The theme context of this unit is "Human and Self", and the content of the theme context involved is family life. This unit constructs the theme of the unit from different perspectives through multimodal discourse such as welcoming the arrival of the grandfather, resolving conflicts between father and son, jointly preparing for the grandmother's birthday party, changes in the appearance of the family over the past decade, sincere apologies between mother and daughter, mutual help between brothers, and unforgettable family events. It presents family life from the relationships of multiple characters such as grandparents, father and son, mother and daughter, and brothers, triggering students' thinking about family life and personal roles, family relationships, and blood ties. Ultimately, it forms a good character of "cherishing family ties and cherishing the family", realizing the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and helping students form correct values.

Step1:Lead-in
The teacher asks the students how they communicate with their parents.By showing students three pictures-texting message,having a quarrel or remaining silent, the teacher gets the students to think about how to communicate with their classmates properly.
Step2: Make a guess
The teacher presents three text messages on Page 36 and invites the students to guess who sent each one:Stuart’s friend, his teacher or his mother.
