Forests can be divided into different types according to their climate and location. The most common types are tropical, boreal and temperate.
Tropical rainforests are located near the equator (赤道). They are hot and wet. Although they cover only a tenth of the Earth’s surface, they are bome to about half of all species. You’ll find monkeys, frogs, jaguars and many other animals there.
Boreal forests are found in the north. These forests are cold. Many animals live there and have adapted to the cold climate by growing thick fur. The Dancing Forest is a strange and beautiful boreal forest in Russia. Its name comes from the twisted trunks of its trees. The pine trees there have leaves shaped like needles (针)。
Temperate forests are found all over the world. They are hot or cool at different times of the year. There are some temperate forests in the Jiuzhaigou Valley in Sichuan, for example. Many types of trees grow there, like maples and birches. Their leaves change color with the seasons and fall off the trees when the weather gets cool. As the weather warms up, the trees grow new leaves.

Have you heard of generative AI? It’s a type of chatbot that can create new things, like texts, pictures or videos, on its own. We recently asked our readers to discuss whether students should use AI for their schoolwork.
YES
Dylan Patel,13
AI will change the way students learn. Many fear that chatbots might lead to cheating, but there are ways to stop it. And chatbots can be used to guide students through questions instead of directly giving them the answer. Chatbots can also work with teachers to create personalized lesson plans, so that no student will fall behind in class.
AI is here to stay. Either you move with the times, or the times will move without you!
YES
Alexa Oh,11
Teaching kids about AI can prepare them for our technology-filled future. A survey shows that most Americans think it’s necessary for students to learn AI-related skills for their future jobs.
Using AI helps kids develop critical thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills. As long as it’s done well, teaching about AI in schools can change society for the better.
NO
Harper Carroll,10
While technology can be a useful tool, kids need to be able to perform basic tasks independently. That’s why kids learn how to do maths, even with calculators around. And it’s why schools teach handwriting and spelling when most adults type. Kids’ brains need to be exercised to develop, just like their bodies.
AI may benefit adults, but it’s not good for children to depend on it before mastering the basics of education.
NO
Ninis Twumasi,12
We shouldn’t introduce generative AI into schools, for a few reasons.

Forests can be divided into different types according to their climate and location. The most common types are tropical, boreal and temperate.
Tropical rainforests are located near the equator (赤道). They are hot and wet. Although they cover only a tenth of the Earth’s surface, they are bome to about half of all species. The biggest is the Amazon Rainforest in South America. It is often called the “lungs (肺) of the Earth” because the plants there produce a lot of oxygen.

With the rapid development of technology, China’s aerospace industry (航空航天工业) has achieved remarkable achievements that have gained worldwide attention. The Shenzhou-19 manned spacecraft was launched (发射) on October 30th,2024. Song Lingdong was one of the astronauts on this mission (任务)。
Born into a farmer’s family in Caoxian, Shandong Province, Song was recruited (招募) by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (中国人民解放军空军) in 2008 and was sent to learn flying.
In the first months at the Air Force’s flight school, Song had bad scores on his tests because of longtime malnutrition (营养不良). He also went through a hard time flying in the training machine because of air sickness (晕机)。
Knowing clearly about his weaknesses, Song decided to deal with them through hard work and strict training. He soon became the only student in his class who always appeared on the exercise field and often asked the trainers to double the amount of his training. Thanks to his hard work, he received the top score in his solo flight examination and was praised for his excellent performance.
Song Lingdong said that, when he was just 13, he watched a TV news report about China’s first spaceflight. ▲ In September 2020, he was chosen as one of the third group of astronaut and began his-training in Beijing. Later, Song found he was troubled by his character-being impatient. He soon realized that what a successful astronaut really needed was calmness and team spirit.
First, teachers might not know how best to use AI in their classes. Second, many schools wouldn’t be able to afford the latest technology, which creates an unfair situation for students.
Most importantly, AI lacks (缺乏) the humanity and emotion (情感) that kids get from a teacher. A chatbot just feeds students information, but teachers know how to help them take it in.
37. According to Dylan, chatbots can help students by ________.
A. stopping them from cheating B. taking place of their teachers
C. guiding them how to answer a question D. giving them correct answers directly
38. Alexa believes that learning AI skills can help students ________.
A. find high-paying jobs B. learn things more quickly
C. develop basic life skills D. grow into critical thinkers
39. Harper doesn’t want to use AI for her schoolwork because of ________.
A. the problems of technology in basic education.
B. the need to think again about today’s school education.
C. the difference between adults’ and children’s learning habits.
D. the negative role AI might play in the early development of children.
40. According to Ninis generative AI isn’t as good as a human teacher when it comes to ________.
A. appearance B. the latest information C. emotional support D. style of teaching

In 2011,10 milu deer were brought here from Beijing Milu Park. Thanks to the good environment in Qilihai, the deer population grew to 34. Qilihai Wetland offers rich food, such as reeds and aquatic plants (水生植物) for milu deer. Since 2017, the government has spent 20 billion yuan protecting the wetland. They closed fishing, farming and tourism activities near the wetland.
The area has big plans to become a top example for wetland protection in China. By selling large fish at charity auctions (慈善拍卖), they have raised money for protection. In the past ten years, amazing changes have taken place: there are now 162 kinds of wild plants in the wetland.
