Unit 5 Play by the rules?
例如,在学校里,“Be quiet in the library.” Stop at the red light.”
Put the rubbish in the bin.”

2. 关键词策略:在阅读时,留意与规则相关的关键词,像“must”“should”“don't”“rule”“obey”“follow”等。 比如在句子“You should finish your homework before watching TV.”

Traveling by subway can sometimes be quite “exciting”, especially (尤其) when there are too many people on the subway. Sometimes you have to stay away from hot water and coffee, because it may spill (泼洒) on you. The smells of some passengers’ (乘客) food are very strong, too.
Passengers mustn’t eat or drink on the subway in some cities. According to the new subway rules in Beijing, only babies and sick people can eat and drink on the subway. If anyone else breaks the rules, he or she must get off. In other cities like Shenzhen and Nanjing, if passengers eat or drink on the subway, they will be fined (罚款).
Some people agree with the rules. They think the smells of food can make other passengers feel unhappy or angry, because the smells of food fill (弥漫) the whole subway, especially in the hot summer. And if passengers eat or drink on the subway, the rubbish will be everywhere. Also, people often spill their drinks. These things make the subway dirty.
However, ________. They think some people eat and drink on the subway because they live so far from their workplaces. They have no time to have breakfast before they go to work. Eating on the subway saves their time.

In England, people used to stand on the right of escalators(扶梯), allowing others to walk on the left. But there is some change to this rule. People can stand on both sides of escalators at Holborn station. As one of the busiest stations of London Underground, Holborn was the first station in the country to ask travelers to stand on both the right and left sides of escalators. A test was carried out first.

People can stand on both sides of escalators at Holborn station. As one of the busiest stations of London Underground, Holborn was the first station in the country to ask travelers to stand on both the right and left sides of escalators. A test was carried out first. The test which lasted for three weeks showed that standing on both sides actually reduced(减少)congestion by 30 percent—16 , 220 people an hour are able to travel on the escalator during rush hours compared to the usual 12 ,745 when both standing and walking are allowed.
