly higher academic involvement when their courses are clearly connected to real-world applications and their personal strong desires. This phenomenon is quite obvious in project-based learning environments (基于项目的学习环境). Consider the case of Gil Leal, whose science class achieved academic progress. When traditional soil decomposition (土壤分解) lessons were replaced with fieldwork in local fruit farms, Leal not only mastered the course quickly but developed a professional devotion to environmental science.
Neurocognitive (神经认知) studies provide convincing evidence supporting this teaching approach. Advanced fMRI reveals that teenagers’ brains show increased connection between regions governing abstract reasoning and cognition when processing personally relevant material. This neural integration (神经整合) relates strongly with improved academic performance. Notably, students in purpose-driven classrooms demonstrate an average 8% improvement compared to peers in traditional settings.
The strategies for developing this connection vary in complexity. At the most basic level, there are brief reflective writing tasks-such as asking students to express how quadratic equations (二次方程) might inform their future engineering careers. More complicated tasks, like the “Future Goals Gala” developed by educator Cathleen Beachboard, employ role-playing techniques where students present their 30-year-old selves, sharing their dream careers and accomplishments. Such activities not only boost motivation but also provide educators with valuable information about students’ interests to support their growth.
The teaching method helps teenagers out. While they possess remarkable thoughts about societal issues and personal futures, they often felt it difficult to connect these concepts to immediate academic. Purpose-driven teaching method bridges this gap — put knowledge learned in class into their daily life. Those students getting benefits from this teaching method demonstrate significantly greater persistence through challenging material, even through higher education.
Traditional models that separate academic content from personal desires may discourage teens’ curiosity. Connection between present actions and ideal-self in the future not only enhances academic outcomes but cultivates the reflective habits of lifelong learning.
46. When Gil Leal connected his learning to the real world, ______.
A. his grades dropped temporarily B. his courses diminished his desire
C. he expected to stay in the classroom D. he identified his future career direction
47. What brain changes show when teenagers process personally relevant material?
A. Increased links between areas for abstract reasoning and cognition.
B. Improved responses between emotional zones and data zones.
C. Decreased activities in memory-related regions.
D. Reduced activities in mental health outcomes.
48 What does the underlined word “inform” in Para. 3 mean?
A. Influence. B. Risk. C. Imagine. D. Worry.
49. What does the author try to convey from the last two paragraphs?
A. Teenagers struggle to grasp abstract concepts in traditional lessons.
B. Teachers contribute little to guiding students’ career reflections.
C Traditional teaching methods are complex for students.
D. Purpose-driven teaching method benefits students.
50. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To praise traditional teaching methods. B. To advertise a particular school program.
C. To introduce a better teaching method. D. To explain a study in brain development.

第四部分:写作
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文, 按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
I remember the day shyness took over my life. I was 14 and having a French lesson The teacher told us to record ourselves speaking about a holiday. Perfect! I recorded myself with confidence. Then, I pressed "play" to listen back. All I heard was a little kid talking. My immediate reaction was to assume I was listening to someone else's recording. But that was my voice. I realised there was something strange about me.
My little voice has made me feel really shy. And my shyness has caused me to avoid attending events, not make important connections, and keep my ideas to myself. As a shy person, working from home, hiding behind my computer was brilliant. But the more time I spent hidden away, the more my comfort zone shrank(缩小). Everyday interactions, like ordering a coffee, became increasingly awkward and uncomfortable.
And then, one day I was at a big conference and it suddenly hit me like lightning. All speakers were confident, comfortable with being seen. There were no quieter voices. But the trouble is, if the loud voices are the only ones you hear, we quiet people feel even more alienated(疏远的)。 The world needs a mixture of personalities. Success is not just about who can shout the loudest. The world needs quieter people, too. That day I chose to stop hiding and embrace my shyness. No more feeling like I needed to change who I am in order to succeed. No more living a small life.
Then I created the Shy and Mighty Society, a space for shy people like me to shine, and in the process of helping others, I could also push myself forward, bit by bit. Now, I'm happy to tell people I feel shy. I'm not ashamed any more. And I know that I’m not alone.
51. Why did the author feel strange about herself after listening to the recording? (no more than 10 words)
52. What is the main idea of Para.2? (no more than 10 words
53. What does the underlined word in Para.3 mean? (1 word)

【56题答案】
【答案】Remembering History, Cherishing Peace
This year marks the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan. Looking back, we remember the bravery and sacrifice of the Chinese people during those dark years. From the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937 to Japan’s surrender in 1945, millions fought and died to defend our homeland.
Among the countless heroes, Yang Jingyu, an anti-Japanese hero, stands out. As a key leader of the North-east Anti-Japanese United Army, he refused a large sum of money from Japanese and tried his best to fight against enemy. Tragically, he sacrificed his life, but his courage inspired countless others to keep fighting.
Today, we live in peace, but we must never forget history. As students, we can cherish peace by promoting friendship, studying hard, and spreading awareness of the past. Let us honor the heroes by building a future where war is only a memory.
