I like the speed, the phone charger and the flexible feature. It's a wonderful creation.” 根据第三段关键句“Not only are the checkouts far too high, they are awkwardly designed so that you cannot approach them with a wheelchair. So, I waited for someone to assist me.” 根据最后一段内容“I still live in a disabling world with substandard accessibility. ...making the person relying on them dependent on others.” 通读全文,结合第一段关键句“Technology has undoubtedly opened up the world for me.”和最后一段关键句“Unfortunately, these things are sometimes abused and mistreated, making the person relying on them dependent on others.” 由第一段中的“The past hundred years have seen all manner of medical advances”可知,在过去的一百年里,医学取得了各种各样的进步,再由“Yet the needle has stayed mostly unchanged”可知,针头变化不大。 根据第一段中的“Dunning and Kruger found that people who scored low on the tests have the tendency to overestimate their abilities, indicating that people who lack skills tend to lack the ability to realize their shortcomings”可知,Dunning和Kruger在研究中发现,在测试中得分低的人往往高估自己的能力,这表明缺乏技能的人往往意识不到自己的缺点,故B项正确。B项中的“think too much of themselves”是原文中“lack the ability to realize their shortcomings”的同义转述。 由第三段中的“everyone has areas where they lack competence, and the Dunning Kruger effect means they may be relatively bad at selfevaluation in those areas. Even if someone is very intelligent in general, there are still things they don't know much about”可知,每个人都有自己缺乏能力的领域,邓宁克鲁格效应意味着他们在这些领域的自我评估可能相对较差。 故选A。 根据最后一段中的“Receiving negative feedback can hurt, but if you're willing to listen, it can help you grow. Even just keeping in mind that the DunningKruger effect exists can help you stay modest, accept criticism and, thus, keep learning throughout your life”可知,避免邓宁克鲁格效应的方法就是提醒自己这种效应存在并且保持谦虚,终身学习,故D项正确。 36.D 根据上文“Still, crying is a fact of life, and your tears are very useful. Even when you're not crying, they make a film over the eye's surface.” 37.E 根据本段最后一句“After we cry, the feelings that caused the tears often disappear”哭过之后,导致哭泣的原因也就消失了,因此没有什么情绪可以永远持续下去,故选E。 38.C 根据本段第二句“Psychologist Vera Diamond explains that her treatment often consists of giving people permission to cry.” 故选A。 40.G 根据本句后一句“You should also act out the whole situation again and be as noisy and angry as you like.” 41.C 根据下文“It was as though I've discovered an extra sense”和“It's as if I've reached a new dimension”可推知,此处是说作者生活在城市中,喜欢那种意想不到的感觉。 44.C 结合“When I was __45__ prescriptions(处方药)to people who cannot get out across southeast London”和第四段中的“being involved with the community”可知,作者做了很多社区工作。 45.D 根据空后的“across southeast London”和“I went to a block of 50s flats in Peckham Rye”可知,作者横穿伦敦东南部是为了给不能出去的人运送处方药。 51.A 上文提到作者被诊断出抑郁症,联系“being involved with the community and being in nature really assisted with”可知,作者发现融入社区和大自然真的有助于他的康复。 故填an。 故填are said。 故填which。 62.with/and 考查固定短语。 combine sth with/and sth为固定搭配,表示“把某物和某物相结合”。故填with/and。 故填to learn。 Hi,_John, Long time no see! Are you interested in attending a concert next Tuesday? I waited for hours to get one, but unfortunately, I'll have an important exam that day. It conflicts with the time schedule for the concert. The concert will start at 9: 30 in Xinghai Theatre, lasting for two hours. The musical performances will combine Chinese and Western elements. Since you a keen classical music lover, I bet the Butterfly Lovers violin concert will be extremely impressive. Please come to my home to pick up the ticket or I can have it delivered to you. I hope you will not miss the concert! My neighbor was the only one taking action.Quickly pulling aside his miracle meal,my neighbor leaped up and guided the elderly man to share the seat.Numb with cold, the old man didn't expected the invitation, moving clumsily.Hardly had he seated himself when my neighbor tenderly put his down jacket over the older man's shoulders, slipping his arms into sleeves. Finally,he said “Can you help me out?”pointing to the meal and placing the steaming cup of soup in the stranger's hands.Seeing this,my head and heart stopped battling and I had my decision. Tears blurred my vision when I went to buy food at the food court. What my neighbour said exactly spoke my mind. With regret,I felt obliged to do the same.Respectfully and cautiously,I approached them with steaming soup and a sandwich.People around cast an approving smile in my direction.“Can you help me out?” I asked.