(2025·甘肃省白银市第二中学高三期中)“C'mon. Everyone's doing it.” So why shouldn't you?
It's almost expected that you will experience peer pressure frequently throughout your teen years. Say you're invited to a party where you know there will be alcohol. A friend decides to cut class. Or someone offers you a cigarette. How do you respond?
2
At some point, everyone has the desire to fit into a group. If you're interested in sports, you might hang out with the jocks. If you're interested in music, you spend time with others who enjoy music. You belong to that group and feel secure when you are part of it. The group identifies who you are and what you're about. But what if people in your group start doing things that are wrong, hurtful, or even illegal? And what if these same people are your friends?
This is what we refer to as peer pressure—the pressure to conform to the behaviors, attitudes, and personal habits of the group. In many cases, there are serious risks involved. Unfortunately, most teenagers feel invulnerable, like “nothing bad can ever happen to me”. But you need to assess the risks well in advance.
3
On the other hand, you can use peer pressure to your advantage. Think of it as competitive peer pressure. For example, if you're active in sports, your teammates probably pressure you to be the best you can be. If you're on the track team, you pace yourself with the fastest runner, because you know it will make you better. If you're striving for good grades, you compare your scores to those at the top of the list. If you're in the band, and there are musicians better than you, you are pressured into striving to be the best musician you can be.
4
Now is your chance to believe in yourself and to stand alone at times, if you need to. When faced with group demands, assess the risks ahead of time, then make your own choice.

(2025·西藏拉萨中学高三第二次教学质量监测)Blue light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage—but a new analysis shows a different result.
“We found there may be no shortterm advantages with using bluelight filtering spectacle lenses to reduce visual fatigue associated with computer use, compared to nonbluelight filtering lenses,” said Laura Downie. “It is also currently unclear whether these lenses affect vision quality or sleeprelated outcomes, and no conclusions
10
could be drawn about any potential effects on retinal (视网膜的) health in the longer term. People should be aware of these findings when deciding whether to purchase these spectacles.”
The studies they reviewed ranged in size and length, with a span of as few as five to as many as 156 participants assessed over different periods, from less than one day to five weeks. The authors said more research with longer followups in more diverse populations are needed to better assess any potential effects.
11
Blue light, like that emanating from (从……发出) computer screens and smartphones, does stimulate the eyes, something that can cause sleeping problems. Vision issues including eye strain can lead to headaches, frontal headaches, pain around the eyes and pain behind the eyes, as well as dry eyes and related problems.
Earlier this year, Dr Robert Johnson said, “I would have patients coming in saying they just ordered blueblocking glasses from the Internet for their daughter and what was my opinion. This blueblocking situation has been bogus basically from the getgo ... It's one of the absurdities that come from advertising.”
12
Instead of shelling out money for special shades, however, experts advise taking screen breaks. They recommend small breaks away from screens every 20 minutes. During that break, look into the distance at an object at least 20 feet away or farther, for 20 seconds or more. Also shut your eyes for 20 seconds during the break. Johnson also goes by the “20-20-20 rule”. “For every 20 minutes, look away in excess of 20 feet for 20 seconds,” he said. “That will relax your focusing mechanism that will give your eyes a break and that will make you more comfortable.”

(2025·福建省宁德市高三期中)Adults who continuously played organized sports through their youth have fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression than those who never played or those who dropped out, a new study finds. “And those who dropped out of sports had poorer mental health than those who never played at all. But many more people drop out of youth sports than play continuously until they are 18.” said Chris Knoester, professor of sociology at The Ohio State University.
18
“If you play and stick with sports, it's a positive for your mental health, but if you play and drop out it seems to be negative—and most kids drop out,” Knoester said. The study showed that most people dropped out of sports because they weren't having fun or felt they weren't good enough. “That suggests ways youth sports can be improved to help kids,” said study lead author Laura Upenieks.
“Our findings about why kids drop out of organized sports suggest that the current environment is less than ideal for everyone, and that the barriers to participation need to be given greater attention,” Upenieks said.
19
“It is easy to see why sports can be good for those who are able to continue with it to adulthood,” Upenieks said. “The longer that youth are exposed to a positive and encouraging sporting environment, the more likely they are to develop habits that are conducive to longterm mental wellbeing, such as a commitment to regular exercise and collaborating with others as part of a team.”
The fact that so many kids quit shows that organized sports often don't provide a positive environment. But there are steps adults can take to improve that environment.
20
For one, sports should be safe for kids. The researchers said the fact that 8% said they were abused by coaches is particularly alarming. “And the finding that nearly half of kids quit because they weren't having fun and about a third dropped out because they felt they weren't good enough should also be a wakeup call,” Knoester said.
“We need to improve youth sports so that it supports positive experiences for everyone and makes it more enjoyable,” he said.

(2025·四川省名校联盟高三大联考)Gratitude, in its simplest form, is the act of feeling grateful for what you have. __1__ If you are a person that practices gratitude regularly, you may have benefited a lot from that. Studies have shown that practicing gratitude can significantly boost people's happiness and wellbeing, allowing them to live a more fulfilling life. So how can we practice gratitude? Here are ways that will set you in the right direction.
26
Keep a gratitude journal. Keep it simple and each day write 1-3 things you are grateful for in the morning and in the evening. __2__ A lot of people focus on what they don't have, or complain all day, making themselves upset. But when you focus on the positive, no matter how small, you attract more of the positive.

27
Flash a smile. A lot of people don't smile these days, and often you have to be the one that initiates (发起) it. Smiling at someone can not only make you feel good, but also make their day, too. __4__ While you're at it, give compliments (问候), too.
__5__ It's easy to focus on the negative of the past or worry about the future. If you can live in the moment and take in everything as they happen, you'll discover joys that are often overlooked. There are joys of playing with your classmates in the playground, the conversation with your friends across the table and the smell of rain. Enjoy and embrace these moments.