“Why not?” he added jokingly,“But only if you go halfway with me on that sandwich, which is too much for a man of my age.” It wasn't until that day that I truly learned the meaning of sharing.I left the subway station feeling warmer than I had ever thought possible. I'm in trouble. Whatever your taste, there's a food festival to match—no matter how specialized. Meatopia This threeday, Londonbased festival takes place at the end of August and is a meat lover's paradise. In addition to a range of legally sourced meat products, from juicy burgers to tender steaks, attendees can listen to live music, watch butchery demonstrations, and attend informal meatbased workshops. The National Honey Show If you have a sweet tooth, then it could be that the National Honey Show, which started in 1921 and is the largest event of its kind, is the place for you to be. This threeday event attracts many local entries who showcase their sweet golden honey, some of which is sold globally. The Orange Sauce Festival Have you heard about a festival that is devoted only to orange sauce? Held in Cumbria, this sweet, fragrant festival has been running for 3 years. What attracts people most is a competition to find the best homemade orange sauce. There are thousands of participants from over 30 different countries across the globe, bringing their local snacks to share here. The Ginger(姜)and Spice Festival If you'd prefer something with a little more kick to it, then you could attend The Ginger and Spice Festival held in Market Drayton. Unlike other food festivals, it celebrates its town's historic connection to Robert Clive, who returned from India with ginger. Because of this, they specialize in baking gingerbread, but also sell a range of traditional spices from mild to hot. 21.What do Meatopia and The National Honey Show have in common? A.They are of the same duration. B.Both of them hold workshops. C.Both of them originated from London. D.Both of them have a long history. 22.If you are interested in foreign food, which festival do you like best? A.The Meatopia. B.The Ginger and Spice Festival. C.The National Honey Show. D.The Orange Sauce Festival. 23.What is special about The Ginger and Spice Festival? A.It has something to do with a historic figure. B.The ginger used in the festival is from India. C.It sells spicy food. D.The food is cooked by Robert Clive. B Technology has undoubtedly opened up the world for me. Literally, in the case of my fully accessible home. My windows are automatic, and my front door is automatic too. There are also my wheelchairs. I guess that any wheelchair user will say the best invention is that of the wheel. It's a tool bringing independence and comfort. Last week, I took a welldeserved break from work and went on a staycation in my local area. On the first day, I was heading further out in my power wheelchair than I've ever been on my own. This chair is almost like a Transformer. I like the speed, the phone charger and the flexible feature. It's a wonderful creation. However, while there are many benefits that come with technology, I still live in a disabling world. For example, out in my power wheelchair that day, feeling free and easy, I headed straight to the shop not far away. I deserve to feel heard and included when innovation is concerned. But when I got there, I was confronted by selfservice checkouts. While they are designed for easy and quick service, for me and many other disabled people, the lack of facetoface services can put us at a disadvantage. Not only are the checkouts far too high, they are awkwardly designed so that you cannot approach them with a wheelchair. So, I waited for someone to assist me. In just a matter of a few hours, I had seen how technology and accessibility advancements have empowered me then, in the next breath, disabled me. I still live in a disabling world with substandard accessibility. Therefore, disabled people by and large are more likely to rely on mechanical and technological devices such as lifts and communication aids. Unfortunately, these things are sometimes abused and mistreated, making the person relying on them dependent on others. 24.How does the author think of technology according to paragraphs 1 and 2? A.He casts some doubts on it. B.He shows much gratitude for it. C.He expresses curiosity about it. D.He feels really carefree with it. 25.What happened to the author in the shop? A.He came across many other disabled people by chance. B.He waited quite a few hours in order to check out. C.He was unable to seek assistance from others. D.He couldn't use the selfservice checkout by himself. 26.Why does the author say he still lives in a disabling world? A.He thinks it is not easy to make his voice heard. B.Some shops are inaccessible to wheelchair users. C.He finds it really hard to fit in with nondisabled people. D.Things related to technology are sometimes out of service. 27.What would be the best title for the text? A.My different views concerning disability B.How I make full advantage of technology C.My lovehate relationship with technology D.How I live independently as a disabled man C Using needles to deliver drugs has been common for more than a century. The past hundred years have seen all manner of medical advances, from lifesaving medicine and Xrays to mRNA vaccines(疫苗) and special cancer treatments. Yet the needle has stayed mostly unchanged. Although now available in a variety of different sizes, it remains a hollow (having a hole or empty space inside), pointy tube. With luck, that may soon change. As Yichi Ma, a scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, and his colleagues outlined in a review paper, researchers around the world are looking for ways to ease the passage of needles into the skin. Many have been inspired by nature. The team got their idea from mosquitoes, which manage to get their blood meals without causing great pain to people. One reason is that the insects use painkilling chemicals when they first puncture(刺穿)the skin. But there is another reason. The point of a mosquito's sawlike proboscis(锯齿状的喙)is softer at its tip. The insect makes the skin of its target tight before biting, and shakes its proboscis as it pushes the proboscis in. All of this helps reduce the force needed to puncture the skin. One paper, published in 2020, found that a mosquitoinspired needle required 27% less puncturing force than an ordinary one. And less force means less pain. Mosquitoinspired needles might also be useful for delicate procedures such as biopsies (the examination of tissue taken from a living body).A paper from the University of Michigan, also published in 2020, found that scientists could improve biopsies of tissue in some body organs. The lower force led to less movement of the organ itself, ensuring that the needles were guided accurately to the area that needed sampling. For now, such devices remain limited to labs. But there is a big market for better needles. According to WHO, around16_billion were given in 2018.With one person in four saying they suffer from a fear of needles, it means the savings on stickers and sweets for the brave souls who roll up their sleeves would be considerable. 28.What can we infer about needles from paragraph 1? A.Their importance has been ignored for long. B.They fall behind other medical innovations. C.Their size remains the same for over a century. D.They have a poor source of supply for decades. 29.How does a mosquitoinspired needle strengthen biopsy procedures according to the test? A.By making the target skin tight. B.By minimizing organ movement during sampling. C.By making the needle tip sharper. D.By lessening patient anxiety during operation. 30.Why did the author mention the figures in the last paragraph? A.To show people's anxiety about injection. B.To highlight the limitations of current needle designs. C.To show the serious problem of too many injections. D.To emphasize the potential demand for improved needles. 31.What does the underlined figure “16 billion” primarily refer to in the last paragraph? A.The number of people with a fear of needles. B.The potential market size for improved needles. C.The number of injections administered in 2018. D.The number of needle innovations by WHO in 2018. D In 1999, David Dunning and Justin Kruger did a series of studies evaluating people's competence in certain areas, including grammar, humor and logic. The people in the studies were asked to evaluate their own abilities in each area. Dunning and Kruger found that people who scored low on the tests have the tendency to overestimate their abilities, indicating that people who lack skills tend to lack the ability to realize their shortcomings. This principle has become known as the DunningKruger effect. It occurs because only when people have skills in a given area are they equipped to evaluate their own skills. Admittedly, most people are overconfident in their abilities. They want to believe that they are more capable, knowledgeable and even superior to others, and when someone really wants something to be true, it can be hard for them to admit that it isn't. By the way, the opposite of the DunningKruger effect also happens: capable people have a more accurate view of their own abilities, and sometimes they even underestimate themselves. It's tempting to think of the DunningKruger effect as a problem. People may even laugh at those who think themselves more competent than they truly are, but everyone has areas where they lack competence, and the DunningKruger effect means they may be relatively bad at selfevaluation in those areas. Even if someone is very intelligent in general, there are still things they don't know much about. Expertise in one area cannot always be transferred to other areas. That's why it's important to keep digging for information even when you think you've found answers. It can also be helpful to check your ideas with other people. Receiving negative feedback can hurt, but if you're willing to listen, it can help you grow. Even just keeping in mind that the DunningKruger effect exists can help you stay modest, accept criticism and, thus, keep learning throughout your life. 32.What did Dunning and Kruger find in their research? A.Skilled people are usually more humorous and logical. B.Unskilled people tend to think too much of themselves. C.Selfevaluation makes people more logical in some areas. D.Knowledgeable people sometimes think they are superior to others. 33.What does the author think of the DunningKruger effect? A.Universal. B.Problematic. C.Complicated. D.Controversial. 34.What can we do to avoid the DunningKruger effect according to the text? A.Evaluate yourself on a regular basis. B.Make friends with intelligent individuals. C.Be yourself and ignore negative feedback. D.Remain humble and eager for knowledge. 35.Where is this passage probably from? A.A research paper. B.A biology textbook. C.A psychology journal. D.A scientific report. The Value of Tears Tears can ruin makeup, bring conversation to a stop, and give you a runny nose. Tears leave you embarrassed and without energy. Still, crying is a fact of life, and your tears are very useful. Even when you're not crying, they make a film over the eye's surface.___36___ When tears fall, they reduce stress. But we tend to fight them for all sorts of reasons. “People worry about showing their emotions, afraid that once they lose control they'll never get it back.”___37___ After we cry, the feelings that caused the tears often disappear. Sometimes people become much stressed and can't cry. Whatever emotion they are feeling—shock, anger, fear, or sadness—is being held back. But everyone has the need to cry. Psychologist Vera Diamond explains that her treatment often consists of giving people permission to cry.___38___Patients practice crying just to become used to expressing emotions. She suggests safe, private places to cry, like under the bedcovers or in the car. Crying is a way of reducing tension, but people don't like it when others cry because it makes them tense.___39___ And they'll do just about anything to make you stop. In certain situations, such as at work, tears are not appropriate. It's good not to cry during a tense business discussion.___40___You should also act out the whole situation again and be as noisy and angry as you like. It will help you feel better. “And,” she adds, “Once your tears have taken away the stress, you can begin to think calmly of ways to deal with the problem.” Tears are a sign of our ability to feel. If you find yourself near someone crying, deal with it. And never be afraid to cry yourself. A.They too may be holding back a need to cry. B.They cry for different reasons. C.She gives crying exercises. D.It contains a chemical against infection. E.The fact is that no emotion lasts forever. F.It forms in response to the stress on the surface of the eye. The temperature was below zero so I ducked into the subway station, hoping to get warm. Warmth came to my body as I settled onto a bench with a cup of hot coffee. Now I was ready to relax and do some serious peoplewatching. I noticed a homeless man seated nearby. The pleasant smell of delicious food from the subway food court (餐饮区) was tempting me to consider an early dinner. From the longing look in my neighbor's eyes it was obvious that he, too, noticed the good smell. I wondered how long it had been since he had eaten anything, expecting he would approach me for a handout(施舍). But he never did. My head and heart were battling it out: the former telling me to mind my own business, and the latter urging me to make an immediate trip to the food court for him. While this inner debate was fierce, a welldressed young couple suddenly approached. “Excuse me, sir,” began the husband. “We just finished eating and our appetite wasn't as big as we thought. We hate to waste food. Can you help us out and put this to good use?” The kind stranger handed a large container with food. “Thank you.”came the grateful reply.Feeling good about what I had seen, but disappointed by my own lack of action, I observed my neighbor's response to his sudden good fortune. He lifted the soup, cupping his hands around the steaming bowl. It was obvious that he was going to enjoy this miracle meal. He opened his mouth and suddenly, he stopped. The reason for this unexpected behavior soon became clear. Entering the hall was a new arrival, in his seventies, hatless and gloveless. His lightweight jacket was a poor protection against cold. His face and hands were red and damaged. People around focused on him with pity and whispered at this sad sight. My neighbor was the only one taking action._______________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Tears blurred my vision when I went to buy food at the food court.__________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
